First Lady Celebrates B-Day at Steakhouse Featuring $28 'Obama' Burger--Kobe Beef, Bacon, Cheese

But the Obamas didn't have burgers--they reportedly had steak in the private dining room.

In response to a query from CNSNews.com, the BLT restaurant chain would not provide any details of the Obamas' visit, except to say they were "quite honored to have them as our guests."

But according to one food blog--in a town famous for leaks--the President and Mrs. Obama ordered a 10-ounce American Wagyu steak, which at $81 is the second most expensive item on the menu, just behind the 12-ounce American Wagyu for $92.

Dessert reportedly was a special-order red velvet cake.

The a la carte dinner menu, posted online, shows the Obamas had plenty of food to choose from: The appetizers at BLT Steak range in price from $11 (for a Bibb lettuce salad with mustard dressing) to $34 for a dozen oysters.

Entrees range from $26 for lemon-rosemary chicken to $92 for the 12-ounce Wagyu Ribeye.

Side dishes include an $8 order of French fries or onion rings. The most expensive side dish is $13 for "Hen of the Woods" mushrooms.

One of the best meals I ever ate was at a BLT in Manhattan. Cost me 200$ and was well worth every penney.

Got some Hen of the Woods shrooms in the freezer; no Kobe beef, though. Still, I have some delightfull fawn backstrap with a balsamic lemon marinade. Guess I'll just have to eat this stuff myself because those grifters will never get a pull-up-yer-chair from us.

As much as I dislike Obama and his policies, if we didn’t foot the bill, I’m not sure this is news worthy of criticism.

I’ve had prom dates that were this expensive, and Mother’s Day that make it pale in comparison. Not every day, mind you, or even every year. The Obama’s are Millionaires, there’s probably no food on earth too expensive for their budget.

On the other hand, if we had to pay for her birthday bash, she should have had some oatmeal and a twinkie with a candle jammed in it. Happy Birthday M. Antoinette!

You miss the point. Moochelle is always trying to tell us the serfs what we can and can’t eat, and that we don’t eat healthy foods. They are such hypocrites! They eat at the finest restaurants, take the most expensive vacations, and the zero says he’ll never rest until we all have jobs. Does that mean he won’t rest his jaws or Air Force One?

Just blocks from the WH, at BLT you can choose between an order of perfectly battered onion rings, potato skins or jalapeno mashed potatoes to go along with your American wagyu ribeye. And dipping sauces-- dip $50 tender steak into: Steak sauce- 3 Mustards- Red Wine- Bearnaise- Blue Cheese- Peppercorn- Horseradish- BBQ

BLT offers a hanger steak, filet, bone-in or boneless NY strip, and a bone-in ribeye. They’ve also got a porterhouse for two ($84)......Cooked to perfection (med-rare), nicely charred on the outside, extremely flavorful on the inside with intense marbling action going on. I should also mention that all of their steaks are broiled at 1700 degrees and finished off with a homemade herb butter.

For the high money rollers out there, feel free to choose from a selection of Kobe beef options. This is a type of “super” prime beef (includes the American “Wagyu” brand of beef) which is fed and raised in a way which promotes extreme flavor awesomeness. But it’s expensive. Get ready to drop $92 on the American Wagyu ribeye and an unheard of $24 PER OUNCE for the Australian Kobe strip.

They got fantastic dessert offerings.......peanut butter chocolate mousse with banana ice cream or the warm chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream.

An $11 dollar steak is always going to taste like an $11 steak. Kobe beef is literally something to die for. I’d eat it all the time if I were rich, but I’m not, so it’s special occasions only.

Here in Brisbane, Australia, there's a steakhouse like a MacDonald's. You walk in and go through a queue like at MickiD's and there's a wall menu of about three or four dozen different kinds of steaks and how you want the cooked and dressed up. They're almost the size of the dinner plate it comes on.

Then too, we have a chain called "Lone Star" and it has Texas style steaks. Not unlike the "Outback" in the US that serves up pseudo Australian food.

Last line in the article: “The restaurant’s assistant general manager told the blog Foodorama that Michelle Obama “dines with us quite regularly.”

I’m wondering if said Assistant General Manager loses his or her job after blabbing about Ms. Food Police eating there regularly.

BLT Steak unveiled a brand new Burger Board today — which includes the Obama Burger (above) that gave chef Victor Albisu the win in Eater's Obama Burger Challenge back in April. And what a phenomenal burger it was: handchopped grilled Kobe beef with Wisconsin cheese, burnt tomato ketchup, bacon and the fresh ramp mustard that won over judges and burger experts Spike Mendelsohn and Mike Bober.

The burgers will be on offer during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and a rep tells Eater there will be no fewer than five burger options at a time on BLT Steak's Burger Board — though Albisu has created more than a dozen recipes that he'll be unleashing on diners on a rotating basis.

Given the restaurant's proximity to the White House and reputation as a power dining spot, the burgers are a wink at politics — a Spam and pineapple burger called "The Birth Certificate" and a VP burger made with Sloppy Joe sauce. For more burger options, check out the press release below.

Father’s Day of 2007, we were in the lovely town of Kamiah, ID. We stumbled on to “The Hub,” a biker bar. Not being bikers, we felt a bit uncomfortable, but after they got used to our presence, they were rather friendly. They served a Porterhouse steak for $11 that was as big as a toilet seat.

They were joined by ten friends for the 2 1/2 hour dinner party in an intimate private dining room, which ended with a candle-topped Red Velvet birthday cake. Guests included Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and Attorney General Eric Holder and his wife Dr. Sharon Malone. Mrs. Obama is something of a regular at BLT Steak, which features an “Obama Burger” on the lunch menu, and is located just a few blocks from the White House. The First Lady last had dinner there with a girlfriend on January 6th. (Above: The President and Mrs. Obama on Tuesday afternoon at the White House)

“The First Lady dines with us quite regularly,” BLT assistant general manager Matt Wright, who did double duty as a server for the birthday party, told Obama Foodorama.

Steak is an Obama favorite for special occasions: It was served as the entree for every high profile White House dinner in 2011. And steak is what everyone celebrating Mrs. Obama’s birthday ordered, according to Wright. The First Lady was clad in black for her birthday outfit—”with pearls,” said Wright, and the party was all smiles as they arrived for the 7:00 PM dinner.

For dinner, the President and Mrs. Obama both enjoyed American Wagyu Top Cap, which is served in a 10 0z portion ($81). Executive Chef Victor Albisu personally did the cooking, which earned him a hug and warm thanks from the First Lady at the end of the evening. Side dishes were family style for the table, and included French Fries, Mashed Potatoes, Caramelized Brussel Sprouts with Bacon, Creamed Spinach, and Hen of the Woods Mushrooms. Appetizers ordered for the table to share were also steak: The American Wagyu Skirt Steak (10 0z, $55) and 28-Day Dry Aged New York Strip (16 0z, $46). House-made sauces are served with the steaks, and include Horseradish, Peppercorn, 3 Mustards, and “Steak” sauce.

The house signature bread is a huge, fluffy Popover, served piping hot to guests after ordering, accompanied by a salt shaker the size of a pint of milk. The Obama party enjoyed red and white wine with their dinner, Wright said. He was joined by two other managers who performed the duties of servers.

The birthday cake was Red Velvet, which is not on the BLT menu but served because it is “a favorite” of the First Lady’s, Wright said. There was no inscription on top, thanks to a crumb topping, and the cake was accompanied by Cream Cheese Ice Cream. Heavy security presence...including in the kitchen
BLT remained open to diners during the Obama party, but Secret Service were everywhere, including in the kitchen, observing Albisu cooking, Wright said. http://obamafoodorama.blogspot.com/2012/01/president-obama-takes-first-lady-to.html
