PHILADELPHIA -- It took Philadelphia Flyers rookie forward Zac Rinaldo all of two regular-season games against the New York Rangers to learn why there is so much hatred in this Philadelphia-New York rivalry that will take center stage Monday in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park (3 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS).
"(Brandon) Dubinsky," Rinaldo told NHL.com when asked to give a reason why he dislikes the Rangers so much. "He told me I was a liability on the ice and he told me I was a bad hockey player. Then the next game I asked him to fight, and he doesn't back it up. That's a coward move. You don't tell someone he's a bad hockey player and then not back anything up. That's a coward."
Given a chance to respond, Dubinsky, the Rangers' fifth-year forward who has played 28 games against the Flyers, at first said he wasn't going to, but then his answer bled into a jab at Rinaldo.

I watched the alumni game and really enjoyed it. But there was a lot more good will in that game than there will be in today’s game. It’s also much cooler today, temps in the low 40’s, so the ice should be no problem.
As a fan of the NJ Devils I don't really have a rooting interest here, but I despise the Rangers more than the Flyers so I hope the home team is victorious!

I missed that but I caught the girl (along with Kate Smith via video) singing God Bless America. Are the Spinners still alive. Maybe they should have been invited to sing ther anthem.

BTTT for a hockey thread. I thought it was the best Winter Classic game played so far (except for the first one). Love Mike Rupp!
The local sports radio has been proclaiming the event a ratings bust so I decided to check the numbers. Turns out they’re very close to previous ratings which means the event held it’s own even against the Outback and Rose bowls (both had big ratings losses). That’s really good for a hockey game.

‘Torts’ was just saying what a lot of hockey fans were wondering (me included).
Those were inexcusable calls (and non calls) late in the game.
Glad I don’t get hit for $30K for saying it though!
