Word For The Day, Monday, 1/2/12

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

numinous; adj.

1. of, pertaining to, or like a numen; spiritual or supernatural. 2. surpassing comprehension or understanding; mysterious: that element in artistic expression that remains numinous. 3. arousing one's elevated feelings of duty, honor, loyalty, etc.: a benevolent and numinous paternity.

Etymology: "divine, spiritual," 1647, from L. numen (gen. numinis) "divine will," properly "divine approval expressed by nodding the head," from nuere "to nod" (cf. Gk. neuein "to nod").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Indeed. Just back from coffee with the st James moms. Jance reports her adult children are all enthused about the Hunger Games book (shes awaiting her turn) among them an engineer and a nurse. Male and female. All types enjoy escapism. Paula just finished the series this AM. Harry Potter was also billed as middle school fare.

When Jax started the Fire it showed “Jacqui’s 4th Kindle.” They replaced the first one twice over the course of the year, but she never lost a thing. I still haven’t figured out all the ins and outs of the old one, I doubt I will attempt to do anything with the new one.

I used to get sick if I tried to read in the car - but was able to on the trip back from visiting family for Christmas. Of course we were on I45 which is straight as a board so maybe that helped.

Oh my gosh! I love the girl they picked for Katniss! Peeta isn’t cute enough.... lol but he will probably grow on me when I see the whole thing. It sure looks like what I envisioned, how about you?

Back from an estimate the customer scheduled two weeks ago, and barely remembered doing so-oh, well...

The candidates, for Iowa are sll
Wanting their speeches numinous-
A little verbal hocus pocus
To make them appear luminous

A platitude here, a rhyme there
Then a quote from a founding father-
And if no one is impressed yet
Why do they even bother?

Could they get down to business-
Just stop feeding the beastly press?
Stop fighting it out and just agree
That the whole country is just a mess

The benefits of a moral life are too numinous to count.

Thanks. This is a Kindle Fire and it didn’t have a paper manual either. Sometimes it maddeningly doesn’t respond when I tap a link, so I tapped and tapped and then... it stutter posted. I apologize for monopolizing the thread for a while.

I have a Nook also... the cheap one, and I love it. It lets me read books, which is what I wanted. I need to get one of my grandkids to help me with this one, but they all live in the jungles of middle America.... where they are on Facebook :)

Meanwhile I’ll use the computer for FreeRepublic until I get paper trained on the tablet.

And Wes Welker wasn’t picked at all...walk on for Miami if I recall. It wasn’t until he got to Patriots that they realized his potential.
