Yesterday, one of the most damning statements (as far as Newt's perspective would be) Rush made, as he was attempting on-air to make sense of the blizzard of Newt-hate yesterday from Drudge et al, was his thoughts about a rather nasty article by Elliot Abrams.
The article claimed Newt Gingrich opposed Reagan's foreign policy toward the evil empire.
Rush clearly didn't understand how that was the case, but simply stated Elliot Abrams was beyond reproach.
That the very fact Abrams wrote something, in and of itself, made it true. Today recapping that Rush used the term "coin of the realm", to describe Abrams' credibility.
Well. And interesting thing happened since yesterday, to that coin:

Today Rush read an excerpt from an article written in response to yesterday's claims, by someone named Jeffrey Lord.

Evidently Lord, did not think Abrams' article made sense. Lord had been there, done that in the Reagan administration and thought the claims about Gingrich were exactly wrong. So he did some research.
According to Lord, the congressional documentation he researched yesterday - indicated facts other than those referred to yesterday - which seemed to show that Abrams may have been hoodwinked ... into believing quotes he used yesterday were true, when in fact they seem according to Lord's research to have been taken extensively out of context and manipulated to say the opposite meaning, Gingrich had originally said.
It was devastating.
This poster, will be quite interested to hear what Abrams has to say.
If Abrams was in fact played by the Romney camp, look for a pretty major league blowback on whomever did it.
Waiting optimistically, to see yesterday backfire on the Romney people just like South Carolina.
And on Drudge... Partisan slimeball.
To think I've actually liked, and daily turned to his site for decades welcoming what he had to say.
Can't describe the disappointment.

It’s gonna be ugly and no one can afford to believe just what has been said by the talk show guys or their newsprint counterparts (ie: drudge, etc)...
I am still TICKED over these liars that get dressed up in robes of credibility. I did NOT need to dig up ‘special orders’ to know that Abrams was LYING. YES, if he is the ‘gold’ standard in credibility it is ‘fool’s’ gold.
I cannot wait for Abrams to make a pubic apology to all of US. What a slimy creep.
I havn’t clicked on Drudge again since yesterday morning.
I was far too addicted to give up cold turkey, so I kept my Drudge link in my favorites, but changed the url to Townhall.com.
They’re Romneybots also, but it’s like methadone.
I’m no longer reading Drudge. Which was the real addiction.
I’ll break the methadone problem, later.
I quit smoking, I can certainly stop reading Drudge.
Frankly the only way I’ll go back, is a public apology by Drudge for BETRAYING the trust so many of us bestowed him with.

If Romney had run this aggressively against Ted Kennedy, he would be in the Senate.
Is Rush waking up? Maybe, but too late. Newt has been trashed by almost every outlet one can imagine including the elite GOP. Go Newt! Beat the lies and win.

Yeah, I just heard Limbaugh’s monologue. Participated in a thread yesterday where I got into it with somebody who parroted the idea that this Abrams “revelation” would be “devastating” to Gingrich.
Lo and behold, Limbaugh spends the opening monologue of open-line Friday spinning and covering up for Abrams, talking about Abrams “gold-standard of crdibility”. Earth to Rush - Anrams is a political operative from way back, and the truth is not a factor in whatever he writes or does or says under oath. But this article was so bad, Limbaugh has to say poor Abrams was spoon-fed bad information by some un-named Romney people, thereforeit’s not really Abrams fault. GIVE ME A BREAK!
Especially if Romney wins the election, the betrayal that can be foretold, will pale in comparison to the hollow remorse they will eventually face.
This bunch of LIARS are really making me reconsidering just how well they served US in their perky positions of power.

Plus, Rush is failing to mention that Santorum has canceled all his Florida events to return home.
Yesterday was a day of shame and coming out for conservative pretenders, people who used to be thought of as members of the conservative movement.
Rush, Drudge, Tyrell, and others will never be trusted again by conservatives as they go the way of David Frum and Ann Coulter.
We have learned that beyond the establishment battle lines that we knew of, there was a deeper layer among us, a fire wall, Rush Limbaugh and Drudge had to expose themselves to keep Newt from taking Florida, which probably would have broken the Romney campaign.
Already today, now that the debate is over, the rescuing body blow already delivered, Rush is pretending to be back among us, as though yesterday and the previous weeks and months, and the five years of supporting Romney, never happened.
Rush was far to kind toward Abrams, IMHO.
I think the man is more accurately characterized as a gullible fool.
Rush had the chance to stand up yesterday, but he acted as a disinterested spectator in reciting the attacks.
Rush knew better. He was invited to DC by the incoming freshman Congress in 1994 with the Republican sweep. He knew Newt and should have spoken out more than he did.
Tyrrell, Drudge, Dole, Abrams, et al. are nothing more than turncoat traitors.
Rush Limbaugh and Drudge had to reveal themselves to join yesterday's all-out effort, although he has been promoting Romney for five years now, Rush stripped off the veil yesterday and let it all show, now that the debate is over, Rush already seems to be pulling the veil back down.
Reagan said: "Don't be afraid to see what you see."
We heard, we saw, we know the truth now.
I suspect that Rush has a lot of residual gratitude towards Abrams as he was a lot better with the Iran-Contra committee than most of the rest.
Also, he is giving Abrams a chance to describe what happened, without forcing his to double down. Abrams will have to explain.

I too remember cheering for Abrams on TV when he went up against the committee pinkos.
I subscribe to the rush website and will continue to do so...only because his take is irreplaceable...BUT..I was so angry yesterday I told him off in an email for the first time. He was too passive when we really needed him. I’m confident he got a lot of emails yesterday.
