tessera{tes-er-uh}

-n, plural tesserae

1. one of the small pieces used in mosaic work.
2. a small square of bone, wood, or the like, used in ancient times as a token, tally, ticket, etc.

[1640–50; < Latin < Greek (Ionic) tésseres four].

Lol! That’s an assumption. I was using the adjective “dark” to refer to evil, to hidden agendas that do not see the LIGHT of day with the media, etc.
