Your post just reinforces my point. You're happy living in Apple's closed ecosystem and in that ecosystem things are 'easy' to do; and that's great for you.

But those of us that have technical skills and run things other than Apple products don't find their products 'easy to use.'

I don't really need to know about "DCIM/100Apple" as my OS of choice (Ubuntu Linux) will recognize that a digital camera has been plugged in and will launch a photo manager. However, due to Apple's closed system, that using that photo manager to copy pictures to the iPhone won't cause said pictures to appear in the iPhone's photo gallery.

Again, do things the way Apple wants you to do and it's "simple," but if you want to do things even slightly different it's a real PITA. If that works for you, fine; I'm not trying to talk anyone into or out of a particular way of doing things (unlike Apple ;) ). But I'm not buying a Mac or a copy of iPhoto just so I can load some photos onto my wife's iPhone, and it's a real pisser that Apple's products won't do things that the cheapest digital camera or MP3 player on the planet will.

This is what's insulting. I was writing in machine language at 13 (not assembler, machine), and currently can write in several languages. I run scores of application and database servers at work. I am quite technically oriented.

But when I'm done being paid to be down and dirty with the tech, I'd like things to "just work" when it comes time to take care of my photos and other home-oriented things. This is where Apple rules. Turns out, the Apple way to install an UPS was just to plug everything in and adjust the settings in Energy Saver, which really freaked me out as a long-time Windows user. The Windows way (where you get to do it like you want supposedly) involved downloading the latest drivers (the ones on the disk weren't the latest), remembering not to plug in the USB until drivers are installed (or you're in trouble), etc.

Too bad I had to do it the "Apple way." I could have spent more time fiddling with the UPS and drivers. Oh joy.

Loving my HTC Amaze 4G and how I can tether my other devices with one button .... And use it as a wireless Wi-Fi router again one button on or off. I have unlimited everything & 5 gb a month network connection. I no longer need DSL in house can run everything wireless thru my phone. Do I miss my iphone & iTunes? Not once since I went droid!
