Actually, since the Phil. are a former Spanish colony, many DO speak Spanish. Points well taken, though.

The Spanish were kicked out in 1898, so very few Filipinos speak Spanish. Most of them have Spanish surnames, though, which confuses the heck out of marketers in So. Cal. I know a number of Filipinos who are annoyed, big time, at getting robo-calls and junk mail in Spanish.

That's me! One time I called the company that sent me a mailer in Spanish to tell them I felt insulted that just because my last name happened to be Hispanic-sounding, that they assumed I spoke only Spanish. Guess what happened next?

.....yep..I was made to sound like the bad guy (gal). After all, they only want to "serve the community". UGHHHH!!!
