Texas teen spared forced abortion – for two weeks

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, January 9, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Texas court has extended a temporary restraining order to prevent a 14-year-old girl from undergoing a forced abortion for at least two more weeks. Another court granted the motion in late December, after the girl’s lawyers say her parents physically assaulted the teenager in an effort to compel her to abort her unborn child.

Her legal counsel sought to have the order extended until the baby’s birth. Instead, on January 4, Judge Missy Medary of the 347th District Court appointed a guardian ad litem, a counselor who will advise the court what he deems to be in the girl’s best interests at a hearing on January 19. The judge will make a final determination at that time.

Stephen Casey, vice president and chief counsel of Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL), and TCDL President Greg Terra are representing the teen.

Casey told LifeSiteNews.com that a forced abortion such as this is “a highly underreported type of situation that pregnancy resource centers experience all the time.”

He and Terra launched their nonprofit shortly after defending a 16-year-old girl, whom Casey says was literally dragged ”across the sidewalk by the belt, leaving her bloody” as she was led to two Austin-area abortion clinics against her will. She won a restraining order from the District Court of Travis County in late 2010.

Since that initial case the two have been contacted by lawyers in Kansas City and Pittsburgh to assist in similar lawsuits.

In another case, eyewitnesses say abortion workers physically prevented a young, black teenager from leaving Affiliated Medical Services, a Milwaukee-area abortion clinic, in November. They estimated the girl was between 11 and 14 years of age.

Casey said pregnancy resource centers regularly tell them, “You were just one abortion appointment too late. The girl didn’t know, and she acquiesced and went through it.”

He predicted the number of cases will surge as women – not just young mothers – learn that they have an alternative. “When you don’t know you have any rights, you just acquiesce and give up without a fight,” he said.

Contrary to media portrayals, retraining orders do not bar all contact between parties in a case such as this; they only prevent parents from forcing their daughters to discuss abortion with them. “We don’t want to destroy families,” Casey said. “We want to protect the rights of these mothers to carry their children to terms. Roe works both ways.”

However, it is not clear the courts will always side with the mother. The Population Research Institute cited a January 2004 court ruling, Jane Roe II vs. Aware Women Center for Choice, Inc., as proof that some judges will allow a forced abortion to continue, if they believe it is necessary to “protect the health of the mother.”

TCDL provides its legal services pro bono throughout the state of Texas. Casey said those outside the state should contact the Alliance Defense Fund.

The firm has been asked to testify about pro-life legislation, defend medical professionals’ conscience rights, and represent pregnancy resource centers. Casey told LifeSiteNews.com that he and Terra hope to dedicate themselves to the cause full-time.

“It’s God call on our lives,” he said.

Physically assaulted a pregnant teen? Oh hell no!

Why was she not removed and taken to a foster home? She would have been had this been a conservative family guilty of merely spanking a child!!

Wow. This is an incredible story. I cannot believe parents would be forcing their daughter to endure an abortion. Not only will she have the trauma and heartache of having an abortion, she’ll have the trauma of knowing her parents made her do it.

Pure evil on the part of the parents. I wonder if perhaps the father was abusing her and impregnated her.

I just can’t imagine what kind of ghouls would force their own child to murder their own grandchild?

Imagine killing a child because one does not like who the father is.

In cases of rape and incest - that’s what’s really going on.

What if a child conceived in such circumstances was born and grew to be one year old ?

Would it be palatable for liberals to kill the 1-year-old child ?

That’s where abortion comes in. They want to kill the child in the womb, while they can convince people that it is somehow part of the mother’s body and not a new procreated person.

Remember, from the time the child is a single cell (zygote) - it has it’s own DNA - different from every other cell in the mother’s body. Every cell in the mother’s body has her DNA. Her unborn child - from conception - has their own DNA, different from the mother’s DNA.

From conception on, murder is murder.

I’ll bet somewhere there’s a girl in prison who murdered the parent that forced her to abort her child. I can see it.

“...abortion workers physically prevented a young, black teenager from leaving Affiliated Medical Services...”

KIDNAPPING!!!!

What happened to “It’s MY Body!”????

From where do they derive the authority to kill her baby against her wishes?

Wanna trot out the “She’s a minor” mantra?
How does that work when they deny parental involvement, when it’s the teen wanting the abortion?

Legal continuity is of no importance when we all know KILLING THE BABY is the highest priority.

On Saturday one of my daughters announced she was pregnant with what would be my 7th grandchild.
But a few hours ago she called to say she is bleeding heavily and an ultrasound this morning revealed two sacks.
I am heatbroken; three of my daughters have all suffered miscarriages, and every one is a heartache.
I cannot imagine wanting a grandchild aborted.

What kills me the most is before roe vs wade these same mothers and father drug these girls into a convent to live until the pregnancy was over. Yes I admit they were ashamed back then but this? Could it be the convents packed up too early? Maybe if we still had them the parents could drop their daughters off there if they really think the baby is a sigma? It sure would be better than this.

Stories like these remind me of stories in the old tales I read as a child, of evil stepmothers sending their step children into the woods to get eaten by wolves, or to witches' cottages to get cooked and eaten. Pure, unadulterated Evil. I hope this poor girl is given a safe place to live right away. She should be taken from those parents asap. Suppose she was forced into the abortion and then died herself! Happens! This is a vile nightmare.

A court-ordered forced abortion???? When the hell did we start living in China?

Oh how the Lord must weep for things like this. Prayers up for all involved.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. I have been personally involved with trying to prevent this very scenario in my own city through a mutual friend. A friend of mine was instrumental in helping to save a baby’s life by convincing the father of the pregnant girl not to make her abort.

I know of one case (again, locally) where the girl wanted to have her baby and we thought there would be a positive outcome. Several people were working with the parents. However, that late afternoon, the parents took her to get the abortion. She was in her second trimester-—around 20+ weeks (we know that they will abort up to 24 weeks legally here but know realistically that it goes beyond 24).

On Facebook, there have been several pleas for help from people trying to help girls avoid forced abortions from their parents and in many cases, lawyers (through the Alliance Defence Fund) were able to help the girls keep their babies. These are the fortunate ones of course, but there are so many cases that fly under the radar! Does anyone remember the case of the girl getting kidnapped in the northeast several years ago? They tied her up and put her in the trunk if I remember right. Her parents were convicted.

There are letters on this following website that could help situations like these:

http://www.txjf.org/
I have been told that it would be a good idea to have a set of these letters on-hand for pastors and youth pastors/youth group leaders. Cases have come up even in churches.

Most abortions are unwanted and coerced:

Why is none of this considered child abuse? Why aren’t these parents facing jail time for assault?

Because that’s certainly what someone would be charged with if it were someone besides her parents or boyfriend.

The judge will make a final determination at that time.

So a judge feels empowered to tell her that her daughter or son must die???

Most abortions are unwanted and coerced.

Most abortions are not coerced.

While many teens are undoubtedly pressured by parents, adult women are responsible for their own actions, including when those actions include walking into an abortion clinic and signing a legal document to have a pre-born baby killed via abortion.

I wanna know where the femanazis are on this! The judge will decide what she can and can’t do with her “own body”? Yea those b!thes will defend a woman when its for abortion but when a woman wants the pregnancy? It is like they really can’t stand the site of a breeding woman.
