Colts Fire Coach Jim Caldwell After 3 Seasons

The Indianapolis Colts' sudden crash has cost coach Jim Caldwell his job. The team fired Caldwell on Tuesday, the second major decision in what is expected to be a long offseason shake-up. Team owner Jim Irsay fired team vice chairman Bill Polian and his son, Chris, the team's general manager, the day after the season ended.

Gosh. I can’t imagine why they would want to go and do a thing like that...

This was inevitable. Better they drop the ax sooner than later so he’ll have plenty of time to catch on somewhere else as an assistant coach or defensive coordinator.

Probably a very nice guy and maybe a decent coach, but his facial expression on the sidelines conveyed the strong impression that he had no clue what was going on. Deer in the headlights. That could work with Peyton running things. With the kid from Stanford coming in? Not so much.

The Indianapolis Colts' sudden crash has cost coach Jim Caldwell his job.

As a Steeler fan, I couldn't care one whit about Caldwell but I do think all Irsays are douche bags.

The whole franchise, born from the sneaking out of Baltimore in the dead of night, can die a thousand deaths as far as I am concerned.

I don't like Baltimore, since they were born from the lake scum from sandusky, ohio known as the Jimmy {rape the women} Brown{s}.

The Colt's next step is going to be dumping Peyton Manning and his $28 million bump, shooting the dice, and going with Luck.

Good luck with that move.

Caldwell will land on his feet, Manning will come back and haunt the Colts and the Patriots will kick the hell out of the Ravens this coming weekend.

Falco is a crybaby and a second rate QB, and ray lewis should be doing 30 years to life for murder.

I'm 100% correct on at least 50% of these statements, and you can pick which ones you agree with.

Earlier, I said I raise a glass of Johnny Walker Black to to gov. Walker, and I may have gone one drink too far.

It’s rather silly. If 90% of your offense( Peyton Manning) who makes all of the onfield decisions is out for the season, of course you’re going to lose. So I guess Andrew Luck will have a new coach as well

Compare the hapless Colts to the Patriots when Brady was out. Matt Cassel did a creditable job of filling in and showed that he learned under Brady. Not so with the Colts’ QBs under Manning. So to bring in Andrew Luck with the idea he’d apprentice under Peyton? maybe not.

I’m not a Steelers fan, but I like your post, and your logic is spot-on.

The latest “moves” by Colts management won’t do much for the “win” column, but they will certainly help Irsay’s bottom line. Dump Bill Polian, who was one of the highest-paid execs in pro football; get rid of Caldwell (who was pulling down a nice check as well), and save yourself a huge pile of dough by releasing Peyton Manning before that $28 million payment comes due. Wonder how much of that money will wind up in the owner’s pocket?

I’d love nothing more than to see Peyton come back, sign with another AFC South team, and terrorize the Dolts for the next 4-5 years. Andrew Luck may be the next great QB in the NFL, but he’s going to face a steep learning curve, with a new coach, a team that will almost certainly lose more talent, and an owner who’s going “cheap.”

The Pats were 11-5 the year Brady was out and tied for first place in the AFC East. They only missed the playoffs because Miami and Baltimore had a better conference record by one game.

Point is, the team didn't fall to pieces just because their pretty-boy quarterback got hurt. Under Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots are a solid football team and are contenders no matter who the quarterback is. Remember that Matt Cassel never even started a game in college when he took over at Pats QB that season.

Will be interesting to see where Peyton Manning ends up next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a year or two with another team and then just retire. He'll be turning 36 in just a few more weeks.

Caldwell goofed because he started Curtis Painter and by the time he saw Painter couldn’t win, it was a lost season. Dan Orlovski should have started more games and Caldwell would still be the coach.

Exactly. As a Packers fan it reminded me of the Ray Rhodes experiment in Green Bay after Mike Holmgren left.

Manning will come back and haunt the Colts

if Manning has any brains, and I think he still does, he will retire and live a life of extreme leisure. He has done everything that he could possible do for professional football....he has suffered a neck injury and the next one could paralize him. He has more money than God and he has a wonderful young family....I say get out now, perhaps stay on in an executive position, P.R. maybe, and live happily ever after.

nope, the handwriting was on the wall...I don't agree with any of the three firings but maybe thats why Irsay has millions of dollars and I don't. Scapegoats make you feel better, but seldom solve the problem.

I went to my first Steeler game in 1952 and they were bad. The Steelers went 40 years before they even won a division title.

Old man Rooney is senile and his obummers butt kissing doesn't change my view of the Steelers.

Yeah, I post at FR, and I also listen to Rush, surprised if you do.

I'll root for the AFC team in the Super Bowl but my heart won't be in it.

Honestly, not a thing in the world. I just wanted to get a dig in at the poster, and had extremely limited ammo to work with. So I went the grade school route and mocked his name. I have nothing against NASCAR.

The above sentiments are void if I'm responding to a Jeff Gordon fan....
