12 guage shot gun versus 12 inch hunting knife, eh? I think I would bet on the Mama Grizzly with the 12 gauge.
Good for her! Her husband would be proud.

I love a happy ending [sniffle].
Banglist (((ping))).
Me, too. (sniffle)
What a great tribute to the maternal instinct.
What’s a banglist?
Oklahoma is OK. (Except during Texas/OU weekend)

I’m rather surprised that this made GMA or Yahoo.
I read the article and I had to laugh because the woman grabbed her shotgun, ran to her room, grabbed a pistol, put A BOTTLE IN THE BABY’S MOUTH, and called 911. Multi-tasking Moms are great!
Ping
“knife to a gun fight”...gauge wins.
I read so many stories where the 911 operator tries to talk down the person defending themselves...kudos to this operator for saying “I can’t tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,”
ping
She was on the phone with the dispatcher for ...wait for it.....wait..... 21 minutes.
When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
They didn’t actually condone shooting.
“ ‘I can’t tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,’ the dispatcher told her.” (URL above.)
Salivating predator thought he had chosen his prey wisely. A weak and vulnerable teenaged widow and her baby, all alone in the world. Easy pickings. He chose poorly.
Was he “Justin” the door?
Keyword added to include it in the "banglist" subforum.
Isn't it pathetic that you can get a custom made pizza, delivered to your door faster than the police can get there? And the Delivery folk don't even have sirens or lights on their cars.
I like that it mentions in your article that one of the invaders apparently called 911 for an ambulance because his friend had gotten shot. Duh.

The banglist consists of those with great interest in weaponry; specifically, those that go ‘bang’....
Thank you very much for the follow-up link.
banglist = keyword
add to any stories related to guns, second amendment issues, self-defense, concealed carry, firearms legislation, etc.
It took them 21 minutes to break into a house? They need to find another line of work. One on them, anyway. These guys are more incompetent than the dorks in “Home Alone”.
On the good side, the predator had 21 minutes to bleed out before the ambulance got there with his toe tag. I'm okay with that delay.
What a scumbag, preying on a young widow. I hope he suffered before he died. I hope it hurt.
Thanks. I need more education re: firearms so the keyword will come in handy. I like anything that explodes, too.
If you click on the link, it appears that there is a police identification picture of the deceased scumbag. Probably not a virgin in the crime world at 24yo. I suspect that his demise prevented a great number of future crimes.
“...predator had 21 minutes to bleed out before the ambulance got there....”
Doesn’t it warm the cockles of your heart?
A surgeon offered to remove my cockles, theorizing that I don’t use them and they’ll only give me trouble later anyway, but I refused.
“I read so many stories where the 911 operator tries to talk down the person defending themselves...kudos to this operator for saying I cant tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,”
Agreed, this was pretty gutsy.
The more I read about TX/OK, the more I like the idea of living there.
“The more I read about TX/OK, the more I like the idea of living there.”
AZ has very nice firearms legislation. AZ department of revenue, though, is reprehensible.
thanks for that link to the follow up story. This women recognizes the kind acts of others when so much bad has visited her.
You did good in keeping them from removing your cockles; otherwise, you’d have nothing to be warmed.
In my case, I have to keep them from removing my spleen, otherwise I’d have nothing to vent.
Not only that but she pushed the couch in front of the door and... “for an agonizing 21 minutes, she listened to the men try to break in. “He was from door to door trying to bust in, just going from door to door,” said McKinley. “I waited till he got in the door. They said I couldn’t shoot him until he was inside the house. So I waited until he got in the door and then I shot him.”

Why “can’t” they tell someone any thing?
Is this written down somewhere? Is this a policy, rule, law, suggestion, snide remark, what?
It would be interesting to know just exactly what that might be, verbatim.
It was OK on MSM because the now worm food perp was an evil white guy and his friend. White men are evil according to the MSM so they deserve it.
They won’t show the many more times the protected classes are blasted during a robbery (like at Kroger here in Indianapolis).
You have to admit this poor gal must have been sick with fright. I got goosebumps thinking over, “for an agonizing 21 minutes, she listened to the men try to break in”. That has got to be the longest period of fright she ever experienced.
“Instinct?”
Absolutely! I can’t speak for all babies but when mine were newborns... they could “sense” my emotions. I have the feeling this little one was screaming from all the noises PLUS sensing Mom’s fears. Calming down that baby was definitely a Mother’s instinct.
Blanchard Police Detective Dan Huff said, "We believe the vehicle has evidence of the crime and we believe that it will show that the home invasion may have been premeditated."
Boy. Blanchard police could double-duty as brain surgeons in their off-time.
Detective Huff is up for 'Captain Obvious' awards for 2012.
That link was published Jan. 3, 2012...and yet it noted: While the case moves forward and Dustin Louis Stewart is charged with burglary, detectives are obtaining a search warrant for Martin's car.
This crime is over a week old and they're still in the process of obtaining a search warrant??????
Driftdiver was right:
She was on the phone with the dispatcher for ...wait for it.....wait..... 21 minutes. When seconds count the police are only minutes away. [Driftdiver]
When hours count when it comes to search warrant...the Blanchard police are only weeks away!
She said he was there the Thursday before. I’m wondering what the rest of the story is. Were these guys “business associates” of the husband’s or has connections with her? Why was he there earlier? Apparently they knocked on the door and she id’ed them from the peep hole and then shoved the couch against the door and ran off to arm herself as they tried to find a way in. She was smart enough to wait until they got inside before shooting. In another article she says he was stalking her. From one of the comments, the baby’s name is Justin and the perp’s name is Justin so is that a coincidence? The husband was 58 and died of cancer but this is a teenage wife. Just some things to consider.
This makes me very happy. I was so hoping that on reading this, her local community and neighbors would step forward with assistance for the widow lady and her baby.
I imagine that she was almost at her wits’ end, and any little help will just be a godsend. On top of that, I hope her husband had a lot of life insurance, but money can only go so far. It’s the people that help that really matters.
Amending my comment...crime is 4 days old (not over a week old) & police were still in process of obtaining a search warrant (on intruder’s car).
On the good side, I'll bet it was easy to pull the trigger when they finally broke in.
Once again, it’s important to note that the robber’s accomplice, who turned himself in, will likely be charged with homicide for the death of the robber. Because he turned himself in, however, he will likely not face the death penalty, and might get out of prison still alive, if a lot older.
The crime team of Dustin and Justin.
