CLINTONVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- ...
The strange disturbance sounds like distant thunder, fireworks or someone slamming a heavy door. At first, many people were amused or merely curious. But after three restless nights, aggravation is mounting. And some folks are considering leaving town until investigators determine the source of the racket.
There have been no reports of injury or damage, despite some residents saying they could feel the ground roll beneath their feet.
City officials say they have investigated every possible human cause. They checked water, sewer and gas lines, contacted the military about any exercises in the area, reviewed permits for mining explosives and inspected a dam next to city hall. They even tested methane levels at the landfill in case the gas was spontaneously exploding.
"People in the area are certainly frustrated," City Administrator Lisa Kuss said.
The city is also investigating geological causes. Officials plan to bring in vibration-detection devices to try to determine the epicenter of any underground activity.

Any fracking going on nearby?
And isn't wisconsin the place where an entire town blew up or something a hundred years ago? Strange place.
I heard about this on the radio today.
THose sounds have been happening for years off the coast of North Carolina. I remember the old timers telling us the “booms” were the sounds of Blackbeard’s ghost firing his cannon, still fighting the colonials.
Unless it sounds like trumpets.....
Or, perhaps, the CIA is building yet another underground city there.
It wasn’t me! Honest!
Clintonville Wi is where Seagrave Fire Apparatus are made. They are a favorite of FDNY.
Those booms off the North Carolina coast are classified according to the “F” scale...
We tried really hard to create “H” booms, but could never get our “Hogs” out of MCAS New River much above 200mph...
Ponygirl, we used to live at Carolina Beach right at Snow’s Cut. We would hear the booms all the time. Nobody ever knew what they were as far as I know. It would rattle the windows.

This may be a harbinger of things to come.
It’s HAARP activity. They’re prepping for the big New Madrid fault quake just before the elections.
And the booming sounds have been heard there for centuries, at least according to the tale of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving. As you'll recall, Rip came upon some ghostly Dutchmen said to be Henry Hudson's ship's crew playing 9-pins accompanied by deafening sounds when they rolled the ball. After drinking their liquor Rip passed out and slept for 20 years. Returning to town he re-told the story of his strange adventure many times.
Writes Irving: "Some always pretended to doubt the reality of it, and insisted that Rip had been out of his head, and that this was one point on which he always remained flighty.
"The old Dutch inhabitants, however, almost universally gave it full credit. Even to this day they never hear a thunderstorm of a summer afternoon about the Kaatskill, but they say Hendrick Hudson and his crew are at their game of nine-pins; and it is a common wish of all hen-pecked husbands in the neighborhood, when life hangs heavy on their hands, that they might have a quieting draught out of Rip Van Winkle's flagon."
Come on people, put two and two together.............Just saying.
