January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - When our sweet little neighbor in her brown camp uniform came knocking on our door this year, we had to say no. I told her mother that I didnt want to hurt Katies feelings, but I couldnt support the Girl Scout cookie sale anymore because Id learned too much about the organizers agenda, primarily their support for abortion and partnership with Planned Parenthood.
I worried that my political stand would cause uneasiness between us, but her response put me at ease: Well, she said, they do use unpaid child labor to make their sales, and the troop only gets 10 percent of the revenues anyway.
True. According to the Girl Scouts website, the lions share of the money goes not to the troop but to bureaucrats up the chain of command in multicounty councils. The national office gets a piece of the pie, too, in the form of royalties based on gross annual sales volume - about 200 million boxes per year.
Its a sacrifice, because I love the cookies and the cuties who sell them, but enough is enough.
I remember the Girl Scouts being flaky way back in the early 1970s. When I was a Brownie, I was told to recite some chant and step over a mirror. If I had known the word, I would have called it pagan. Even an unchurched girl of 7 could smell a rat.
Last year, the Girl Scouts decided to admit boys who dress as girls. When asked to admit a cross-dressing 7-year-old boy, a Colorado troop leader demurred, explaining to his mother, with tact and irrefutable logic, that her son couldnt be a Girl Scout because he has boy parts.
The troop leader was chastised by the mom as being insensitive and promptly was overruled by the Girl Scout top brass, who, in a statement said, If a child identifies as a girl and the childs family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout. Perpetuating this cruel charade on the little boy and forcing little girls to participate in it is inclusiveness to the Girl Scouts. To others, its child abuse.
But it shouldnt be surprising: The Girl Scouts have a cross-dresser in the front office.
Ten years ago, Girl Scouts media relations officer Joshua Ackley was frontman for the homopunk band the Dead Betties. In publicity shots, hes dressed in womens clothing, and in music videos, he appears to be naked and feigning masturbation. The video for Hellevator portrays a woman being strangled in an elevator shaft while Mr. Ackley flashes a menacing grin.
Today he issues press releases, posts news and views on the Girl Scouts blog, and tries to mollify moms who are concerned about Girl Scout ties with Planned Parenthood. In fact, it was Mr. Ackley who facilitated the Girl Scouts no adults allowed workshop at the United Nations - the workshop in which the Planned Parenthood sex brochure Healthy, Happy, and Hot was offered, although part of Mr. Ackleys job is to deny it.
It wouldnt be a surprise if someone like Mr. Ackley was behind the Girl Scouts recent scandal: a guidebook that tells girls to check with the leftist, George Soros-funded Media Matters before believing what they read in the news.
As boys send in their orders for Brownie beanies and tights, the Girl Scouts have declared 2012 to be The Year of the Girl, announcing that they will be working to break down societal barriers that prevent girls from leading in their own lives. What barriers? What does leading in their own lives even mean? Forgive me for thinking it has something to do with sex or abortion.
Several years ago. a quarter of the Girl Scout councils nationwide admitted to partnering with Planned Parenthood, the nations abortion giant. When questioned about the affiliation on NBCs Today Show, Girl Scout CEO Kathy Cloninger had no compunction in confirming it.
The Girl Scouts have been pro-choice for years, but now theyve been caught supporting promiscuous sex for girls. The Planned Parenthood sex guide offered at that girls only U.N. meeting offered this advice on Page 11: Some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice. ... If you want to have sex and think you might get drunk or high, plan ahead by bringing condoms and lube or putting them close to where you usually have sex.
Heard enough? Theres a lot more at 100questionsforthegirlscouts.org.
Earlier this month, a young Girl Scout employee, Renise Rodriguez, made the mistake of stopping by the office to do extra work on her own time in a T-shirt bearing the words: Pray to End Abortion. A supervisor ordered her to turn the shirt inside out or leave the office. She left, for good.
So should we all.
No matter how many times this article gets posted, I’m still buying a box of Thin Mints :~ )
I agree. I used to be in girl scouts and sold cookies for a while until my mom pulled me out upon finding out where a lot of the money goes to....
Grrr... already placed an order. I thought the Girl Scouts ended their relationship with Planned Parenthood? I can’t keep up...
Buy some for “Gift of Caring” and the girls will send them to troops serving overseas - the troops love them! The USO at BWI is stacked full of donated cookies given to troops and families passing through.
Oh boy, I guess no more cookies for me.
I probably haven’t bought a box of GS cookies in 30 years. Over priced and the local troop doesn’t get their fair share. Better to just donate the $5 than to buy anything.
You can buy virtually the same cookies in other places for a whole lot less.
You can buy thin mints right now at either Dollar General or Family Dollar stores!
Same cookie, same company makes it which is Keibler, only sold as a store brand and is Cheaper!!
The left hates the boy scouts, yet they FRICKED UP the Girls Scouts. I guess we can see how Boy Scouts will be if the LIBERALS get their hands on it.
The Girl Scouts HAVE NO RELATIONSHIP with Planned Parenthood, anymore than does the World or National Council of Churches, the Catholic Church, Jewish organizations, AT&T or Kraft Foods or Charles Schwab or American Express or Exxon the NEA unions employees that teach your kids, the United Way, or .......pick a company, a church, a union, or any large nonprofit and you can make an eventual connection to PP
Hell boycott them all then
That's what I do. My daughter is a Brownie leader, has been for 8 or so years. She takes her girls on trips, camping and has them work on service projects. I am sure she is not teaching them about sex.
As with many organizations, the top may be rotten but there still can be some good done at the local level. The troops do get money from the cookie sales, just as they always did. And there is good being done at the troop level.
Good to know!
Thanks. Someone suggested Dollar General on a thread yesterday, but I don’t have one of those stores by me. I do have Family Dollar, so I’ll check it out.
There are SO MANY reasons to boycott the GS that I don’t even know where to start.......
Anyone that supports this trash or lets their daughter participate in GS has a lot of explaining to do.
Excellent idea - just donate directly to your local troop. If they are prohibited from accepting money, ask the troop leaders what they need, buy that stuff, and donate the stuff. The troop and the girls are far better off.
This is outright ageism.
I'm a 47 year old man. What if I identify as a 10 year old girl? Shouldn't I be allowed to join the Girl Scouts and sell cookies too?
I have older girls and there are things they could teach me about sex
Girl Scouts is a GIRL LED organizations and when they get older, sometimes THEY want to lead activities involving sensitive subjects and yes, they do their research online and guess what their sources may be?
Parental Approval is always required for us to pursue those subjects as a group
At least at GS meetings and events they are arguing pros and cons on issues and not just hanging at some party or at the mall
I am so proud of my GS troops, they are involved in so many service projects, even the 5 yr olds ... it is our driving energy this year with the 100th anniversary
men over the age of 18 are welcome to join Girl Scouts as adult members
many Dads do, many troops have cookie Dads
If you want to work with the kids as a volunteer however you have to undergo a background check. You will not lead a troop unless you have an unrelated female leader assistant
Hope this answers your concerns about sexism and ageism
