CNN Radio News affiliates are being told by Dial Global that "as of Sunday, April 1, CNN Radio News will no longer be distributed by Dial Global and will not be produced for U.S. radio distribution." It says "the content provider for your affiliation will change from CNN Radio News to CBS Radio News."
Also this morning: Dial Global and NBC News announce the creation of "NBC News Radio", a new 24-hour radio news network. Dial Global co-president/CEO Spencer Brown says "Through our new partnership with NBC News we are proud to continue in the tradition of defining great moments for radio listeners across our country." Elizabeth O'Connell is announced as the Executive Producer for NBC News Radio. More now at Radio-Info.com.
Wow, what a choice.
CNN or NBC.
Glad I’ve still got the net.
Meet the new liberals. Same as the old liberals.
A good excuse for little nostalgia for us radio guys
Of course the G-E-C chimes were the best known, but CBS had it’s own chimes too:
And Mutual’s dramatic news theme was probably the most impressive:
Fact is, the famous NBC chimes were produced by a motorized gizmo, except for these very early days:
All of course actually WERE News networks, in sharp contrast to what we have today no matter what it’s called.
CNN or NBC...
Same DNA, same CRAP.
A radio blogger tweets to me: “Dial Global inherited a good chunk of NBC content(MSNBC updates,CNBC biz updates) when they bought W1.Now, they’ll add NBC News”
W1 is Westwood One, which had syndicated O’Reilly’s radio show, Dennis Miller, etc. Dial Global syndicates music
(Country Top 40, House of Blues Hour), sports, and news/talk (Smerconish, Stephanie Miller, Clark
Howard, Neil Boortz, Sgt Dumbkoft Schulz, Thom Hartmann,
Dennis Miller, Bill Press.
At one point the NBC chimes were made into what I think was called “The NBC Love Song”; came out in 30s or 40s and once
Garrett Morris sang it at the start of a Saturday Night Live show.
CNN, SeeBS, or NBC - what’s the difference?
Propaganda is still propaganda, no matter how much lipstick they put on the pig!!
