Skip to comments.BCS Championship: Bad weather headed for New Orleans
Posted on 01/09/2012 3:33:21 PM PST by topher
Most of Southern Louisiana is currently covered by rain showers that are headed eastward to New Orleans.
The concern should be that by the end of the game tonight severe weather may be over the Superdome.
With all the probable drinking and celebrating, this may make for a bad combination.
It will not be Chamber of Commerce weather for this event.
This weather was on the Texas border this morning, and has been moving Eastward all day...
Hopefully, the word can be spread to the fans before/during the game so that precautions can be taken.
Drinking and driving is bad enough, but drinking and bad weather as well as driving may make for an even worse combination.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...SOUTH MISSISSIPPI AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS.
.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT A SURFACE LOW OVER THE NORTHWEST GULF OF MEXICO IS EXPECTED TO TRACK NORTHEAST ACROSS SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA LATE TONIGHT. THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE FROM WEST TO EAST MAINLY TONIGHT. A FEW STORMS MAY BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING WIND GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH. THERE IS A CHANCE OF ONE OR TWO STORMS BECOMING SEVERE AFTER MIDNIGHT AS INSTABILITY AND VEERING WINDS WITH HEIGHT INCREASE ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA AND THE RIVER PARISHES. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI TUESDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON. A SURFACE LOW IS EXPECTED TO TRACK NORTHEAST FROM SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA TO WEST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI. THIS LOW WILL DRAG A COLD FRONT ACROSS THE AREA DURING THE DAY TUESDAY. THE AIR MASS WILL BECOME MORE UNSTABLE AND WILL BECOME MORE CONDUCIVE FOR ROTATING STORMS. AS A RESULT...THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES ACROSS THE AREA TUESDAY.
IN ADDITION...HEAVY RAINFALL MAY CAUSE ISOLATED FLOODING ISSUES WITH WIDESPREAD 2 TO 4 INCH AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS BEFORE THE RAIN ENDS TUESDAY EVENING.
SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES MAY BE NEEDED AS STRONG WINDS DEVELOP OVER THE COASTAL WATERS TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND AGAIN THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
THE ACTIVATION OF STORM SPOTTERS...HAM RADIO OPERATORS...AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL IN SUPPORT OF SEVERE WEATHER OPERATIONS...MAY BE NEEDED EARLY TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

Looks like the Tigers are already turning the tide on O-bama.
Sure is going to be a soggy wet ride home for the bama fans and players.
Thank you so much, mommy. I’ll be sure to bring my raincoat.
There is a supposedly 100,000 people in New Orleans not attending the game -- but tailgating all day [and probably until 4 or 5am early Tuesday].
A word to the wise is sufficient.
Those areas of red are definitely of concern bump!
There is a land called “ Iloathefootball” and I am its queen. I detest this mindless fanaticsm. People are being told ‘dont have a life threatening problem’ in downtown N.O. tonite or you might not make it because of traffic! There is no other news, no weather except that which affects football, just ‘borg mind’ robots.
I hope the streets flood-like they always do -then maybe priorities will change.
Thousands of dollars for a SEAT at a GAME, but the area is still begging for sympathy and federal help!
Sick- I just want it all over.
For those who are not aware, New Orleans can be a dangerous place at the time of Mardi Gras (murders, rapes, etc -- just a normal day in the Big Easy).
Hopefully, the nasty stuff may not arrive until 1am or 2am (or later). But it possible for lightning/bad storms by the time of the end of the game...
My, what a nasty person you are.
I pretty much agree with you on football. I am sick to death of it here in Houston! The rain that just left us and is coming your way......... was fabulous! I measured almost 7 inches here in the middle of Houston. Yea rain boo football!
“Thousands of dollars for a SEAT at a GAME, but the area is still begging for sympathy and federal help!”
A major sporting such as this is pumping millions into the local economy.
sniff... I am the college football Queen .
Uhhhh ... isn’t the game inside? Now they had some bad conditions in the Superdome once before, but that was the democrats fault, not Gods.
Oh, good grief. It’s New Orleans - they know about rain.
Oh My, ClearBlue,
As football is a major religion in Lousiana and the “big game” is there tonight.
I’d bet the farm that you, being a little less than a football enthusiast, will be glad when this and the Saints are done?
Yeah, I know how it can B.
Back to the Lifetime Channel for you! I’m sure there’s a good creepy stalker movie on tonight.
So wouldn't a big event like this be good for the economy there??

Forget FEMA - send in Shep Smith and the media Hanky Wringers.
LOL. Why the concern? What happens inside the Superdome, stays in the Superdome. Lighten up and enjoy the game.
Hope the band, cheerleaders and players have a safe trip home and all the fans too.
Goes without saying, just trophyless.
’ Puddy Tats Drown in Red Tide”
“ Louisiana-Under Water Again”
I never thought football could be so much fun!
Trash talking, braggadocious, obnoxious LSU fans are choking on smelly humble pie today. Locally the nasty comments have begun about ‘toothless, red-neck hicks’.
Typical, low-class LSU punk types. Those ‘hicks’ BEAT you, so I guess it doesn’t take much.
Oh- I’m going to ENJOY teasing all those purple and gold types who were in my face this weekend.
MEOW! Guess kitties don’t do well in water! LOL
The LSU nation loves to trash talk but accept our loses like adults.
But as for you, I really hope you get over whatever issues that are challenging you.
Take care of yourself.
