Climate scientist admits duping skeptic group to obtain documents ( Plans to use "Discovery" )

Legislation to fight global warming has disappeared from Washington’s policy agenda, but the battle over climate science continues to escalate.

The latest skirmish culminated in the admission Monday night by Peter Gleick, a climate scientist and author, that he assumed a fake identity to obtain documents that would expose the inner workings of a climate skeptic group.

“My judgment was blinded by my frustration with the ongoing efforts — often anonymous, well-funded and coordinated — to attack climate science and scientists and prevent this debate, and by the lack of transparency of the organizations involved,” Gleick wrote in a post on his Huffington Post blog.

Gleick’s admission “is the latest in an escalating spiral of polarizing warfare between self-described ‘Climate Hawks’ and so-called Climate Deniers,” which leaves the majority of scientists and the public “caught in the crossfire,” American University professor Matthew C. Nisbet, who studies the issues, wrote in a blog entry.

“Climate change is trapped in this larger polarization process that’s happening in U.S. politics, and scientists are part of that,” Nisbet said in an interview. “What you’re seeing happening is some scientist activists and some climate leaders are actively mobilizing the scientific community, not just in the context of climate change, but in the context of the election.”

Challenging the link between the burning of fossil fuels and global warming — a connection the vast majority of scientists accept — has become a staple on the Republican presidential campaign trail.

While warmists are well known for their openness to public debate and complete transparency and sharing of all raw data and analysis methods. It looks like the pot calling the Corningware black.

“Dr. Gleick looks forward to using discovery to understand more about the veracity of the documents, lay bare the implications of Heartland’s propaganda plans and, in particular, determine once and for all who is truly behind Heartland and why,” he wrote in an e-mail.

Loom at the weasel threaten honest men, trying to stay away from responsibility for his actions.

There is nothing to “discover”. He did it, and admitted it.

Can you imagine - a judge saying “yes - you are right - this is a forged document, presented by a law breaking theif. By all means - you have reason to pursue discovery of your target’s data”.

What a wacko. By this system - I could declare “Obama wants HHS to kill us all” - on HHS letterhead. Then - if tried - I would claim I could “investigate” every memo they had under “discovery”.

So - fine - let the judge say “discovery is open”. I’ll write the memos. The only question is = HHS or Energy or EPA first?

It is all about the global warming hoax promoters making money.
They make money when they get grants to study the hoax and only continue to get money when the findings come out promoting the hoax.
They make money when they make products that need taxpayer money to make them viable.
They make money when they write books, make movies or give speeches promoting the hoax.
They get money to get elected and then make money in office because they promote the hoax.

I love how the MSM always refers to the AGW alarmists as “scientists” and always refers to those who doubt AGW as “skeptics” or “deniers.”

As if there are no scientists who disagree with AGW.

Haven’t you noticed? Every Republican “gets himself caught in corners all the time.” It didn’t start with Santorum, and it didn’t even start with Sarah Palin. “Objective” journalists are interested in promoting criticism at the expense of performance. Accordingly journalists tag anyone who holds that
"It is not the critic who counts . . . the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena . . . who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds . .
with the negative label, “conservative.” Journalists give positive labels such as “moderate,” “liberal,” or “progressive” to those who go along and get along with the journalists’ elevation of criticism over performance.

The man’s real problem is that he didn’t get what he hoped he would get and faked a memo to include the stuff he just knew had to be there. That is the kindest interpretation. More likely he did not expect that he would get any sort of smoking gun so he invented one. He needed the material he got by hook in order to do the fake memo with believable references.

I think the reality side of this argument would benefit from any Discovery process. The downside of it is that it gives the green/AGW thugs the names of a bunch of people and other information about them like addresses and schedules, etc.
