Didnt score tickets to Bruce Springsteens upcoming Wrecking Ball tour when they went on sale yesterday? You werent alone. Thousands of Boss fans logging onto Ticketmasters website were met with frozen computer screens Friday (Jan. 27) when attempting to purchase tickets a glitch Ticketmaster has blamed on ticket scalpers using high-tech computer programs that generated traffic that was exponentially larger than normal.
Big acts mean big fan interest. Unfortunately this also means that scalpers are out in full force, Ticketmaster said in a statement. Scalpers were using sophisticated computer programs to assault our systems and secure tickets with the sole intention of selling them in the resale market.
Further evidence of the scalper scam comes from the fact that plenty of choice seats were immediately available through Stubhub and other secondary ticketing sites. Stubhub prices for his April 9 gig at New Yorks Madison Square Garden currently start at $143 for nosebleed balcony seats and top out at $8,719 for prime spots on the first level a bit more expensive than the $98 face value they originally went for.
It was a similar situation that inspired U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) to introduce the so-called BOSS Act two years ago, and yesterday he renewed his call for the bill. The BOSS Act would aim to create transparency in the way Ticketmaster and other agencies sold tickets in attempt to avoid similar ordeals in the future.
I would think Comrade Springsteen would placate the masses with tickets that all could afford.......LOL.
One of the biggest hypocrites going....
Screw ‘im. Never liked his music that much, and his Jersey attitude even less
Bruce should sell all the tickets at the door the day of the concert.
Profits for me, but not for thee.
wheres the LIKE button?
The Bruce and The Donald, are they related?
...or better yet perform for free. He’s made enough money by now. Charging at this point is just greed.
There was probably a presale too, where the good seats were sold.
Rock star Bruce Springsteen endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president Wednesday, saying he speaks to the America Ive envisioned in my music for the past 35 years.
He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next president, the letter said.
The classic example of overhype. Couldn’t sing, couldn’t play, liberal music press loved him to death . . . about the best thing about him is that when his fans yell his name at concerts, it sounds like they’re booing him.
I’ve gone to two Bruce concerts. The first was pretty good. The second had no floor seating...just standing room tickets. The floor was PACKED! Good thing I was broke and had to buy upper level seats.
New concert? Clarence died. Why bother?
I know I will upset NJ FReepers here by saying this, but Springsteen blows. Other than 10th Avenue Freeze Out, his music sucks.
I saw Bruce before he became ‘The’. Solo act. Very good and promising.
I paid $4.50 to see The Beatles live in 1966, but I sure wouldn't pay over $8,000 to see anyone, I don't care if was the queen of Russia.
You saw the Beatles in 1966? Wow, I wouldn't have washed my hand since then if I had!
Oh, and by the way, the Russians didn't have a queen, they had a Tsarina!
That said, Springsteen as a person is a sanctimonious a-hole who is a hypocrite of the highest order. He's about as "working class" as Michael Moore and for all his leftist rhetoric, he gouges his fans with some of the highest ticket prices in the music industry.
Still, his body of work stands the test of time. I still get shivers up my spine hearing songs like "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)", "Atlantic City" and "Tunnel of Love". Can't deny his musical talent. But I'll be damned if I ever attend one of his overpriced shows, where between songs, he'll bash the United States, conservatism and capitalism - without which, he'd be a nobody.
I hate the guys politics (like I hate most of them) but he has done some good work. His movie sound tracks are awesome.
You are lucky, wish I could have seen him in his beginnings.
“Scalpers Freeze Out Online Ticket Buyers”
Hey, do you suppose it happened on...10th Avenue?
(yes, I know. That was awful. And not all that funny. But you knew *someone* was going to say it eventually...)
I saw them as well at that crazy price. Well, I may have paid $6. You really couldn’t even hear the music. Large screaming crowd and tiny sound equipment. I think the speakers I have now for my stereo are bigger, lol.
Ticket prices for concerts are for the most part kinda crazy. These aging artists need to keep in mind that their fan base is aging and can’t pay the price...or want to deal with the crowd.
The last concert I went to was the Eagles “Hell Freezes Over Tour”. The ticket price was obscene ($200), but hey it was the last time to hear them. And Hell Keeps Freezing Over with them. I hate to be suckered.
A hack is hacked.
This wouldn’t be a problem if Ticketmaster just charged market prices to begin with. The scalpers are just doing a service that Ticketmaster won’t do - finding the true market price and distributing tickets to those willing to spend the resources on them.
I’ll drink to that.
I wouldn't pay $20 to see Springsteen.
Nils Lofgren is a different matter.
Of course Springsteen stole everything he ever knew form Nils Lofgren.
Ohhhh nooooo! A liberal just got hosed by a bunch of the “99 Percenter” mentality!
You don’t have to. It looks like I am drinking for two tonight.
With Danny and Clarence now dead, what’s the point?
When the change was made uptown
And the big man joined the band
From the coastline to the city
All the little pretties raise their hands
Im gonna sit back right easy and laugh
When scooter and the big man bust this city in half
With a tenth avenue freeze-out, tenth avenue freeze-out
Tenth avenue freeze-out...
Ticketmaster has done this in the past. About 15 years ago, I got through their phone line to buy 4 tickets to see The Stones. The price was $125 each. I figured I would keep two and sell the other two for $250 each. Then Ticketmaster announced a $117 per ticket service fee. I passed.
I've never liked Springsteen. His music was more or less bubble gum in an age when some of the greatest rock and roll bands existed, and from people who actually knew how to play their instruments.
The only thing he has going for him is that he is decent songwriter. Other than that, he can't sing outside of his own genre, he certainly can't play his guitar, and he is absolutely nothing without a band behind him.
Bruce should sell all the tickets at the door the day of the concert.
Concur. That’s the ticket. Sorry.
Rock star Bruce Springsteen endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president
If Obama gets his way. Bruce will be the most useful idiot going.
And over-rated. A couple of good songs and the rest sounds like they were written by a angst-ridden 15 year old boy.
I've long thought Springsteen was the most overrated guy in rock and roll. It's not that he's bad, I'm just at a loss to see how he's so fantastically great. I don't get that at all.
Where can one purchase this urine and vomit bag?
I can see people liking his music, and I don't disagree when they say he's a good songwriter, or at least he used to be, but this notion that he's a genius, or even anything close to it, is the biggest pile of excrement I've ever heard.
Frank Zappa, whether you liked him or not, was probably the closest thing to a true musical genius in that time and for that kind of music.
(I have a small bladder)
Bob Seger was/is the real Bruce Springsteen. Seger sings better, writes better, and his music has more emotional depth. Springsteen is an east coast leftist wo the fawed over.
I totally agree.
Can’t stand the Commie Springsteen and can’t comprehend why people will pay such outrageous sums to see pukes like him.
The ONLY time I’ve enjoyed Springsteen was his performance in the dueling guitars on the Roy Orbison’s “A Black and White Night”, done in the late ‘80s. I watched the video tape of that program so many times! The ladies doing backup were also fantastic, including Bonnie Raitt my favorite (her album/tape “Home Plate” is great).
Not always true. Many time presale seats are inferior to regular sale seats. They get you to pay more for less.
If the idiots attending the concerts would boycott a few that the scalpers bought out, leaving the scalpers in the bag, it might start to solve the problem. The problem isn’t the scalpers, it’s the folks that are willing to be scalped.
Remember this scumbag cheated on his wife and kids also, TWICE. not to mention he is an avowed communist from way back, He should be held up as a poster boy for Not Becoming a Heroin Junkie for the way it has affected his thought process. Everytime you purchase a ticket or song or anything else from the vast majority of the Entertainment industry, you are DIRECTLY SUPPORTING TERRORISTS AND COMMUNISTS WORLDWIDE.
You will recall that "Anonymous" is regularly hacking sites to draw attention to favored issues, and dirsrupting highly-protected sites. Where there is computer security, it can ALWAYS be penetrated when outside input is provided, no matter how "secure" it is supposed to be.
I believe that sentences for those caught disrupting lives of thousands, including ALL FORMS OF VOTE FRAUD, should carry minimum penalties of a Felony Conviction, and MANDATORY prison time.
There's no risk in disruption, even of the Electoral process through Fraud, when sentences are regularly bargained down to a couple thousand dollar fines, and/or, "probation".
Could you provide any links to sources to back that up? I would like to read about the specifics. It would make for an interesting conversation when I see my mother in law because she worships the guy. Thanks.
To do a pun based on a BB King song title, they’re
Paying The Cost To SEE The Boss.
(orig.” Paying the Cost to be the boss”)
What a crock. There are a finite amount of tickets that will all be sold to people who want to hear the guy’s music. For every unhappy who did not get a ticket, there is a happy person who did. There is by definition no net disappointment.
