Very sad.
Anyone who has pets can identify with this story.
If anyone had forced me to take my dog’s life, I would have done the same as this gentleman did.
Sometimes a dog isn’t just a dog or just a pet.
A dog is what keeps us hanging onto this life, minute by minute.
RIP Mr Santino and Rocco!
That is a horribly sad story. I do indeed identify. I hope the people who live in his building feel like the selfish pieces of crap they are.... but creatures that low on the totem pole rarely understand much of anything.
There are PLENTY of places he could have gone to get Rocco adopted. We once had to get rid of a dog because of a child’s allergy, and within a day found a place that takes dogs and never puts them down, even if they don’t find an adoptive home.

I must be honest with you, I could put down my pet without much of a problem. It’s not like it would fill me with glee, but, I see animals as animals, not soul mates.
I think if you consider an animal a soul mate you are projecting too much. It is inappropriate for people and to me is indicative of a problem.
Sounds like he was a mental case. I have lost many beloved pets never considered killing myself.
Count me out. If my dog goes through the ice, he's on his own. I'll jump in for my kids, though. But even when I was single, and had a dog, he'd be on his own.
