Umm, had no wife because he was g a y (judging from the photos). Life in NYC can be very, very rough going. No one has any extra space - no one will adopt a pitbull out of the blue. He owned his place, so moving would have been almost impossible.
Giving the dog away is not always an option as no one wants an older dog with issues who has had a life with one person or family. Tough situation. We have an older, sweet Great Pyrenees that likely will be put down sooner than later due to a long series of health issues that we have spent literaly 1000s of dollars on. She is about 9 years old, active, loving but a real imposition in terms of barking, shedding, thyroid issues, allergies and he like. Dogs we have had came to their end when their conditions were much worse, but sometimes an accumulation of circumstances lead to a decision that you don’t want to make and will likely feel very bad it after you do. That is probably what happened here.
There are PLENTY of places he could have gone to get Rocco adopted. We once had to get rid of a dog because of a child’s allergy, and within a day found a place that takes dogs and never puts them down, even if they don’t find an adoptive home.
A good looking orphan boy would be a natural target for the homosexual predators and the source of life long depression.
G a y kills.
Lady, I have no idea what you’re talking about and neither do you!
I have cried over many a dog, and the pain seems so unbearable the first few days. But life goes on, and you adapt to life without your pet. Sometimes you get a new one, and it fills the void. But I also have a sister who lost two children, both at the age of 10, who succumbed to a rare fatal disease. I’m pretty sure she felt as low as a human being can feel, but despite her grief, she has managed to keep living her life. But she is a strong Catholic and is waiting for the day when she will be reunited with her two children in heaven.
Hate to tell you this, but the shelters and rescues are full. With the economy being the way it is, with people losing their houses or getting kicked out of their rental housing, their pets are crowding the shelters. Many shelters and rescues will not take a pit or pitbull cross because they can’t place them, so the dog is just euthanized.
People on this thread are saying the guy should have gotten psychiatric help. OF COURSE he should have gotten psychiatric help. He was a very damaged person and he seems to have been pretty much alone in the world, except for the dog. Sometimes people who are emotionally damaged alienate others, which deepens the mental pain. And sometimes the people who need psychiatric help the most just can’t make themselves get it BECAUSE they’re damaged.
Poor man, poor dog. I hope my priest is wrong and they’re together on the other side of the Bridge.
Hear here! I lost my little furry freind, Goosecat only a few days ago. He was over sixteen years old. If the city told me I had to do away with him to live here I would be moving my things from the town before nightfall. Lord I miss my little friend.
To me it's living in the twilight zone; but then again, who am I to judge.
In New York?
Thanks to rent controls, nobody ever moves.
Just occurred to me that for the money they pay in NY for a condo, they could have a McMansion here in New Jersey. Of course, it is Jersey...
Further on in the article, it indicates that a vet believed that the dog was becoming more aggressive. Maybe he had been abusing the dog and felt guilty about that? We'll never know.
Yes he could, but I don’t know how long it would take to get to Broadway from Jersey.
There is no way I’d ride the subway after 6.
Some of us are too badly marred to be effective husbands, even if the man wasn’t gay.
As a conservative, it seems there would be many other aspects of this sad story worthy of your note and condemnation.
A damaged, solitary person found love through a dog and was driven over the edge by asinine busybodies.
Does this not disturb you in the least? It should, otherwise you come across as rather damaged, yourself.
You gonna get flames.
“Anyone who has pets can identify with this story.”
I must be honest with you, I could put down my pet without much of a problem. It’s not like it would fill me with glee, but, I see animals as animals, not soul mates.
I think if you consider an animal a soul mate you are projecting too much. It is inappropriate for people and to me is indicative of a problem.
