Oh I love my West Highland Terrorists, too!

So sorry to hear of the loss of your 9 year old. Especially since my special boy, Colonel Boudreau Joe Ryan is 9 years old. He is my joy.

I hope your next little Westie arrives in your life soon.

"I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 150 lb. Lab."

Excellent point and you caught that. Good catch.

The vet told us there has to be a part of a dane in there. The puzzle is then how did it retain the solid black color. Most unusual lab she has ever seen at that weight.

4th quarter coming up.

Outside Madison Square Garden in New York City, where Westminster is being held, there was a demonstration of about 40 people who were the Dogs against Romney! Either one of those or the Occupy Wall Street crowd. They were booed and taken away quickly. Thinking what ever group they hurt their cause.

We have a fuzz ball peke as Best in Show.

Bad call, judge.

The Dobie, Setter or Dalmation. Maybe the Doxie.

But not the fuzz ball. I guess it had the best hair.

Actually, I had two Great Danes. One was 125 lb. and the other was 150 lb. There are some big Labs here in the country, but your guy sounds like a giant! Does he have an especially deep chest and narrow waist, or is he shaped more like a Lab?

I agree, bad call. Shoulda been the Dobie.

But the judge’s outfit looked like it was designed and made by the local high school Home Ec. class.

Color/markings are often completely separate genes, not “blended”.

Either way, Great Danes can be black.

Have never owned a little dog as we’ve always had enough room for the larger breeds. But if I were ever in an apartment or lived in the city I’d reconsider.....Peekapoos are cute. There is a breeder in the area and a few people have them.

We have three...they don’t shed at much as one would believe. However, because it normally gets so hot here in the summer, we give them a “puppy cut” at the beginning of summer. They grow it out completely by winter.

"Great Danes can be black."

I didn't know that. Thanks.

Anyway, it was a good show.
We have one here in Harrisburg/Hershey once a year.
I have not been to one but I see the people in the restaurants and they are very serious.
Cars from all over the country with dogs.

Really? What are your qualifications to make that statement? It sure is not based on any knowledge of the Pekingese breed. I have bred many champion Pekingese. I handle and show them for a living. I have numerous Group 1 wins, Best in Show and numerous Best in Specialy Pekingese wins. That little dog was the 2nd top winning dog in the entire country ALL BREEDS not just his breed. He’s an outstanding representive of his breed. He won 116 Best in Shows this past year. So you think you know more than 116 judges who are trained to recognize quality in dogs as to opposed to you whom I am willing to bet never bred a champion dog of any breed in your life. Because you like a Doberman better than a Pekingese doesn’t mean the judge screw up it simply means you don’t have the knowledge to know the quality of that little Peke. I do and he is outstanding. He deserved that win. Stick to politics. You know nothing of dog shows.

>> What are your qualifications to make that statement?<<

We breed and show and my wife has since the early 70s and was also a judge. We own a son of the Best in Show Lab at WM.

>> whom I am willing to bet never bred a champion dog of any breed in your life.<<

You loose. We have owned many that have won best in show. We have bread and shown 6 different breeds. There was really no need to get all snooty. Really.<

>> You know nothing of dog shows or Pekingese.<<

You sure got snitty quick. Your assumptions indicate a lack of character and your snooty reply indicates a lack of personality. Check your snooty, catty attitude at the door and go suck an egg.

By the way. That Pekingese was about as rough moving as any I’ve seen. The one that won a few years ago was smooth and deserved to win.

1991 was the last time the Honor of Best in Show went to a Pekinese that is very cool.
Or the old way of spelling Pekingese from China.

Since you are involved, I have a question.

As the judge made her rounds with the dogs she took a little extra time feeling the Peke poking and feeling the mid back. Did you see that? Why did the judge spend extra time with it?

The only reason I bring this up is I suspect the judge has already determined the top dos she /he will even consider for a champion.

I loved the show. Appreciate your knowledge of the breed, so I have a question. Would the judge feel any pressure to choose this Pekingese because 116 previous judges had chosen this one before her?

I thought the Peke was beautiful; in fact, I loved all the dogs. Just was wondering how judges make their decisions. Can they block out everything that’s gone on before, and just choose the one they think is Best? Since you are an insider, I thought you could enlighten those of us who need it.

“how the judges make their decisions”

I think the whole thing’s bogus. You can compare vislas to other vislas, or Rotts to Rotts, but there’s no way to judge between other breeds.

On the other hand, comparing Siamese cats now, with the pointy faces, to the Siamese of the past with rounder faces, is purely a matter of style and opinion. Similar situation and also bogus.

My 2 cents

I cannot express how disappointed I am with the results of this show. 1000s of beautiful dogs at Madison Square Garden and that floozie judge chooses something that looks like a disease! I just can’t believe it.

Was there graft going on?

I noticed that the Garden officials dragged somebody out of the grandstand just as they introduced the judge for Best in Show. Does anybody know what that was all about? I was so disgusted with her final decision that I switched channels afterward and do not know if they ever expplained what caused them to drag someone out just as the judge entered.

I think the Irish should have won. I also liked the Dalmation and the rough coated Dachsund. I could have made a case for either of those dogs.

The ugliest dog at the show was the Pekinese. I don’t understand what they have done to that breed in recent years. Pekinese dogs were cute little animals when I was a kid, but this ugly show cut that is popular now makes them look like a disease.

All you had to do is to look at what the judge was wearing to see that she had no taste in clothes; thus, no taste in dogs! 1000s of gorgeous dogs at the Garden, and that ugly Peke was Best in Show? NOT!

I thought it was a great show this year, and the selection of dogs was excellent. (with the exception of the winner of hound group, imho)

It was a great show. So many beautiful dogs....And yes in southern Indiana where a dog is usually a hound, there were many in that class that could easily be justified as a winner.

My older Border Collie helped a local dairy farmer round up some dairy beef that found their way through fences and into the woods last summer. As he said his dogs (hounds) didn't know what a cow was. I simply asked my girl where are the cows, she looked in their general direction. When I told her to go get them, she herded them back to my field. He was very impressed, as was I, she'd not worked any large live stock before. She's a GOOD Girl!True to her breed

We've had more than one "Timmy's in the well" moments with her care of dad. She knows it's her job to look after him.

She sounds like a great dog. : )

Mine are both 15lbs or under. My Pom mix (I think she’s a Papiranian (papillon mix), though there’s been discussion of her being a Pom/Schipperke), is my constant shadow and the barker of the 2. They’re both rescue dogs, adopted at about 5yrs old each, about 8 months apart.
They don’t herd anything, but they keep me busy. lol.
(also have 2 cats)
