I'm in the market for an ipad, but it doesn't have to be the new one. I'm not hearing of any deals on the ipad2 now that the ipad3 is coming out. What do you think? I was hoping to buy a discounted ipad2.
Yes. The Ipad 2 will be discounted a lot.
Once the iPad 3 is available, you should see the remaining stock reduced significantly, if there are any available.
I bought an iPad 1 at the Verizon store at a discount last year. Everything I read has been prices will drop and it is already happening on the used iPad market.
I love my IPad2, so if you can get one discounted go for it. I couldn’t wait because of my vendor business I am in but I did get a good deal since I did not get one when they first came out. I’m not a techie, all I can say is I love it and it is very versatile.
Any advice is appreciated. FR has the best anecdotal shopping advice anywyere.
So you think the ipad2 will become quickly unavailable? They won't produce them anymore?
I’m sure like the original iPad there will be a discount but possibly not as much as you expect w/ anticipated demand for the reduced price 2. Also, I wouldn’t expect the remaining inventory of 2’s to last very long as there are so many carriers now that sell Apple. (of course, you can always consider android tablets.)
I just checked and the Apple Refurb store still has some first generation iPads remaining and there is very little price difference between that and the current generation so they aren’t even marking down the first gen that much.
They are still pretty high considering what you can get an Android tab for.
It depends on what Apple does.
They continued to sell the iPhone 4, after announcing the 4S, to reduce the entry cost for people that couldn't afford the full price. You can even get an iPhone 3GS for free, with a 2 year contract. These are new phones, not refurbished. But, I don't know if it's existing stock or if they continue to manufacture them.
There's also a pipeline of refurbished iPhones and iPads. AT&T is already selling refurbished iPad 2's for $100 less than the new ones.
I suggest that you look on eBay. There will be lots of people upgrading to the next iPad, and will be offering their current one for sale.
Now, why wouldn’t they mark them down, or take them off the market entirely? Someone explain this marketing plan to me. Why would anyone buy the older technology at the same price?
Lifetime mac/apple user. Until I got an iphone, I couldn’t even figure out how to access my voicemail, so I warned everyone not to use it. Yes. That’s me. Androids are for lots smarter people.
It isn’t the same, but it is a very small difference so some will jump on the old for the slight discount until the inventory is depleted. Also, the refurb store is factory reconditioned so you’ll still have those in the cycle for a few more years.
Holdout for the iPad 4.
Based upon the rumor sites I have seen - the general idea is that the iPad2 will be discounted ~$200 starting in about 5 hours from now.
Why? Well, the iPad came out with the A4 chip, and this chip was used with the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 went into low maintencance mode shortly thereafter - so the quantity of chips required went down; thus the origional iPad was put on a “Fire Sale”. Verizon stores were selling the origional iPad 64 Gig Wi-Fi for $349 after taxes in Utah. I know, 4 of my co-workers jumped on that deal.
However, the iPhone 4S is current, and uses the A5 chip, as does the iPad2; thus I believe that there will be a “Economy” iPad, the iPad2 and this will start at $299; and as we get to $499 we will have the iPad HD starting there.
Thus, if I were you; I’d be looking at the iPad2 and not dropping any money on one until 11am PST. By then, all the unknowns, will be known.
Amazon slipped most of their stock of iPads out through woot.com during their woot-off a couple weeks ago, but it generally shows what discount they’re leaning towards - The 32gb likely will be in the range of $425 when the new iPads are released. $50 less for the 16gb, $100 more for the 64gb.
Best deals likely will be through the carriers if you want a 3g tablet.
Piker. I'm already in line for the iPad 7.
If you haven’t already, go to macmall.com and sign up for their emails. They regularly send out notices of sales on Apple and other products.
