When is "slut" not insulting? Carbonite and the Liberal double standard
The Washington Times ^ | March 5th | Henry D'Andrea

Posted on 03/05/2012 5:09:52 AM PST by conservativeforpalin

A double standard exists in the Liberal realm of pseudo-impartiality, and it is on full display with the recent controversy over Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s comments aimed at Sandra Fluke.

As a result of Limbaugh’s comments, in which he referred to Ms Fluke as a “slut,” several of his advertisers, including Quicken Loans, and most recently ProFlowers, dropped their advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio show.

Carbonite is an online computer backup service company that Rush Limbaugh has highly touted, reading their ads live on the air.

Outcry over Limbaugh’s comments led him to apologize to Sandra Fluke for calling her a “slut” however Carbonite still withdrew its advertising from Limbaugh's show.

The WORST part of this whole staged event is the FACT that Congress actually is USED by bringing “sluts” to Testify (on Taxpayers’ dime), along with contiuous Hollywood Celebrities who Testify at various Hearings, who have NO CLUE as to what Real America is about....they are props for The Progressive Agenda, and their “Testimony” is nowhere near the Reality of everyday American life.

The woman’s description of herself was the definition of the word slut.

If a woman states that she sells here body for money, is it an insult to refer to her as a whore?

Two of my clients have pulled their Carbonite accounts. I am now talking to them about alternatives, including designing an in-house system of backups. And that means money in my pockets.

And yes, I believe that a woman that requires over a $1000 a year to have sex, and wants to get that money from the government, is a slut. I mean, That’s a lot of sex.

Let them pull. Let them take a hit in the pocket. There are other advertisers waiting in line to be talked about on the most listened to program on the air, and I hope to hear from them now.

Well obviously the Carbonite CEO is a leftist and follows the leftist law of double standards when it comes to other leftists calling someone a slut. Good, it’ll be interesting to watch as Carbonites customer base drops like the Titanic.

It's all about timing isn't it. Limbaugh was set up...not with a single word...It's the whole story....

We heard from the church and now we have a little operative coming to town telling the church to go away...That this free pills for sex is some kind of right??

The pill is not the solution....abstinence is the real solution.

As far as the grusome stories...I doubt them "on their face" because as a Law student, she knows the consequence of public disclosure of personal matters....all hearsay to start with and "ruining the reputation of specific doctors". ???

Like I said, she's nothing more than a PAID Dem operative.

When did we reach the point where calling a slut a slut is wrong?
Ms Fluke testified that she is a slut.
She stated that she is so sexually active that her cost of birth control is $3000 and that she wants someone other than herself to pay for it.
Okay, she is a slut. Tired of these assclown liberal getting to determine the English language!

Didn’t she demand $3000? I was doing the math last night, and concluded that if she truly was a student as claimed going for a 4 year degree (even though I read she graduated in 2003) $3000 bucks using a one dollar condom for each time, would be equal to having sex 2.05 times every single day or 14.35 times a week or 430.5 times a month for 4 years. I don’t know any guy on this earth who could keep up with that schedule, much less while using a condom each and everytime. Myself personally I could probably do it for a week before I collapsed. Maybe longer when I was like 14. So this tells me she must have multiple partners, ergo - a slut.

Seems to me that if you can’t afford condoms or the pill, you have no business having sex in the first place. Further, if you put your promiscuity before a Congressional committee, is that not admitting to Congress and the press that you are indeed a slut? Oh, wait....only liberals can call people sluts, so it was OK for a guy like Bill Maher to call Sarah Palin a c*nt on his show.

She’s a law student - generally a 3 year plan. (following at least 4 years of undegrad)

And she didn’t “demand” anything...She said it “can cost as much as...”

The anecdotes in her testimony had nothing to do with herself, or sex - mostly about the therapeutic uses of contraception products. (BC pills are prescribed for certain cancer and hormonal therapies)

When the Left uses it, silly.

Didn’t you get the memo?

The Left can say any racist, sexist, eugenicist, anti-Christian, anti-Jew, anti-Catholic thing they want and get a complete pass.

Ben & Jerry can finance the Occutard criminals to commit felonies against the people, and they get a pass.

Conservatives are not allowed a pass on anything, not language, not activity, not even frustration at the double-standard.

Another winning argument the Republicans threw away because of their selfish fear on how the leftwing media will portray them.

And on top of that, I am most disappointed in Rush for his horrible judgement on this.

The leftwing has been promoting condoms in schools for decades. All of a sudden caring about “unportected sex” is a big deal to them. They are clearly doing this to create a further burden on insurance companies to pay for AIDS care.
Basically the left wants more heterosexual AIDS patients in order to overwhelm insurance companies and force people into government care.

Am I the only one who sees this?

I think that an overwhelming majority get it.. the Left does not care and has never had the intent to discuss any such "issue." "Issues" are weapons to use against opponents.

The Left has had just one real issue for 50 years at least, destroy the opposition. They do that by making the opponent the issue. Rush is the issue not his message. He had to be frightened into submission. Shoo the messenger.

Laugh at the aging 1960s Marxist campus spoiled brats and their ideological issue.. they are now arguably the Establishment. Lots of FReepers are doing the right thing.

Good article but we all need to remember this “incident” is just a diversion from the real issues. The more people dwell on Rush, the more we forget her insane request and that Democrats pushed it. Just another step towards government control and lack of personal responsibility. One day our population will wake up and realize free sex has destroyed the family. With sex obtained so easily, people forget to look for qualities that form a lifelong relationship. However, I guess this is the type of population that is easier to control and more desireable to those in power. Also explains why religion is high on their hit list as well.

I wonder if she attended one of the slutwalks and sluts for choice rallies last year, they got a lot of media coverage and some of them were sponsored by Planned Parenthood and NOW.

The only theraputic thing about birth control she mentioned, was the last of three cases and it was very vague.

People who want stuff from government are sluts.

Ms Fluke testified that she is a slut.

No. She did not. I suggest you read her statement. The lefty Sandra Fluke never testifies that she even took birth control or had sex.

She stated that she is so sexually active that her cost of birth control is $3000 and that she wants someone other than herself to pay for it.

No. She did not. That is not in her testimony. She said that for some women in law school birth control cost $3000. She said she earned only $3000 last summer as a public interest (read: liberal activist) intern.

The ridiculous Ms. Fluke was trotted out as an expert on how women need contraception for reasons unrelated to sex, and how many women aren't covered for contraception, and what a financial strain it puts on them - all because she's been involved in leftist groups in college and law school. She's not an expert, which is why she wasn't allowed to testify before Congress. So the Democrats let her speak to them - without being sworn under oath - and the news media covered it as if it were a Congressional hearing.

But Fluke never mentioned her own contraception a single time. She never mentioned having sex herself once. She never mentioned her own cost of contraception a single time.

Right after the introduction, Fluke said:

"When I look around my campus, I see the faces of the women affected by this lack of contraceptive coverage. [I]n the last week, I have heard more and more of their stories. On a daily basis, I hear yet from another woman from Georgetown or from another school or who works for a religiously-affiliated employer, and they tell me that they have suffered financially and emotionally and medically because of this lack of coverage.

“And so, I’m here today to share their voices, and I want to thank you for allowing them – not me – to be heard.

Then Fluke mentioned six other women (who may or may not even exist) and 'low-income women).

Here's what Fluke said. I ask: Where did Fluke mention her own sex life? Fluke said:

(1) one woman (not Fluke) felt embarrassed and powerless when she 'learned for the first time that contraception was not covered on her insurance and she had to turn and walk away because she couldn’t afford that prescription';

(2) a married female student told Fluke that she had to stop using contraception because "she and her husband just couldn’t fit it into their budget anymore;"

(3) 'women employed in low-wage jobs without contraceptive coverage can't fit contraception into their budgets;'

(4) a friend has polycystic ovarian syndrome, and her birth control prescription is 'technically covered by Georgetown’s insurance because it’s not intended to prevent pregnancy', but the *gay* friend was denied coverage because the insurance company decided that she really wanted birth control to prevent pregnancy;

(5) a woman said doctors believe she has endometriosis, but that can’t be proven without surgery, so the insurance won't cover birth control pills for endometriosis;

(6) another woman told Fluke that she also has polycystic ovarian syndrome and Georgetown quit paying for it last August;

and (7) one woman (a really bright woman, apparently) allegedly knew about Georgetown's unwillingness to cover birth control, so when she was raped she didn't seek medical attention because she thought Georgetown didn't cover women's health issues.

Then she said that when 'we' women came to Georgetown we expected women to be treated fairly and to care for all of 'our' medical needs.

If true, a carefully collected bunch of stories that are the wide exception - and even then, we have to force Roman Catholic Universities to provide birth control because a woman is too stupid to seek care for a rape because her birth control isn't paid for?

But . . . Fluke didn't talk about herself, and Rush Limbaugh was an idiot and went on and on about how Luke talked about how much sex she was having, and how her parents must be so proud, and how she was a slut and a prostitute.

Rush screwed this up for conservatives. We had the moral high ground on the issue of Obama trying to force healthcare plans funded by religious groups to provide this kind of preventive care against religious beliefs. Now, because Rush wanted to be cute and to call the lefty blowhard Sandra Fluke a slut and a prostitute, and to talk repeatedly about how Sandra Fluke told Congress about all the sex she was having - he had to apologize, everyone in the media has a factual basis to claim that Rush Limbaugh spouts off without knowing or sticking to the facts, and what people will remember about this issue isn't that Obama was trying a power play, but that Rush called Sandra Fluke a slut (and was wrong).

And because Rush said it, we have a whole group of conservatives who didn't listen to the testimony, or read it, who assume Rush was basing his statements on fact - and they're going to stick to that. Rush should have attacked all of this stories Fluke told (while not under oath) about other women, and the figures on the cost of birth control, and statistics, that Fluke used. But he went personal and accused her of saying stuff she never said a single time. Note that Fluke didn't talk about her own sex life or even say whether she was straight and had sex. And we don't know if she's straight. Her degree from Cornell. Her degree is in Policy Analysis & Management and Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies (which explains going to law school - that undergraduate degree is really, really useful on its own). At Cornel, she protested a pro-life display when she was an officer of Cornel's Students Acting for Gender Equality (SAGE). Fluke is a blowhard activist. She immediately got involved in Law Students for Reproductive Justice, the International Women's Human Rights Clinic, the Women's Legal Alliance, the Journal of Gender and the Law. That $3,000 public interest job she had was at the Womens Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.

I don't know that you're going to find a sexual partner of Sandra Fluke who requires contraceptives.

But on FR we need to quit repeating the lie that Sandra Fluke 'testified' about all of her sex. Because she didn't testify about any of her sex or any of her birth control.

And then there’s the “plot” of GCB: High School mean girl comes home after a trauma and the 40 somethings she tormented haven’t gotten over the crap she pulled in high school. Seriously?

And the people that LOVE this have gone nuts over Limbaugh.

Oh yes, the math is definitely settled. What I’m waiting for is this girl to come out and either defend this math, or admit to lying.

I would rather call her a liar than a slut. I don’t like calling people names that question their integrity like that. It’s not in my nature. I would much rather expose her (and her handlers) as liars. I want them to admit to lying - And I think Rush did as well. Smoke them out.

They lied about her status as a college student, they were deceptive on the whole topic - And they need to get called out. But instead, they are sticking to their ridiculous guns and just being offended at the label.

I hope this woman isn’t a slut. I hope and wish that she were a responsible (If but mis-directed) professional.

Actually, Rush’s description is still technically correct. I have to apologize for saying she was a sexual slut, but I think you could still rightfully call her a slut based on her own slovenly and lax statements.
Dan Aykroyd made a pretty good living calling Jane Curtin an “ignorant slut”. My goodness, we used to greet each other in the hallways at school saying, “Jane, you ignorant slut!” We thought it was funny. I didn’t hear about any advertisers being threatened if they didn’t pull away from Saturday Night Live. So the hipsters were using the word in the 1970s, and it was cool, but now it’s bad? Sorry, there’s that old double standard again.

Rush’s description is still technically correct.

Well, for four days Rush combined calling her a "slut" with saying that Fluke 'testified' that was having so much sex that should could barely walk, and similar comments.

Yes, that's just one of the actual things that Limbaugh said. So he was clearly using the term 'slut' to refer to excessive physical sex.

And I don't know why Rush would say that Fluke 'testified' unless he kept slipping up. Fluke wasn't under oath. The Democrats wanted to call her as an expert witness (which is why she was talking about other women, and healthcare programs in general, and not about herself). She wasn't qualified to be a witness. So she merely read a presentation to Democrats and the idiot media covered it as if she were an expert.

But she wasn't under oath and she didn't 'testify' to anything.
