Gingrich Goal-$2.00 per gallon gasoline - With rising gasoline price. This will resonate.
February 15, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

For many months now, Newt Gingrich has been preaching "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less", in talking about developing more and more US energy resources especially oil and gas. He is pushing specifics about off-shore, Alaska, Canadian Keystone Pipeline, horizontal shale drilling, etc. With the poor jobs situation and gasoline costs climbing to $4.00 per gallon, Newt has a goal of $2.00 gasoline, which we can achieve with aggressive domestic oil development. Newt is a leader who could make $2.00 gasoline a reality by facilitating domestic supply. Again, Romney and Santorum are vague and timid about this subject.

Toss in abolishing the security theater known as TSA, and I’m there.

This will resonate.

Maybe not so much.

If he had industry backing, a plan to $70 per barrel oil (which is about what it would take) then perhaps.

This resonates like Madona arm waving at halftime.

When Bachmann started tanking, she claimed she would restore $1.80 gasoline.

That claim didn’t help her campaign either.

Such claims are blatant pandering.

$4 per gal. for gas is something even an Obama voter can almost understand.

$2.00 gas is a valid goal no matter who is pushing it.

Why not promote $0.75 a loaf for bread?

$1.25 McDonald's Happy Meal?

$1.50/gallon milk?

$10.00/month basic cable?

A goal is not a promise, that is the difference.

BTW- I get bread for 75cents a loaf :)

While the sentiment is nice, attaching a ‘goal’ figure is pandering in my opinion. Do we stop there? A little higher? How high is high or low is low enough?

It is enough to state that the US will do everything possible to thwart the malicious legal machinations of tree huggers, liberals and socialists while simultaneously providing an unfettered process that allows free markets and companies to develop additional oil sources that will help bring down the cost to the consumer.

The gas prices we are paying are fake speculative proces non based on supply and demand. They should probably be under $2 right now in this market.

The technical ignorance of most candidates is astounding. The Mombasa MF, who could not change a tire on that girlie bike he rides is too typical.

Exec Order #1: End Boutique Blending of Fuels to suit mythical local conditions based entirely upon bogus Left-wingnut "science.":
Exec Order #2: Quadruple the number of refineries and make them close to the oilfields they serve
Exec Order #3: Encourage automakers to build a 2500lb family car that seats 4 and is powered by a small turbo diesel with electronic engine management, with at least a 50mpg goal. Trade airbags for 4-point seatbelts. Trim the length of cars by ditching those massive bumpers.
Exec Order #4: Tax automobiles by displacement; no tax up to 2 liters. In a country with 70-75mph speed limits as the maximum, is there any sane reason why a Toyota Corolla has to be faster off the line than a 1965 Ferrari? No need to sacrifice AC or any creature comforts, just go slower at the top end and make tire shredding acceleration VERY expensive. You want it? Be my guest on your tab.

A 2:76-1 rear end does wonders for wear and for mileage. You want a 4.11-1, you pay for it. In the 60's and 70's the dream was 0-60 in under 12 secs. Just roll back performance expectations to that number. We are forced to buy what are essentially racing cars!

SUV's for example, are massively overpowered and overweight. And since they have no real room inside their boxes, have no real advantage over a station wagon, like those beautiful VWs. Minivans? Sure. Stick a diesel in'em. Let's get some mileage here folks.

Let the Chinese buy from the camel jockeys. A few months of doing business with the CHICOM should make them come back to us with hat in hand.

Traffic: Is there any reason why Americans are considered too stupid to negotiate more traffic circles and roundabouts? We waste millions of gallons at needless red lighted intersections. Get it moving.

Between the US, Mexico, and Canada, we can have our very own OPEC. Motor fuel at $2/gal. Sure, why not. Make it diesel and can the ultra-refining. Makes too much sense.

Oh yeah, close the EPA and shoot every third environmentalist every day for a week.

You had me on-board with EO #s one and two, then you had to go all socialist and try and control what the market can make and what the consumer can buy.

Naah! Go buy any damn thing you want. We all ready pay for registration by weight. How's this for a compromise: Take the environmental regulations off diesel. If they are clean enough nowadays for the EU, they are clean enough for me.

In my warped motorhead world view, diesel is the answer, baby. Along with ending "boutique blends, ethanol subsidies, and definitely shooting every third environmentalist for a week.

Compromise? OK. We'll shoot every 5th environmentalist, but extend it for two weeks. OK?
Sociological-philolopsidigal problem" : When gas was cheap, hoi polloi in their abysmal ignorance ignored thermal efficiency. What we need to rescue this lash-up right now is cheap energy AND efficiency. I.E., The $2-buck-chuck diesel PLUS 50 mpg, just like my VW TDI, which is one sweet machine and my old MB 300TD which has become rather idiosyncratic after 600,000 miles.

One other thing: Hydrocarbon fuels are what we got for the next century at least. It will take at least that long to develop and switch us over to hydrogen or whatever is next ,,, if anything. These "alternatives," are just so much codswallop.

Taking back my compromise offer ... it's off the table. I will shoot every other environmentalist for three weeks.
