The animal had been preying on domestic goats, residents and authorities said.
A mountain lion that took a heavy toll on the animals in an Oak Glen petting zoo was killed on Christmas night when it returned to a sheep carcass to feed.
The 7-year-old female lion had been raiding the petting zoo at Rileys at Los Rios Rancho apple orchards. In all, 13 goats and sheep died, said Devon Riley, who owns the business in the mountains east of Yucaipa.
When the goats and sheep started to disappear in late November, California Department of Fish and Game officials investigated and determined it was the work of a cougar. The department issued Rileys a special permit to shoot the lion.
The lion would hop a fence, grab an animal and then stash the carcass in a nearby willow thicket, Riley said. To discourage the predator, the Rileys moved their animals to pens close to their home. But the attacks continued.
She just found the next spot to go to, he said. We saw her only twice, always in the middle of the night.

Oh! The irony!
If you pen them, she will come.
:-)
This sentence made me do a double take.
That’s a bad kitty, very bad kitty.
Couldnt they have just put out some cat food or something?
...also known as "the snack bar" in mountain lion circles.
Are you serious?
Have you ever seen a cougar?
A couple of years ago, I shot one from my front porch. It had been eyeing me and my two Labradors, deciding which of us was going to be dinner. Fortunately, I live in Oregon where you can kill a predator who is stalking you.
I love animals, but this is just too funny; making a fast food joint for kitty kats.
Oak Glenn is a tourist destination in the hills not far from the Rockin’ QS Ranch. It’s Apple Growing, and processing country with the Petting Zoo for children, as well some fine dining places, and lots of Apple products for sale including delicious apple doughnuts.
We enjoy our visits to Oak Glenn, and hope for only the best for all of them up in the foothills of San Bernardino County.
Couldnt they have just put out some cat food or something?
LOL
LOL! Purina Cat Chow would have saved a lot of grief...and sheep. I just hate it when business owners don't have visions for the future.
They did.
"Big Cat" food...
Thanks for the ping, George!
This is what lions do.
The owners of the petting zoo were fortunate that cougar didn’t go “Full Feline” and engage in a killing frenzy.
Just such a killing frenzy occurred at a petting zoo called trail lakes campground, near Naples Florida. Even after I videotaped the “Panther Panderer’s precious panther in the act of attacking the 15th goat, they refused to remove their radio collared cat.
Only after the killing frenzy I predicted came to pass, was the cat removed by trapping.
AgencyPersons do not care about livestock losses (not their financial loss) and the liars at the GangGreen enviro groups who claim they will pay for livestock losses have more reasons to deny payment than Obamoids have ideas for more taxes.
My Modest Proposal is to feed AgencyPersons to marauding predators. In such manner can we have a healthy population of large bodied predators while directly reducing the population of predatory bureaucrats.
We might even consider a Coliseum with cougars v. ‘Crats instead of Lions v. Christians.
Listen to Santayana.
Let history repeat itself.
;-)
They put out cat food, its called goats....:O)
Yes and yes. I was just looking for an alternative to killing the creature.
You see a petting zoo. Kitty sees a buffet.
