Peyton Manning Arrives In Denver For Meeting With Broncos
CBSDenver ^ | March 9, 2012

A plane carrying Peyton Manning has arrived in the Denver area.

The legendary quarterback is meeting with executives with the Denver Broncos to discuss the potential of signing with the team.

CBS4 reporter Gary Miller says Manning has strong interest in the Broncos and the team could be among the Top 5 teams Manning is considering.

“Manning will visit other places, he’ll visit Arizona and he’ll visit Miami,” said Miller. “But at this point, the Broncos believe that they may well be the favorites to land Peyton Manning. And indeed, the first visit he’s making is here to Denver.”

Denver is reportedly the first team Manning will meet with in person since he was cut by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this week.

Manning missed the entire 2011 season with a damaged nerve that caused weakness in his right arm and required multiple neck surgeries, including a single-level fusion in September. He has brushed off questions about retirement, insisting that — after parting ways with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday — he still wants to play.

“This has to be exciting for the average Broncos fan. Certainly, this puts Tim Tebow’s future in doubt here in Denver and the reports that we have heard were if the Broncos were able to land Manning they would make an attempt to trade Tim Tebow. So there’s no question the Broncos are all in on Manning. They want to make him the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos,” said Miller.

“If things go the way they want, Manning will be playing for the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow will be playing elsewhere. The Broncos are determined that Peyton Manning is the man they want to be their quarterback.”

I'm not sure if this is a good deal for Denver. How many more seasons is Manning going to be able to play? How much of a team can they build around an older, hurt quarterback?

Perhaps they would use Manning as a mentor for Tebow for a season or two.

At least Manning is able to throw.

Tebow is a poor man’s Mark Brunell - a better Mike Norseth.

Play him at tight end. Let him run a reverse, or a reverse pass now and then.

Reports are that the Broncos will trade Tebow if they sign Manning.

Being a star quarterback, a highly successful one, isn’t always about one’s passing ability. There have plenty of rocket-armed young turks who got to the NFL and withered.

There are many traits that go into making a champion....leadership, field generalship, character, commitment, winning attitude, sportsmanship, team player, etc., etc.

Tebow has all those things in spades. It would be a horrific mistake to trade him and go with Manning. Manning is a Hall of Famer, no doubt, but his best days are long behind him. Tebow is the future. As someone above pointed out, make Manning Tebow’s mentor, asst. quarterback coach (in effect), and backup. That....is a winning strategy.

It would be a smart move, Tebow’s value will never be higher, and Jacksonville needs to put butts in seats, so it would be a no-brainer for Jax and Denver to make a deal.

I’m starting to like the idea of Tebow and Maurice Jones-Drew in the same backfield.

I guess Peyton will play somewhere, although I think it is dangerous for his health.

But as long as he’s risking his health...Kansas City is always an option.

Please Peyton.

They don’t have an NFL caliber QB so it is probably a good move.

I agree that would be a winning strategy.... but a mighty expensive one.

I couldn’t agree more. Tebow is Denver’s future.

If Peyton doesn’t mind the prospect of drinking his steaks through a straw for the rest of his life, he should continue playing.

The Vikings could use Tebow as well.

Yep, it would be nice to see the Tebow to Harvin combination again.

We could use a new quarterback in Dallas.

It’s a good fit. With Denver’s defense and Manning’s leadership / field presence, the minute he puts on the uniform they’ll be Super Bowl contenders.

Good point. Peyton Manning is a great fit for a team that is set in most other areas and is just a solid QB away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Take Manning and trade Tebow to Washington.

Maybe someday Tebow will be as accomplished an NFL quarterback as you.
