Vitamin D Deficiency and Fibromyalgia: Lessening the Pain and Depression
Yahoo ^ | March 12, 2012 | Sherry Tomfeld

Two years ago, I started reading about vitamin D deficiency. In articles by Dr. Frank Lipkin and on Natural News, they explained the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. Guess what? To my surprise and curiosity, a lot of the symptoms were like fibromyalgia. I went back through my paperwork and saw that the nurse had indeed told me to take vitamin D.

I have members of my family that have fibromyalgia. If I remember correctly, there were quite a few people on here that were affected directly or indirectly from it.

I gave this to the girls to read. I hope something helps them. I think there may well be a connection.

Do yourself a favor and start taking Iodine supplements too. Most Americans are deficient in Vitamin D and Iodine.

Check a spiritual component too.

I was talking to a PhD from our health plan about this. He has observed a strong correlation between unforgiveness and fibromyalgia. Seems that a person who chooses not to forgive(predominantly a woman) begins to lock up with pain.

Counseling to let go, then, becomes part of the solution.

There are many in the medical community who believe that fibromyalgia was created to describe something they (the medical community) can’t figure out. That’s why there is so much trouble treeating it. Possibilities of what it REALLY is range from depression, to hormonal issues linked to menopause, especially in early onset, neurological issues, or any combination of the the aforementioned.

I’ve suffered with depression and lots of anxiety for years. My doctor tested my Vitamin D levels. I was mildly low, but enough she put me on a prescription form of Vitamin D. I’ve noticed I’m dealing with anxiety a bit better and overall better attitude.

I’m glad to hear you are doing better. The one girl has SAD (seasonal affected disorder) and seems to thrive when she is able to be outside in the sun. So for her, this kinda makes since.

Vitamin D in large quantities works like prednisone to hide the inflammation, it doesn't cure it.

If you want to cure fibromyalgia, try this: Marshall Protocol

And yes, I do use the MP for sarcoid, so this is not a random suggestion but one I know works.

My wife had been telling me to take iodoral (iodine supplement) for years. I used to tease her about it - she was always claiming it did these miraculous things for her.

I started taking it myself about six months ago. I'm not kidding or exaggerating when I say I feel twenty years younger. The stiffness in my joints has all but disappeared.

I believe in body mind connection also, but it’s really annoying to be sick and then told it’s your fault because you didn’t forgive or something.

We’ve all known too many people with various painful and serious disorders who are totally good and nice.

Part of the Menopause problem is Iron. Women who do not bleed and men DO NOT need Iron supplements. Iron has tons of problems associated with it.

I agree. But when I think mind, body, spirit..I am thinking that stinkin’ thinkin’ can play havoc with the body. I think positive thinking and for me, a strong spiritual life gets me through a lot of tough times.

I think if you are truly upset about something, but not dealing with it head on..it can and does aggravate illnesses. But yes, a cousin of mine had to deal with MS for most of her adult life. The medicine she took ended up causing her bones, especially in her back, to fracture. She then got cancer. Through it all, she was a prime example of someone walking in faith.

Clinicians seeing limited patient subsets come up with all kinds of nutty associations. Especially if they've been reading too many old psychodynamics textbooks. My wife with Fib is the most forgiving person in the world. Staying with me is proof lol.

Check a spiritual component too.

I was going to shrug this off, but began mentally listing the women if my life in the healthy / unhealthy categories. Pretty much follows the forgive / hold grudge pattern.

So your point should be given consideration.

There’s some book making the rounds called A More Excellent Way. The guy tries to link particular sins to particular diseases. Unbelievable. If sin in one’s life resulted in illness, the whole world would be sick.

I just figure they’ve never read the book of Job.

Blessings to your wife, I, too, have a chronic illness (MS), and they’re hard enough to deal with aside from “well meaning” folk trying to tell you if you’d only think right, eat right, exercise right, repent right, take this supplement, try that meditation technique...you wouldn’t have the illness.

That being said, I do take vitamin D in fairly large doses because I do tend to test low. Has it helped the course of my disease, or made me feel any better or altered the progression? Not that I’m aware of, but maybe I would be worse off if I didn’t.

Psychodymaic explanations can often appears to be clever and viable on the surface, yet are ultimately useless in therapy. There’s a reason few patients will pay $500/hr for psychoanalysis anymore (still a small number of well-heeled clients who crave the attention). Most M.D. analysts still practicing simply write up prescriptions now.

Thanks for the link. I will study and hopefully find something that will help. Am stuck in the “chronic Lyme” controversy and my local doc is not Lyme literate.

It works for Lyme too. My wife has Lyme & RA and it's going good.

It does not work fast or easy, though.
