Wheelchair Rugby Hits Idaho

It’s an aggressive, contact sport – and it’s made for athletes with physical disabilities.

Wheelchair rugby - or murder ball, as it’s also called - is now here in the Valley, thanks to a grant designated for disabled veterans.

It’s fast-paced, competitive, and full-contact.

Athletes playing it in Boise say it’s about time.

“Don’t have pity on us, you know? We may be in wheelchairs and stuff, but once you get in a wheelchair with us, you’re in our same playing field, and you’re not going to have pity for me, because I’m going to smash the crap out of you,” said Spencer Larimore.

Anyone can practice – but for games, players need to be medically classified as quadriplegic.

Teams through Boise Parks and Recreation are starting up in March.

That’s so cool. Vets need things like that to nurture their competitive spirit and drive. Good on Idaho.
