Like clockwork: Let the iPad overheating FUD begin

“According to early user reports, the new iPad may be prone to becoming physically warm during use, especially in the lower left-hand corner when holding the iPad upright in portrait mode,” Gilbert writes. “The question of whether the iPad has a temperature problem has been asked on both the Apple Discussion Boards and in the MacRumors forums, and articles on CNET, The Next Web and Gizmodo have all brought unwanted attention to the new iPad’s heat.”

Gilbert writes, “Apple did not immediately respond to request for comment. Until then, we will continue to monitor the iPad’s hotness, both in consumer demand and physical, perhaps discomforting, warmth.”

MacDailyNews Take: Can’t compete? Spread ******** that will ultimately have no impact on Apple nor assuage the pain of your abject failure. Like Mac Cube mold lines termed “cracks,” iPod “scratches,” iPhone antennas, Chinese labor, iPhone antennas again (try and try again and fail both times), trojans misrepresented as “viruses,” etc., this is nothing more than white noise ....

Had mine for 2 years. The only time it gets warm is if I leave it in the sun. Most reliable computing machine I’ve ever owned. Period

Nonsense from the usual suspects. I will be buying one next week.

My Mac Book Air has the same heating on the upper left hand corner, but I have had several other PC laptops that also can get uncomfortably warm during use. I think this is just the nature of the Li-Ion battery.

Boy, that is true ... it's truly amazing how how that little puppy will get in the sunshine. But, overall I concur with you 100%. I was one of the 'foolish' ones who pre-ordered the origional iPad at 6am on the first day it came out for pre-ordering. I was also among the first to open the box and begin using it. I never leave home without it. It's my standard accessory that I simply "Must Have" when I travel.

I got myself a Kindle Fire. The iPad is cool but for me too big to comfortably use as a reader. I also have a First generation Kindle and a Second generation Ipod touch.

None of my devices get hot to the touch unless left in the sun as others have mentioned.

I’ll admit when I first got it I thought it would be an expensive piece of electronic jewelry. Now I do not leave the house without it.

It’s indispensable for work.

Hot? As in flying off the shelves? My iPhone will get warm when streaming for long periods over 3G, but my iPad 2 has always been “normal” no matter the use.

Just curious on this one.

Me, I use it for email, web surfing, entertainment when I travel (movies, music, games) and have read upwards of 20 books on it. For what I use it for, I see no reason to upgrade - and if I had tons of dispoable cash, I’d probably just go with the iPad2. But for what I use it for, it’s perfectly adequate. I can stand to wait 5 seconds for a movie to launch, it really doesn’t bother me.

How about you? Any need to upgrade, and if so would you hop on the iPad2 or 3?

Depends

The iPad is great for data consumption, (viewing videos, listening to music, browsing the web), the Mac is great for data production, (term papers, spread sheets, book reports, presentations).

So it just depends on what her main tasks will be.

What does she do with it? for chatting, web surfing, text books, the ipad is superior to a computer in every way. Better screen, longer battery life, and surfing is far faster.

If she does computer specific tasks, like running special applications, then a computer is the way to go.

Wife has a Dell laptop, she got an ipad for work just a few weeks ago. The Dell now resides in her office. And with Microsoft releasing OFFICE for the ipad soon, it will do it all.

It all depends on the desired uses - if it’s going to be used heavlily for word processing, spreadsheets, etc- desktop or portable/laptop (not netbook) is still the way to go... For me - the iPad is not a total replacement for a computer - but this latest iPad is getting closer to a laptop replacement.
