Fantastic. Can’t believe the incredible reality and “HD” of the 1st (and other related port) painting. Beautiful.

This is it:

On 1st tries in eBay it seems to be rarer than the others everyone is talking about.

It also seems to have been reprinted c.1998, possibly to capitalize on THAT movie.

Mine is a different book. It is called the "Official Edition" and has a red cover. I don't know if the insides (the text) is the same or not. I saw one on e-bay; I would include the link if I weren't HTML illiterate.

It is interesting to see so much traffic on this thread (paraphrasing a previous comment).

"Would there be any interest in a Titanic ping list? There are a number of highly intelligent posters here on Free Republic interested in all aspects of RMS Titanic: the history, the legends....."

Since I fit right into this category of posters, LOL, I'd be highly interested in being added to such a ping list if one is initiated.

Lucky you...you have a treasure on your shelf.

I imagine it's quite valuable.

But don't give it up if the Pickers come to call, LOL.

Please stop the ongoing, foolish attacks, holding the media to blame for everything. Well gosh,I guess some of the blame should go to the public which accepts the media's lies without question. But which is more evil, the one who lies or the one who believes lies?I'm going to continue to think the liar is the more evil of the two.And more to blame.

The real question is, who is to blame, the crybaby fools who do nothing but complain about it, or those don’t know any better in the first place?

Yes, that's the one.
As an aside, all the survivors' accounts I've read said the band played "Nearer, My God, To Thee" as the ship went under.

A better question might be how does one counter the firm belief many people have in the media ?

I know from experience with co-workers that many simply accept whatever the 6 0’clock newsreader says, and when I have tried to correct the errors with reference to other sources ,been met with derision and scorn. Many will not even consider looking or reading elsewhere for information. So if 51% of the voters base their decisions on bad information I think we are in deep trouble.

Further I don’t think it is whining to relentlessly point out the bias in the media. What other evils would you rather not be mentioned?

Agreed that identifying the bias is only the first step in fighting it;you need to acknowledge there IS an evil AND then take steps to counter it.

With the 100th Anniversary approaching, would there be any interest in a Titanic ping list?

Yes, I'd be interested. Are you running the Titanic ping list? If so, please add me. :-)

My mother and grandparents always told the story of "two Irish relatives" of ours who were in the steerage (lowest class) section of the Titanic, and went down with the ship (two young men). Unfortunately we never learned their names, so I can't prove who they were. Anyway, relatives or not, I've always had an interest in the RMS Titanic.

My husband and I happened to be in Nova Scotia in the summer of 1998 and visited the Fairview Cemetery in Halifax, N.S., the final resting place of many victims of the sinking of the Titanic. One of the graves was marked "J. Dawson". There were mountains of flowers, stuffed animals, movie ticket stubs, etc. on top of this grave, which is actually the grave of Joseph Dawson, an Irishman who worked in the Titanic's boiler room.

Several sobbing teenage girls were standing over the grave, absolutely convinced that the grave belonged to Jack Dawson, the fictitious character in the 1997 movie played by Leonardo DiCaprio. My husband and I couldn't stop laughing - the girls' mother looked pretty sheepish, LOL.

I've added you to the every-growing ping list. There's a lot more interest in RMS Titanic here on FR than I thought there would be. It offers further proof that Conservatives are truly thoughtful students of history and the interests cover a broad range of topics.

That story of the "Jack Dawson" grave goes into the category of myths and legends along with "NOPOPE" and the Mummy of Amen-Ra being aboard.

Absolutely ridiculous.

This poor man is getting flowers, but for the wrong reasons. What a bunch of dolts!

This is mostly a test of the current Titanic Ping List. It also is meant to call your attention to some paintings and images posted today by DeoVindiceSicSemperTyrannis (see post #99).

This list will be low volume and won't be abused by needless pings. At present, unless something really major comes along, I don't foresee the next pinging to be until April when interest heightens and A Night to Remember is next shown on TCM.

That is all...and thanks to all!
