Word For The Day, Monday, 1/30/12

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

redound; verb [used without object]

1. to have a good or bad effect or result, as to the advantage or disadvantage of a person or thing. 2. to result or accrue, as to a person. 3. to come back or reflect upon a person as to honor or disgrace (usually followed by on or upon ).

Etymology: 1382, "to overflow," from O.Fr. redonder "overflow, abound" (12c.), from L. redundare "to overflow" (see redundant). Meaning "to flow or go back" (to a place or person) is from 1382; hence "to rebound" (c.1500), and "to contribute to" (the credit, honor, etc.), c.1500.

example: Thomas Hobbes Leviathan: "So that the effect which redounds to one man, by another man's defect of right, is but so much diminution of impediments to the use of his own right original."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

LOL No apologies needed. You are just one of millions of people to get confused. Add to that Monominee Falls near Milwaukee and the Menominee Indian Reservation up north that’s just called Menominee. I have a friend from Washington State who still thinks that I moved to Minneapolis and she’s been here to visit!

Remember what the Prince said to Mozart in Amadeus? “Too many notes”. We have too many Ms in the Midwest.

this is interesting. i don't see Santorum having a chance, but everything Michelle says here is true. I wonder if she wasn't moved to write this column after appearing on Hannity last week and being challenged by him asking you are bloodying everyone in your columns/blogs, but one of them WILL be the nominee. She pointed out that Hannity himself hasn't endorsed anyone, and while that's true, he also isn't bloodying anyone. She has been. I think this lays it out pretty clearly. i was gratified to see her acknowledge that people she likes and respects are for Romney.

to this day I cringe when I see John Bolton on my tv........when he endorsed Romney I was in shock. I muted my tv and read some of whatever book I was reading. Even today when he appeared on my tv I turned away.

Michelle is very logical and methodical in her assessment....just like the day I stood next to her at CPAC, I stand with her. If Santorum is still standing at the end, I will be pleased.

I have ZERO problem with principled conservatives endorsing Romney. They did the calculus and their conclusion is he is the only one who can win. Whether that is true or not is immaterial, i think it’s their right to reach whatever conclusion they have. To me, it’s just ludicrous to ;align someone’s conservative credentials over a difference in opinion. It comes down to pragmatists v. idealogues and i am a pragmatist to my core. I am not supporting Romney, but i will not condemn anyone who does.

Like XS, I am watching this recall and fear the worst - I hate liberals winning anything because they usually cheat. I want to thank you and your husband for all you are doing - and for the updates as well - As you know, all we get from the liberal media is doom and gloom so we wouldn’t even know the effort being put out by you all!

Since Romney is hardly conservative to his core, I find supporting him a sellout. Can’t help it, it’s a core reaction.

I really think there should be a penalty for that! They are lying, signing their name to a lie and causing more work or possibly a line to voter fraud. I had a republican friend (at least she claimed) who voted for bammy because “it was time to elect a black man” who argued with me that filling out 25 or more voter registration cards was not illegal or wrong. She said it was not voter fraud because they hadn’t voted 25 times. Semantics -

The “i’m more conservative than you are” BS i have seen on FR makes me puke. This is war, everyone knows it, and who anyone chooses to lead them, based on their perception of the likelihood of victory is one i refuse to second guess, because the stakes are so high.

have you ever seen Cape Fear? xshub was watching it again last night. It’s one of his fave movies of all time. I’d say they are: It’s a Wonderful Life, Scarface and Cape Fear. I wonder what this says about him! i’d seen it before but had to leave to go up to bed, bc it was bothering me too much.

no one said it was. everyone is entitled to make their picks, for sure. it’s the i’m-more-conservative-than-thou bc i’d never vote for Romney meme that irks me. the point is— conservative minds can differ on strategy in this war.

Watched “Shaun of the Dead” the other night with Sarah. She used the word “zombocalypse”.

Ti, remember our former associate pastor, i'd sent you a few of his homilies in the past? well he's at another Arlington diocese church, and my husband is one of Father De Celles groupies, i swear. I'd sent him the link to the Bishop of Marquette's letter and he found this. I knew FR. De Celles would be fantastic on this issue.

It is 58 and drizzling here-and fog is closing down already, too. I had a sandwich from the local deli and a grapefruit for late lunch-I’m not going to be hungry again today, so it will be a fine evening to feed my pets early and curl up with them in the kitchen in front of the TV, computer or with a book as soon as I go drag in and cut up some wood...

Michelle Antoinette has been shopping
At an exclusive lingerie boutique-
These screw-ups will redound on her
And that is nowhere near unique

She probably does have a hot lover-
And I don’t blame her for that
But even after spending 50 thousand
Her ass is still obviously fat

I think when she leaves next January,
We should sell all of her tacky stuff-
Some Latin dictator’s mistress might
Have the cash and be tasteless enough

I’m in complete agreement with you on the fingers-in-ears thing on the political attacks-it is starting to get too close to mass hysteria for my liking-I’m also keeping my own counsel and not contributing to it-there is too much at stake to be a bombthrower.

Thank you! It is not cool enough for a fire-nearly 60 out and getting warmer as a tropical front approaches with more rain. I’m here in the kitchen alcove with Husky girl on one of her pet beds munching a rawhide rollup chew that smells faintly horrid. Three of the cats are in baskets by the china cabinet and TV, and Titus is in my chair, snoring and dangling his paws over my leg.

I looked at the package that one came from, and it says rawhide rollup treats for dogs-beef and chicken flavored. They are round, dark and light rawhide like pinwheels and about 2 1/2 inches across-Husky girl loves them better than any other treat, and they do not smell like chicken or beef...
