Must be the lynx effect! German Shepherd who has become best pals with wild cat cubs

Could it be the LYNX effect?

The age old feud between cats and dogs seems to have been put to one side as Lilica the German Shepherd becomes inseparable from her feline friends Liza, Viki and male Muro. But what makes this friendship even more unusual is as well as being cats, the cubs are also wild lynxes. Lilica is helping to teach the little cubs how to fend for themselves in the wild as part of a conservation project in the National Park Velka Fatra, Slovakia.

The animals met through a scheme in the country called ‘Return of Lynxes’ aimed at trying to reintroduce the cats into the wild after numbers suffered from hunting. Conservationist and photographer Tomas Hulik said: ‘The first part of the project was that we took two young lynxes, Liza and Munro at the age of five weeks.

The kitten is practicing the neck grab/twist that larger catz use to kill prey. Older catz know to go for the throat crush/asphixiation route after the neck snap.

There is NO WAY I would own or have around any feline that weighed over 10% of my bodyweight. It wouldn't be a fair fight.

Maine Coon Cats... Nice kitty.....Prrrrr!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Coon

“...Maine Coons are one of the largest breeds of domestic cat. Males weigh from 15 to 25 lb (6.8 to 11 kg) with females weighing from 10 to 15 lb (4.5 to 6.8 kg).[17] The height of adults can vary between 10 and 16 in (25 and 41 cm) and they can reach a length of up to 40 in (100 cm), including the tail, which can reach a length of 14 in (36 cm)[18] and is long, tapering, and heavily furred, almost resembling a raccoon’s tail. The body is solid and muscular, which is necessary for supporting their own weight, and the chest is broad. Maine Coons possess a rectangular body shape and are slow to physically mature; their full potential size is normally not reached until they are three to five years old, while other cats take about only one year.[19]

In 2010, the Guinness World Records accepted a male purebred Maine Coon named “Stewie” as the “Longest Cat” measuring 48.5 in (123 cm) from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.[20][21]...”

Cassie was a housecat/bobcat cross, much like a maine coon.

But she had 7 toes on each front paw. Tufts on the ears, bob tail.

If required, I could have crushed her while I was having a heart attack and she was watching and waiting for fresh meat.

I love my catz. Dearly. Food, fresh water and litter, keep 'em inside to keep them safe. But if the SHTF, they go outside before the second nuke hits.

You can't tell me they wouldn't do the same.

“Lilica is helping to teach the little cubs how to fend for themselves in the wild as part of a conservation project in the National Park Velka Fatra, Slovakia. “

As awesome as German Shepherds are, they are not lynxes. Lilica is incapable of teaching lynxes how to be lynxes.

I’m sure she is determined to mold them into good little German Shepherds, however.

My very intelligent ladylike German Shepard Mix is good with cats normally, my other dog a happy Boxer-Beagle mix, only loves that they make funny noises when dragged across the floor.

I wonder if step-mother Shepherd has taught her three charges about the benefits of chewing on shoes. There is a shoe in the background... :)

I hate to say this, but did you see the comments? The dog is dead and has been for a while. Such a shame.

Sweet dog and kitties.

With tuffed ears and bob tail, it sounds like a Manx. They are really neat cats....and born with the bob tail. I think they are the only breed that has a bobtail...My father brought one home for my mom when I was a kid...he was a mounted policeman and they had barn cats in the stables..One cat had a litter and one was a ManX. Must have been a throwback to earlier genetics with the mom and dad cat, the rest of the litter were just cats....
