Yes, Arcadia HS is still there. You were farther North than I. I am at 56street 2 blocks above Thomas.

Still here, on rare occassion, the train. Usually about 1:30 AM. I know, it’s the carry of the sound on the air, when the atmosphere is right, but I, as you can see, am not close to the train tracks.

Incredible you could hear the rumble of the tracks. Wow.

I often think of this column, the answers and stories were so interesting. It’s nice to know those who love the sounds of trains.

Danbury? Mass?

I can imagine the eeriness. What a picture, sung going down nearly completely and the sound of the train whistle.

Fascinating.

I know right where you are. I was born in Phx and lived in the Valley until I was 24. I went to Scottsdale HS and I know it no longer exists, so that’s why I asked about Arcadia high. The times I heard the train were always between 5 and 6 am, and sometimes it sounded like it was rolling down Indian School road, which was just south of me.

I still visit at Christmas, but I should really make more of an effort to explore my old stomping grounds. Maybe I’ll get up early and listen for the train.

Couple of nights ago heard this train blow it’s whistle at 1:30 am.

Have not heard it for long time, years, perhaps since when I wrote this column. There is a law in Tempe, Az that forbids the trains from blowing their whistles unless something is on the tracks.

Of course I wondered why the whistle was blown.

But I also thought of this column and those wonderful posts people wrote, including yours.
