One person is dead and four others were injured after a vehicle crashed into a KFC in Landover, Md., at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Rose Smith said she was standing at the next door Citgo Gas Station, and saw a BMW speeding down Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway.
"When it hit the curb it went airborne. And flipped, flipped, flipped, flipped," said Smith.
It flipped into a sign, a fence, a large donation box and an SUV parked in the restaurant parking lot. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
"This is a pretty brutal scene," said Cpl. Evan Baxter of the Prince George's County Police.
Police said the driver was most likely going more than 100 mph. The crash scene was more than 100 yards long.
Police said on Tuesday morning the deceased was the driver of the vehicle. According to investigators, there was one other passenger in the BMW at the time of the crash.
There is also some structural damage to the restaurant, which is located at 6701 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, at the intersection of Sheriff Road
Thank God the idiot driver was the only one who died.
Ah, well. You win some, you lose some.
What’s the likelihood it was a stolen vehicle?
Enquiring minds an' all dat, dontcha know.
O, the hugh manatee.
That reminds me of an obituary I read many years ago in a Teamster's newsletter I was reading in a doctor's office or an oil change garage waiting room or somewhere.
The obit was for a guy who died when his earthmover overturned and tumbled down a hillside he was working on. There was a flowery tribute to his 20 years as a loyal Teamster and condolences to his wife and children and other such stuff.
Then, at the end of the obit, it said, "damage to the earthmover was estimated at 300,000 dollars".
Gee. I hope they didn't take it out of the guy's life insurance policy.
Guy won't be speeding again.
Was the idiot driver wearing a chicken suit?
This is why I am a Sport Ute Girl
I remember going to Kentucky Fried Chicken back in my Marine Corps days. It was one of the first fast food joints you hit when you left the base and I used to eat that chicken by the bucket. All by myself. Good chicken and that seasoned breading they coated it with sure was good.
I know this is a "politically incorrect" thing to say but I always know I made the wrong turn when I end up on MLK Boulevard. All the inner cities in America tend to have a boulevard named after Martin Luther King and while MLK was a peaceful man in life, there is nothing peaceful at all about being out on one of his boulevards on a hot, muggy night in summertime. It's roll up the windows, lock the doors and pray you don't break down or run out of gas.
The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a 29-year-old female, was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Investigators said that a male passenger in the BMW was not seriously injured. Two other people on the scene were hurt, with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials say a speeding BMW hit a curb at the intersection of Sheriff Road and Martin Luther King Highway Monday night, sending the vehicle flying into the air, flipping repeatedly until it smashed into trees, a car vacuum at an adjacent gas station, and a fence separating the gas station from the restaurant. The vehicle then crashed into a red SUV parked at the KFC. The driver of that car was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

I’m guessing quite a bit over 100 mph, based on the damage.
You don’t often hear of a female driving crazy like that. High on drugs or something, maybe?
A KFC on MLK Blvd? Hmm, the reporter sounds racist to me. He should have referred to it as a fast food restaurant.
(Wiki. on Kennedy Fried Chicken; apparently started by Afghanis who admired JFK)
>>The restaurants are traditionally owned and operated mostly by Afghan Americans but are not formally connected, although their menus and prices are similar. This lack of centralized control has posed huge problems for KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) in New York. Since the 1990s, Kentucky Fried Chicken has tried to enforce trademark rules against the restaurants, which often use the “KFC” abbreviation and have been known to decorate their restaurants in red and white colors, similar to that of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The driver was reportedly heard yelling “Love that chicken from Popeyes” right before impact.
Just read in a post the driver was woman, with male passenger who suffered no major injury (amazing). Makes you wonder if he was the car’s owner, letting a friend drive a car more powerful than she was able to negotiate.
Sounds like OJ's boat scene in Naked Gun. All that's missing is a bear trap.
