After seeing what happened to Rush with the Left and how the media, especially HBO treats women, I decided to do something about it.
I got rid of my Time Warner Cable and got AT&T U-Verse package. It saves me over $100.00 per month and I don't have to deal with HBO and their hatred of women.
Today I will write a letter to the editor of my local paper telling them what I did and why. If we can all do the same thing, maybe, just maybe it will make a difference.
I would get rid of HBO if it weren’t for “Game of Thrones” and “Boardwalk Empire”.
Ya...and those are about the only reasons I keep it.
I am saving countless amounts of money because I dumped TV altogether back in 1997. I expected certain changes, but the one I didn’t see coming was the almost complete removal of my family from consumerism now that we are not inundated by ads for stuff we don’t need.
Judging by the things they advertise in the subway, they seem like a petty, opportunistic bunch of self-infatuated frat-boys. Nobody would ever mistake it for art, that’s for sure.
The other day I was reading and for some stupid reason had not turned the Idiot Box off. It was on the cartoon channel where the grands had been watching. A cartoon went off. Commercials came on. And stayed on and stayed on and stayed on and stayed on. When I started counting, they stayed on for SEVEN more minutes. Those commercials had to have stayed on for 9 to 10 minutes!!! Just slamming children with YOU GOTTA HAVE THIS, YOU GOTTA HAVE THAT, TELL MOMMY AND DADDY TO GET YOU THIS. Boom, boom, boom, just slamming them.
Don’t have and will never have HBO; just not my kind of entertainment.
I use the comparison of the “How to boil a frog alive”. We see ourselves as “frogs” that got out of the water in 1997 and afterward realized it was already really hot. Now we dip our toe in when in public places or at relatives. It is absolutely boiling, now.
I think it, coupled with the infestation of internet porn, will be the undoing of western civilization. I think it already IS the undoing...
Hollywood has us willingly dangling on a leash because we think we get something in return. I struggle with this every day. By evening I'm so mentally exhausted that all I want to do is be entertained by The Office, The Big Bang Theory, Uncoded, and the like. Simple shows, but they still pay the bills for the Hollywood elite.
The moment we decide to give up television and movies is the day that the left loses its megaphone.
It’s been my experience as a cable TV user that it’s hard NOT to get HBO.
That being said, I don’t pay much attention to them.
Please pardon my ignorance, but what’s HBO’s latest offense against women?
“HBO and their hatred of women.”
What did I miss? Where have they shown a hatred of women?
My Comcast package doesn’t include HBO but I get plenty of other movie channels that I like better. As to HBO’s hatred of women, do a Google search on Bill Maher; they run his show.
“GET RID OF HBO”
And BHO as well!
“HBO and their hatred of women.”
I think that Maher’s comments indicate HBO’s hatred of women since they did nothing to stop Maher.
If Limbaughs comment about Fluke indicates his hatred of women, there is no reason why Maher’s comments and HBO turning a blind eye towards it is anything different.
The only way to beat the left is to bankrupt them.

Thanks, here’s some further discussion of that:
I mean, it was just so damn GAY!
I got rid of premium channels years ago.
“U-Verse also carries HBO as a premium package just like Time Warner, don’t they?”
HBO for me on Time Warner isn’t a premium. It is part of my basic package. To get rid of HBO I have to get rid of Time Warner.
I’m already there ... DirecTV makes you pay quite a lot extra for HBO as it is, so for HBO I don’t shell out. Got me a mid-tier package.
I canceled HBO.
It would interesting to know how many subscriptions they lost
Netflix has the GOT and BW dvds available to rent. I watch all my tv that way.
HBO is twelve channel of nothing but Bill Maher and God awful rot gut crap movies and pervert shows.
Not only would I not pay for it, I would not watch it if they paid me to.
The same can be said for all premium movie channels, except possibly for Starz, which avoids the lame soft core porn garbage, but still plays nothing but crap movies.
The answer is Netflix.
Why watch someone else’s play list when you can watch your own for so very much cheaper?
Pretty much the same for I-Pod and radio. I make my own music play list, and I do not ever listen to commerical music radio.
I just wait for their interesting looking series to come out on DVD or digital download. I bought season one of "Boardwalk Empire" and was quite dissapointed. It was OK but didn't come close to living up to the hype. JMHO.
Got to agree with that — my two favorites, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
They’re alright, but True Blood is waaaaaaay better.... Seeing Sookie Stackhouse restores my faith in women....
I find that TV in general is pushing the gay agenda it seems like every show has to have the funny gay person.
We haven’t had TV in our house in about 7 years. Now when I see TV I get a really creepy vibe.
Blu-Rays of both will continue to be released - $42 (or less) if you can delay gratification that long.
—Now when I see TV I get a really creepy vibe.—
Same here. It is almost like you are watching “evil” blossom. In everything. It’s a foreign culture to me now.
kill the Tv. I haven’t had outside tv in over 5 years. Miss my football a bit, but overall, it is a better living environment and I have more time on my hands.
There was a push for the politicians to not side with the entertainment lobbyist, but rather families, and allow people to be able to choose the channels they want and pay for only them. I think it's caught up in court. The the left and right don't want the steady flow of money from the media lobbyist to stop. I have seen so many politicians “talk” about the anti-family and anti-christian tv, but don't do anything about it. The media corrupts our children's minds and yet so many conservatives say the economy is most important issue. Not what their children are being taught in school or on TV.... I was lambasted for saying there ARE things more important than money. Our children heart and soul.
kill the tv
Hmm. Interesting. Most every price sheet I've seen from TW has HBO (and all other premiums) at $15 extra per month. In what market do they include it in basic? Just curious.
I never get to participate in these boycotts, because I’m never a subscriber to the things we are supposed to stop subscribing to.
I only have HBO occasionally, when they make a free 3-month offer. They haven’t done that recently.
Read the books! They are so much better than the horrible TV adaption you will never watch it again.
I think the woman who plays the US Atty on Boardwalk Empire is kind of hot. Maybe she will be featured more next season since Paz De La Huerta was cut loose.
Why HAVE it? Most of the programming is nothing but trash anyway. The cost for satellite or cable is overblown. The time spent in front of the idiot box is better spent in other activities.
The positives of a tv-less life far outweigh any illusory ‘positives’ of what passes for entertainment today.
When we first got cable in the 80s, we had HBO, Cinemax and Showtime.
HBO had movies, Cinemax had softcore porn and Showtime was all gay all day.
Didn’t HBO fund and show first “The Sopranos”???
Talk abt a misogynist show...
though I’m sure some guys didn’t mind it, the way women were treated in that show, whether it was “real life” or not, was disgusting...
I dropped HBO 6 months ago.
There's always teh Torrentz.
We’ve all been conned and hoodwinked.
Remember pay TV, commercial free we were all told about 30 years ago?
You’re now paying to watch endless commercials on television, which have already been paid for.
Time Warner/HBO still gets a vig.
I’ll bet HBO is on both packages soooo....not sure it matters other then you saved money. congrats.
My vanity:
If “you” spend money on cable and yet cant at least match that as a contribution to a charity or church...then decide which is more edifying and pick one payment each month. If you are going above and beyond then my warmest regards to you.
Yes, you have a point about “hating women”. Rome was a great series but they used the C word so many times, my wife refused to watch it with me.
I agree. I enjoy the History Channel, Discovery ID, the Military Channel and the Sportsman Channel.
