After years of delays, the big-screen version of the popular Fifties show started filming last month.
And producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave fans a sneak peek at what to expect with the first photo of Armie Hammer as the Ranger and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto.

Looks goofy, although it’s interesting to see Tom Wilkinson in the cast; as a general rule, he doesn’t sign on to stinkers.
Hallowe`en on Horses
Looks stoopid.
The Lone Ranger - Darkside.
Timothy Olyphant would be a good Lone Ranger.
I just can’t figure out why nobody wants to watch Hollywood movies anymore. lol
“Doc say Kemosabe gonna die!”
I never thought I would like the pirates flicks but those were actually pretty good.
Is he going to play Tonto a bit effeminate as he did Jack Sparrow?
I remember the Far Side cartoon where the Lone Ranger discovers after his retirement that the word “Kimosabe” means “Horse’s Rear End.”
,p>
I’ve not seen any of the pirates flicks...almost went to the last one because Ian McShane was in it, but figured without having seen any of the earlier ones, I wouldn’t get half of it.
Why does Tonto have a dead crow on his head?
Armie Hammer, eh? He’s descended from the rich oil mogul who founded the Communist Party USA.
It’s short for Armand Hammer, which was originally chosen as a pun on the Communist Arm and Hammer logo of the USSR.
Rather an odd ancestry for the Lone Ranger.
Tonto means “idiot” in Spanish.
Tonto means “idiot” in Spanish.
I thought we were told that hiring whites to play minorities is racist??
Why the heck does Depp have a dead bird on his head?? is the precursor of a new trend?
Does “Tonto” mean “Bird brain” ??? When he rides real fast, does the dead bird fly off his head?...Inquiring minds want to know...
Eh...may have to check them out.
“Why does Tonto have a dead crow on his head?”
Just to be an authentic head.
But is it worse than hiring Canadians to play Americans?
Sweet Jesus!
Hollywood quit messin’ with my friggin’ childhood.
I loved the Lone Ranger. Clayton Moore, and Jay Silverheels were the only Lone Ranger and Tonto I knew.
Who’s got that “Not this sh*&! again” photo?
It applies to this.
Fixed...there's no such thing as a "Native" American. No human is "native" to this continent.
Next thing you know, they'll get a black guy to play James West.
Fixed...there's no such thing as a "Native" American. No human is "native" to this continent.
Armand Hammer, Arnie's great-grandfather, was the oil mogul.
Armand's father Julius was involved in forming the Communist Party USA.
Its short for Armand Hammer, which was originally chosen as a pun on the Communist Arm and Hammer logo of the USSR.
The symbol of the USSR was a hammer and sickle. The symbol of the Socialist Labor Party of America, founded in 1877, was an arm holding a hammer. Julius Hammer was a member of this party before he helped start the Communist Party USA.
Why do they keep making movies based on old TV shows?
They are never like the original. They either make a spoof out of it, or make a “dark” version of the characters, or make it politically correct.
Have Hollywood idiots truly run out of new ideas for movies????
I’ve heard of eating crow, but never wearing it.
As long as they get a real horse to play Hiyo Silver, and a real Swiss to play the William Tell Overture.
yes, because you wouldn’t expect them to cast a Native American as Tonto, now, would you?
Great, now they’re going to ruin The Lone Ranger and Tonto’s good names.
I was mesmerized by that show as pre-teen girl.
Only whites could play Indians back them.
Some made the grade and some didn’t.
Dang. Someone else that has seen “Dead Man”.
Iggy Pop was a hoot!
“Stupid f-—ing white man”
You got it.
You’d think (and it looks like you’d be right) that Hollywood has run out ideas.
If it ain’t Vampires, Werewolves or Zombies, then “let’s remake an old beloved t.v. show”
I even heard they wanted to do a big screen version of, Hogan’s Heros.
Johnny Depp, as Tonto Kowalski.
yes pretty much. its all about $$
Hey! It’s Jack Sparrow! Oh wait.....
One word to Hollywood about remakes and sequels....DON’T.
Yeah, I wrote that too fast. Thanks.
Great old joke :^)
“Timothy Olyphant would be a good Lone Ranger.”
Yes he would. Big Tim O’ fan since the days of “Deadwood.” He’s got to be the toughest character in TV and film these days. Like his screen personality. Imagine Tim O’ in a modern day reincarnation of “Dirty Harry.”
As for Tonto, er Depp, wearing a complete stuffed crow upon his head.....I really can’t say. That’s not any type of traditional Native headdress to my knowledge. Native headdresses are if anything light and practical. That contraption is neither. Appears made for the film. Overdone.
I think it's a hidden "green agenda" message from Hollywierd.
When he rides real fast, the dead bird's wings spread out, generating a lift (like an airplane wing). Then Tonto clamps his legs tight against his horse. This slightly lifts both Tonto and the horse, causing less weight, and thus, less down-force on the terrain, resulting in less damage to the environment.
It also gives Tonto more "miles to the Gallup".
WTF is going on with Depp’s head?!?
Did they resurrect Hitchcock for this flick?
Johnny Depp is from Kentucky and says he either has Cherokee or Creek in his bloodline. Actually if you see him when he’s looking normal (as in-not in costume), he does look Native American.
(yes, I’m going to call them that ‘cause I have no clue what else to call them)
Could ANYTHING be worse than hiring a Frenchy to play a Highlander and a Scot to play a freaking Spaniard?
Arrrgh!
I totally see that logic..lol. No carbon “footprint” to track. BRILLIANT!
