Florida atheists ‘unbless’ highway with ‘unholy water’

LAKELAND, Fla. – A group of atheists in Florida spent part of their weekend washing away a blessing placed upon a local highway by a religious group.

Armed with brooms, mops and "unholy water," the atheists gathered Saturday to symbolically clean up holy oil that Polk Under Prayer put down on Highway 98 near the Pasco-Polk county line last year, Bay News 9 reported.

"We come in peace," Humanists of Florida director Mark Palmer announced before he and members of other atheist organizations launched their cleanup.

My dearest friend is high standing admin in the James Randi foundation. I am friends with many many atheist just from knowing her and everyone I know would laugh hysterically at this garbage

I used to debate at the JREF Forum for many years. Spend a little time there and you might change your opinion. Some may think it's silly, but a lot of them love this kind of stuff.

I guess my experience is more with the founders and Presidents rather than the members.

That was my point. I know there are plenty of anti-Christian zealots who call themselves atheist. However, the more educated amongst them find it silly and actually hurts the purpose. Cause it just looks stupid.

The unblessing project, he explained, was "not about atheist rights" but about "welcoming everybody into Polk County."

Doesn't sound very welcoming.

Once again though, atheists are confirming the existance of what they demand does not exist.

If some ROPer were to declare the highway under the control of a genie (jin), I would not spend my weekend trying to get the genie to leave. If I did do such a thing, you would have to assume that I believed in genies.

So thank you atheists, for the affirmation.

B.C.E. Before the common era. A.C.E. After the common era.

I enjoy interrupting people who use these to ask them what the basis of zero is. After a little persistence, they will finally state that it is Christ's life. Then I ask them why they insist on rewriting history to exclude an underlying element, would they do this if the time-line was based on Alexander the Great or the first emperor of China?

Since these flakes do not believe in God then why do they believe in Blessings?
They must, since they believed that the highway they were at had been Blessed and it needed to be removed.
What maroons...........

B.C.E. Before the common era.

A.C.E. After the common era.

How Common of them!

I always read B.C.E. as Before Christian Era.

I've never heard of A.C.E. being used, but C.E., which I always read as Christian Era.

The negative proves the positive. But hey, this is post-enlightenment. Who has any use for logic?

It would be interesting to gather data on wrecks, drunk driving, injuries, fatalities, etc. for the period from the road blessing until the unblessing, then track prospectively the same data to see if the unblessing led to an increase in the above.

Sadie: I curse you! I curse you with bad luck!

Humanist: I don't believe in curses, therefore I am not cursed.

Sadie: Are to.

Humanist: Am not.

Sadie: Are to.

Humanist: Curses don't exist!

Sadie: Do to.

Humanist: Well then, I undo your curse with my anti-curse hex!

Sadie: There is no anti-curse hex!

Humanist: Is to.

Sadie: Why would you anti-curse hex my curse if curses are not real? Huh! Explain that!

Humanist: I did it just in case...of...

Sadie: See. They are real. Even you believe in it. And now, I re-curse you! So there!

Humanist: You can't re-curse!

Sadie: Then you can't anti-curse hex!

Mother: Kids! Stop fighting and play nice.

I enjoy interrupting people who use these to ask them what the basis of zero is.

My ninth grade son's East Hem teacher (who is Jewish) always references dates as BC/AD, in spite of the class textbooks, which use the BCE/CE nonsense. On the first day of class she explained it just as you did, and instructed the students that she expects them to use BC/AD. "I'm here to teach you history, not to teach you how to rewrite history." In a public school, no less.

Funniest Steve Martin song in a really long time and appropriate for this thread.

“Atheist don’t have no songs”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wogta8alHiU

Part of the song:

(Christians have)
Christians have their hymns and pages.
(Hymns and pages)
Hava Nagila’s for the Jews.
(For the Jews)
Baptists have the rock of ages.
(Rock of ages)
Atheists just sing the blues.

(Romantics play)
Romantics play Claire de Lune.
(Claire de Lune)
Born agains sing He is risen.
But no one ever wrote a tune.
(Wrote a tune)
For godless existentialism.
(For godless existentialism)

For Atheists,
There’s no good news.
They’ll never sing,
A song of faith.

In their songs,
They have a rule.
The “he” is always lowercase.
The “he” is always lowercase.
