Did anybody just see the graphic on CBS Morning News?
I guess they can't spell "Ugly".
They're about to do a story on kid's self-esteem.
They must have hired Obama's "Lybia" employee, lol.
(Excerpt) Read more at cbs.com ...
Can somebody confirm?
I don’t watch television, but this shouldn’t surprise anyone...the public schools have utterly destroyed the intellect of the last several generations of American children...by design.
I would point this out...they’ve cut their budgets to the bone at CBS, and they basically recruit junior folks to run the background services at a pretty low pay scale. Given a choice of working at CBS news or some local station in Davenport, Iowa.....I’d pick the Iowa job.
Hoping somebody got a Tivo it, even accidentally, so we'll know if I actually saw it correctly.
I just happened to glance over at the TV. It was about 7-10 minutes before the actual story.
Erica Hill does a decent enough job. I can't believe they redid the morning show with Gayle King and Charlie Rose. It's like “The View” for news now. I feel sorry for Erica Hill.
Russ Mitchell usually seemed to do a decent job, too.
lol
The internet is loaded with pictures of misspelled road signs, billboards, and such...the only people left in this country that can still spell are over fifty... :-)
It’s shown at 9 AM ET here in our market, I’ll look for it then.
The error was probably made by someone who’s been taught their self-esteem is more important than proper spelling. Lol
Thanks. I only caught a glance. They definitely corrected it later, if indeed the one I saw earlier was in error.
I used to watch it with that other guy,Wragge, and Erica Hill. Can’t stand that Charlie Rose and Gayle King tho. It’s unbearable!
I certainly don't begrudge them for the story (what little I saw). Some of these kids are posting YouTube videos asking if people think they're ugly. A very bad idea as folks just jump on there and hammer them.
But I agree our public schools (and colleges for that matter) have been taken over by liberals, and some Marxist sympathizers.
Now it looks like a tabloid magazine in the weekday mornings.
A few weeks ago, I happened to talk to a local news camera guy who had a jacket sporting the logo of a small cable channel I used to work for.
We also went through the same short television production class taught by a protected idiot.
He applied for a field production job at SCETV a while back and interviewed but didn’t get it. I agreed with him that he probably has better job security where he is at.
It’s a complicated situation, isn’t it? We’ve spent years promoting the wrong basis of self-esteem and are then surprised by these kids’ need for constant flattery, attention and self-esteem booster shots.
No wonder teen alcoholism, drug use, promiscuity and suicide are rampant.
Why watch that dreck? To know your enemy is the only reason I can think of.
Turn it off.
They’re showing “How Stuff Works” on PlanetGreen - the subject: Beer right now...
Agree with both of you. It was much better when the no-names were the anchors. They reported the news of the day far more than the other networks (who were into creating, massaging the news).
Can’t disagree. Just had it on to catch any updates on Iran and the Gulf. Often it’s George Stephansilliness or Matt Obama Lauer, so there are never good choices on “free” TV.
TV should not be a news source. You’re not getting news. You’re getting propaganda.
You can get all the news you need right here, on FR. If it matters, there’s at least two threads going on any given subject you need to know about.
True. Sometimes I like to see the video if there’s a good grab for a link.
When I catch cable, sometimes I’ll watch a half-hour of “Russia Today”.
Just to watch how they spin everything. Of course, America is always the bad guy on Russia Today. And they hired a whole slew of BBC-sounding “reporters” to try and make it sound “credible”.
The often demonize Israel and make excuses for Iran and AhmaDinnerJihad and the mullahs, of late.
There is some value in watching how they spin their propaganda.
At the exact bottom of the first hour, in a sidebar listing upcoming stories they were promoting, it was spelled correctly.
Thanks. It seems like it was in the first 10-20 minutes of the show. If there was an error, it only happened once.
Yes, at 38 after the hour in a promo for the story, the word was misspelled onscreen just as you noted in the phrase meant to be “Am I ugly?”.
Ah. THANK YOU!
Maybe somebody can grab a screen shot if they see the thread.
It’s called OBE Outcome based education, and there is plenty of it around.
It seems to be tradition in TV land to set the least literate staff member to typing up the chyrons.
To show you how bad things are at CBS, Russ Mitchell has left the network, and is now the lead anchor at WKYC-TV, the Gannett-owned station in Cleveland. Given the recent cuts at the local level, it’s a given that Mitchell took a steep pay cut when he accepted that job in Cleveland. I’m guessing that CBS decided he was too expensive (after 20 years in the news division), and declined to renew his contract, or made a low-ball offer that WKYC could match.
Whatever the reason for his departure, Mitchell was (and is) a much better anchor than either Rose or King. Rose is one of those guys who seems to maintain a career strictly on his media and political connections. He’s had an interview show on PBS for years (that no one watches), yet he stays on the air. On the few occasions I’ve looked in, I changed channels within 2-3 minutes, simply because it was so pretentious and dull. Apparently, CBS thinks that’s what viewers want at 7 am.
As for Ms. King, the last I heard of her TV career “before Oprah,” she was canned as a local anchor in Hartford. In fact, hooking up with Winfrey was probably the smartest move she ever made; with Oprah, King would probably be back in some small market, trying to hang onto her job.
The Rose/King pairing won’t last long..the ratings are flat, and CBS will be back and the drawing board again by the end of the year. A few things in life are guaranteed: death, taxes, and the inability of CBS to produce a viable morning news show.
It’s not just CBS. Keep an eye on the rolling banner on Fox News, along with the captions. The frequent misspellings will shock you. I actually emailed them once and offered to do proofreading.
The idiocracy is here.
I always liked Russ Mitchell. I did not know he was gone until I was looking around today. Well, he’s better off being away from them anyways.
Betty Nguyen is reasonably good too, though she often seems to parrot the party line for Obamugabe.
