Word For The Day, Tuesday, February 21, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pedant [ped-nt]
-n
1. a person who makes an excessive or inappropriate display of learning.
2. a person who overemphasizes rules or minor details.
3. a person who adheres rigidly to book knowledge without regard to common sense.
4. Obsolete a schoolmaster
[158090; < Italian pedante teacher, pedant; apparently akin to pedagogue; see -ant]
Obama acts the scold and the pedant
Condescending, face black, white, and reddened
Though his mouth opens wide
His eyes try to hide
A soul that is hollow and deadened
All is contingent on Romney losing in his home state of Michigan. This leaves Romney practicing funambulism, as he fights a losing battle against Santorum. The GOP will accept Romney with open arms; they will exuviate Santorum without a second thought. A pedantic Gingrich hovers ominously in the shadows.
The zeitgeist of this primary season is sowing discontent among the GOP base, in much the same way theO does. This does not limn a rosy picture. Seems no one is happy.
is, IS a pedant!
Odd... The veep spells rhode island road, and Congressman Framk spells the WFTD pederast

I hear an echo again today.
I went to the movies last night and saw Cage in Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance in 3D. At one point they were narrating that the devil had appeared in human form over the years...and while they were talking the images of evil men appeared, such as Hitler....then there was this goofy image of Al Franken appears. I burst out laughing, but someone a few rows over goes..”what the heck, he’s not evil”.....made me laugh even harder.
Everyone prob saw this in 1994, when it came out, but xshub and i watched Quiz Show on Sat PM and it was really good. i enjoyed it.He typically picks stuff i can’t stand, like Cape Fear. RME
It is extremely rare for us to see any movie when it comes out, just because I cannot justify the cost of not waiting until it goes to video. Quiz Show was a good movie.
i will go if the girls want to see a movie when it comes out. i just never watch the movie channels period. he was surfing around and suggested that and said he thought i’d like it. i wanted to see Anonymous, but i think that may still be pay per view. I had wanted to see that in the theater, but no one would go with me. i can’t recall the last time xshub entered a theater. May have been the original Shrek, or maybe Elf, and he prob slept. he would always fall asleep in the theater when he took the kids.
oh wait, he and i DID go to a movie recently, we saw The Fighter, maybe it was last spring? we both liked that.
It is 67 and partly cloudy-beautiful. I’m home for lunch, woking on a bid-and after I deliver it to the customer and do my song and dance, I’m going to spend part of the afternoon in the woods...
Obama is playing the pedant
Instructing everyone to ignore
Those nuke-seeking Iranians-
But, Jimmy-we’ve been here before
He’s decided to start campaigning-
Oh, what a great a sense of timing
With the whole economy flatlined
While the gas prices are climbing
Thanks a lot, Carter wannabe
And wideload Michelle on vacation-
Best get ready to pack your stuff
And return to your mafia nation
I wait until I get them free from the library. We don’t have any movie cable channels. Too much garbage there that I don’t want my kids or me to be exposed to. I really wish we could pick and choose the channels we do get. I see no need for shopping channels period.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t pay for movies-I only get a temporary subscription to HBO or Showtime for stuff like The Borgias, Tudors, Rome, etc. I haven’t been to a theater in years, either-I usually wait until it is on one of the regular directv channels, like the Star Trek one was.
The premium movie channels are mostly crap for the price, I think-I’d love to be able to choose a cafeteria type plan for TV channels-I think it is a great idea.
