The activist actor who campaigned against working conditions at Chinese factories that make iPads and iPhones now admits he fabricated much of his "reporting." Mike Daisey went on NPR's This American Life and theater stages and TV talk shows with emotional tales of shocking hardships. Now Tim Minton says moral outrage is against him.

Ah, thanks for the WSJ link. Here is an excerpt:

The episode is also an embarrassment for Mr. Glass. "We never should've put this on the air," he said in the statement. "In the end, this was our mistake."

"This American Life," Mr. Glass added, plans to "devote its entire program this weekend to detailing the errors in the story."

I'll be listening.

They do not see that these workers are far better off working for the evil American capitalist than they ever were working for the socialist governments of their own country.

Actually, they DO see it. Hence the phony "documentaries".

This is standard fare for the left. Sometimes scan my dial and can immediately identify NPR. The smoothy and smarmy delivery with the oh so mellow syrupy voices with babbling brooks and singing birds in the back ground are bad enough; but, when I hear the heavily biased slant on their stories about tortured children in sweat shops or bucolic villages where everyone has cancer because of some evil American company I can’t help but wonder how much longer we are going to accept funding this leftist propaganda.

“Daisey was an IDIOT to even think he could get away with his FRAUD.”

Maybe the pretentiousness, the sense of superiority, the uncontained hubris of the obnoxious left will finally be exposed for the mental illness and sheer adolescence that it is.

IMHO

Actually, they DO see it. Hence the phony "documentaries".

They see it but don’t understand it.

They believe in their ideology to the point that they believe their that propaganda more closely approximates the truth than what they witness with their own eyes.

What this idiot would spend on a Starbucks venti latte would feed a family of four in China for a few days; maybe longer.

Well, in all fairness to the idiot, the Chinese family probably doesn't even care for Starbucks lattes.

The libtards have shown their illingness to lie over and over again

In the internet age it is much easier to question their veracity

I wonder how many stories from the past WENT UNCHECKED

...things we believe as fact, made up by liberals 20,30 or 40 years ago...?

What’s so important about winning these elections and getting government jobs? Oh, that’s right, that’s where the money is. Democrats - Thieves, Thugs, Thralls and Thickheads

Well, maybe the next thing we’ll see is Mike Daisy running around naked in San Diego, masturbating in public and in front of children. Of course he won’t be “arrested”—he’ll just get some “help”.

I remember years ago when there was an uproar over WalMart selling T-shirts made in Honduran sweat factories by women and children.

While the conditions were not up to U.S. factory standards, the reality was that the children and women had a regular source of income that prevented them from having to work in the sugar cane fields with machete's.

I listened to pretty much the entire show when it aired.

I remember thinking at the time, this just sounds a little too “perfect” to be true. He hit every evil capitalist factory oppressor hot button while having the full rostrum of liberal’s dystopian victims.

I had a complete lack of outrage by the end of the show, because I was deeply suspicious. I believed when the truth finally came out, the details would be different than what was portrayed by the “reporter”.

Count me among those who will be listening today. Mmmmm...delicious schadenfreude.

This guy seems to have a history of making bad choices. Here's a quote from his book 21 Dog Years about his time working at Amazon.com:
I was standing onstage in an unheated garage performing Jean Genet's The Balcony as the Bishop, wearing full Catholic regalia, a twelve-pound miter, and Greek cothurni, which are fifteen-inch platform heels. My giant robes were open and I was naked and about to masturbate...
...there I was, exposed, about to begin the speech, when a family walked in. Mother, father, two little girls ...

I just posted a new THREAD about Mike Daisey with a video of a very suspicious "attack" upon himself in 2007 supposedly committed by Christians. Go to that thread and watch the video and post what you think about the "attack." Real or FAKE?

I tracked down some information on the so-called “Christians attacked Mike Daisey” incident. It appears that the video is real- BUT the group was not a “Christian” group- it was a high school choir from California visiting Boston for a competition. In addition, the high school group was lied to when it asked whether the Daisey performance included profanity:

“...One of the audience members who left the production contacted Playbill.com April 24 via e-mail. That correspondence from Natasha Ricketts, a student of Norco High School in Norco, CA, follows:

“I was a student that walked out. I did it because I had to. We aren’t a religious group. We are a high school choir. We called several times and asked about the content [of the show] and whether or not it contained profanity. They lied and said no and that it was no worse than what you hear on TV. I’m sorry to say but on regular TV f*** isn’t a common word. Another thing is before the show, when we heard ‘Turn your f***ing cell phones off or we’ll shove them up your ass,’ [our teacher] went to the stage manager and asked him to pause the show so we could leave, and he refused....”

Daisey lied about this, of course:
