Mitt Romneys sharpest jab didnt come from one of his Republican challengers Wednesday night.
It came from a former Seinfeld character.

After receiving applause saying, I want to restore Americas promise, Romney stopped, nodded and said, As George Costanza would say, when theyre applauding stop.
The line was met with appreciative laughter from the CNN debates moderator.
It wasn't greeted as warmly by Jason Alexander, who tweeted early Thursday that he was Thrilled Gov. Romney enjoys my old character. I enjoyed the character he used 2 b 2. If hed embrace that again, hed b a great candidate.
The dig, which referenced what many people view as Romneys shift to the right on the campaign trail, was an instant hit among many of Alexanders followers.
He later retweeted, a followers message: @IJasonAlexander would you say that nominee Romney and Independent Romneys worlds collided and Nominee Romney killed Independent Romney?
Finally, apparently being bitten by the political bug, Alexander announced his campaign for presidency as Costanza of course.
Costanza 4 Prez: festivus pole on White House lawn, he tweeted.
And of course the important part: Marisa Tomei potential First Lady.
Can’t stand ya.
Marisa Tomei potential First Lady.
Only in your dreams, Jason.
“It was the Moops!!”
Back in the ‘80s, I once went to a theatre panel in NYC that featured Alexander. Reagan was in town and tied up traffic and Alexander went on a rant about him. I still remember this after all these years (it was waaaaaaaaay before Seinfeld!)
“After receiving applause saying, I want to restore Americas promise, Romney stopped, nodded and said, As George Costanza would say, when theyre applauding stop. “
OK....I may be the only person in America who never watched an episode of Seinfeld, so I don’t get it.” What part of the above is supposed to be what George Costanza would say?
I want to restore Americas promise” or “...when theyre applauding stop...” ?
I never watched Seinfeld, either; so why are you asking me?
You distracted me with talk of Marisa Tomei !
I understand. Jason Alexander finds her distracting as well.
Huge fan of Seinfeld - it was intended to insult American idiosyncrasies & way of life - but it backfired. People understood how misguided the characters were and enjoyed not being them. Same with All in The Family...Archie Bunker was supposed to be a hateful, bigoted redneck - but most of the viewing audience loved and agreed with him. Carroll O’Connor was saddened;)
I don’t remember George Costanza making either one of those comments.
There was one episode where Jerry told George that he always likes to end his standup routines on a big laugh and leave the audience wanting more.
George started to apply this to business meetings. Before that, he would make one insightful or witty comment, but then ruin it by following it up with something stupid. Following Jerry’s advice, he started walking out of meetings after making a one good comment, and for a while, his standing in the office improved.
I wonder, if we all applaud loudly enough will Bishop Mitt shut up for good and go away?
BTW, while I despise Alexander’s politics, he makes a good point about Romney. He should be running as the “moderate Democrat” alternative to Hussein, not as a Republican, much less a “conservative” one.
Hey milt, Cantstanja can’t stand ‘ya!
“Moderate Democrat”. Do you know that’s what Bret Baier calls himself?
he wants Romney to be the old Lefty Mass-of-2-$h!t$ governor and not this new bogus conservative avatar he is trying to construct for himself to get through the election....
