Just another example of “manufactured to be collectible”. True collectibles become so over time, they are not created for the purpose of being collectible. I used to do business with a man who had a room in his house set aside for Barbie dolls. He was convinced that he was going to retire from the profits. Then one day he got very angry when he learned that the “limited editions” were being brought out again. Some things like the commemorative firearms may have some actual appreciation but something like a Beanie Baby has no real value, an actual working firearm with a dedication to Elvis or John Wayne does.

“You mean all my carbon credits are worth NOTHING?”

Oh No! Not so. Al Gore has gotten mega-rich from selling those scraps of paper. And some governments and companies are still buying them with your money. You might get as much as 2 cents on the dollar back if you move quickly.

“It was a FAD—an expensive gimmicky fraud based on a desire for power and money”

The college educated bureaucrat complex (a mixture of business and governmental middle and upper managers) are extremely prone to FADs. There were ‘Pyridine Shifts’, ‘TEAMS’, Synergies, 6-Sigma, Just in time, Doing more with less and of course Outsourcing. All have been failures in one way or another. But the FAD was bought into and the cost is a burdened economy.

Thank you for a clear, concise explanation of ‘collectibles.’
