I was at an auto parts store a while back with a cashier assisting a poor English speaking Mexican. She asked a couple of Hmong who were in line if they spoke Spanish and they became indignant and told here they were Asian.

So, Asians aren't able to have Spanish as an auxiliary language? Especially those who live in a heavily Spanish speaking area?

Not excusing the Mexican for not speaking English in the U.S., which is an egregious problem that two or three generations of "bilingual education" has only exacerbated, rather than solved.

Apart from the fact that the actor, Temuera Morrison, is recognisably Maori, his character used his normal New Zealand accent (not one of the world's nondescript accent)
