Students at a high school in Boca Raton, Florida, must step over rivers of urine and endure the stench of rancid waste after a plan to bring 'green' waterless urinals into bathrooms backfired. School officials at Spanish River High School thought they had found an environmentally-friendly, cost-saving solution for their bathrooms when they installed Falcon Waterfree urinals in their boys bathrooms.

Pissing away the taxpayers’ money once again.
So, instead of “going green”, the school is “going yellow.”
Wonderful, my son goes there!!
However, unlike so many of the kids I got him trained on the environmental whackos early in life and he now laughs at Al Gore’s name being mentioned! And now he gets to tell the smart-ass teachers “I told you so!”.
They could have done the same thing with a regular urinal and just not flushed it. Pretty much like most public restrooms.
What’s the problem? It’s only taxpayer dollars. It’s the thought that counts. It saves the earth. It’s paid for by a smaller carbon foot print. What other phrases will we hear....
I have a very efficient low flush toilet in my guest john that actually does flush and doesn’t clog. Unfortunately, it gets its efficiency by having a very small water spot (the pool of water in the bottom of the toilet that dilutes urine and covers fecal matter to reduce smell) that’s so small it doesn’t really dilute the urine at all and bubbles like a geyser when I flush the toilet. The upshot of this is I must close the toilet’s lid to avoid being splashed with urine when I flush the toilet and, since it never gets really flushed, it always smells of stale urine.
IOW, after we’ve spent centuries learning to improve our comfort and sanitation, the Watermelons are doing a great job, in under 30 years, of returning us to 17th century sanitation. Of course, they really want to return us to the seventh century, when their great hero Mohamed lived.
It never occurred to them that high school urinals always get cigarette butts thrown in them.
lol. Stupid leftists.
It’s not their money, they don’t care.
The large corporation I used to work for was consumed by the green disease. There were vice presidents, committees, working groups, and a newsletter devoted to recycling and saving paper. They even took away our individual wastebaskets so we would think harder about waste.
There was no thought given to economic efficiency -- recycling was just something we should do (similar to tithing.) When I had the temerity to ask if the company was making money or losing money on this crusade, I was met with blank stares followed by angry recriminations. And this was in a profit-making corporation.
Just imagine what it's like in government.
LOL! You can’t make this stuff up!
Why hasn’t US media run this story ? Could it be because it reflects poorly on the greens.....hhmmmm......
So, what did the guys do when they no longer had urinals that worked (that pipe thing resulted in a shut down).
People seem to have such a difficult time dealing with this failed idea.
It failed !!! It failed !!!.
The federal personal income tax also failed. The pipes are busted out.
Funny, I live an hour north of this High School and I had to hear of this from a U.K paper?
Course if the Palm Beach Post isn’t shieling for libs it just doesn’t get covered.
To replace those stinking cartridges for times a year, I’m certain the district is probably paying janitors close to $100K. I have long thought that all the restrooms in the US Capitol and Congressional offices be replaced with these green technologies especially composting toilets (a new take on the old outhouse). If members of Congress had to put up with the stench and unsanitary conditions they wouldn’t be so quick to mandate that stuff for the rest of us. Ditto for every light bulb in Congressional offices be immediately replaced with a CFL.
Used condoms, whatever the kids have on hand.
All one needs is a used empty coffee can or similar, some stones, and a little water. Place can in convenient place - nail to wall for example - drop in small stones, add enough water to cover the stones by one inch. Done. Just dip left hand into can when finished and wipe, repeat until certain area clean.
When stones covered, just empty out nearest window and refill can.
No need to go back to 7th Century, just go to any Muslim nation today to see this wonderful environmentally green invention in action.
Simple fix. Dont let the kids drink pop and especially those highly caffeinated energy drinks. Then, tell them to hold it until they get home. Or, just go to McDonalds and use their facilities. Simple. KISS.
The rain in Spain means staining from the drain.
'We're really concerned because we don't think it's a sanitary place for our children to be,' Mara Shapiro, president of the school's PTA told the Sun-Sentinel.
If these were a private citizens and common parents, the children would be immediately removed from their "negligent" and "abusive" parents and placed in foster care.
So?....Is this school still open? How long did it remain open once the problem was discovered? Have the teachers and principal be charged with child abuse and neglect for forcing children to endure such unsanitary conditions? ( Just wondering)
Isn't it time that we held teachers and principals to the **SAME** standards that are applied to common parents and citizens regarding the treatment of children in their care? Oh well!....Down on the Animal Farm teachers and principals live in the farmer's house. Parents and citizens get the barn.
The cost of fixing this should come out of the salaries of those who approved it in the first place.
‘The girls had to step over a river of urine. I could smell it as soon as I walked into the hallway.’
I’m missing something here. Can’t they just use a commode and flush it down?
There's a lot of that going on lately.
It's almost as though the continent were crawling with British reporters, while our mediots are busy helping out with the Obama campaign.
It is not at all clear that this school district provided waterless urinals only for the boys.
Public buildings were outfitted with fluorescent lighting systems nearly 70 years ago. The only serious use of incandescent bulbs was in private homes. That’s why replacing 100% of them will not show an appreciable savings in energy ~ it was just hype.
OK, you’ve done it. You’ve made me show my ignorance. What does “TMI” mean?
That, is a good one.
TMI too much information
**Whatever happened to pissant**
Got banned for making an obscene remark about Gov Palin.
Poor pissant. Such sound and fury - signifying nothing.
Copper drain pipes. I guess they could recycle those now.
The urinals actually work. They are used successfully. But apparently not anywhere that uses metal drains — most all drains are PVC now.
The question that will probably end up in court — who is responsible for not realizing the drains were made of copper, the school or the toilet manufacturer.
If the toilet specifications don’t make clear that the drains need to be plastic, that could be a bad thing for the manufacturer.
These toilets are more useful in places where you don’t have readily accessible running water.
BTW, since they still had flush toilets, it is interesting that the water from those toilets wasn’t sufficient to wash down the urine. It could be that in addition to copper pipes, that the piping was not installed correctly and had low spots where fluids could build up.
No one expected the Spanish River Evacuation...
Del Boca Piss-ta.
If you care to get good U.S. news you can get it from Canadian sources too.
As for the U.S. media? uggh.
sorry about the delay TMI= too much information
Ah, but it’s in the details that the problem splashes and vaporizes out.
