Jets QB Drew Stanton wants out

Tim Tebow's arrival in New York already has upset one New York Jets quarterback -- Drew Stanton.

The veteran backup, who signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract last Friday to be the No. 2 quarterback, has asked to be traded or released, a league source confirmed to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jets are currently trying to trade Stanton, a source said.

Stanton is said to be unhappy because he was promised the No. 2 job and turned down more lucrative opportunities with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs to play for the Jets. He received a $500,000 signing bonus, but he could have a hard time finding a new team because the backup jobs are filling up.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum confirmed earlier this week that Stanton was to be Mark Sanchez's primary backup, but the Jets changed the plan when they acquired Tebow late Wednesday night in a trade with the Denver Broncos.

"Tim is our backup quarterback. Mark is our starter," Tannenbaum said Thursday morning on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning."

Yes Khan could throw out the tarps if he had Tebow there. But his football people, the GM and Coach did not want Tebow.

I am a huge Broncos fan and a huge Tebow fan. He is a terrific guy and a great football player but a lousy QB.

I am ecstatic we have Manning now. I wish Tebow could have stayed on and been developed if possible but I am not at all sorry to see his cult like drones move on.

No chance of me eating words on the last part though. The NFL and the Broncos are filled with outspoken religious people. That is a fact. Coaches and players and it’s been that way for a long time.

You don’t need much o-line protection for a 3 step drop, and when Tebow tries those he misses. Could his o-line be better? Sure. Is that why his completion percentage is under 50? No.

When Manning trots out on the field for the first game in Orange and Blue, it will be a year and a half since he was in an NFL game. He’ll be 36 1/2 years old, perhaps vulnerable to reinjury with a so-so offensive line and looking back on a 5 1/2 year stretch in which he won exactly 2 (two) playoff games.

I kind of understand what Elway did, but it was not necessarily brilliant. I am not at all convinced Manning will be the quarterback he once was...... Time will tell.

If Manning goes down, the Broncos will have a BIG disaster on their hands.

I've never been a Bronco fan but was one this year because of Tebow.

I kept drooling over the Broncos using Manning and Tebow in the same backfield running a wildcat formation. I think it could have been unstoppable.

Alas, not to be. My Bronco days are behind me. Last time I was a Jets fan was in Namath days.

I just took a look at a Broncos discussion board.

Man is it heated over there!

There are two camps, and they are widely divided:
- Tebow fans who are very ticked off at Elway
- People who are glad to see the Tebow “circus” leave

They’re both wrong:
- The Broncos have under-average receivers and a weak offensive line. Elway needed a better QB to make up for their poor performance. And Elway gave Tebow the choice of JAX or Jets. It was strictly business.
- As a Viking fan, I found the Brett Farve circus to be one of the low points in the history of football. What is Brett doing in the off-season? will he choose to re-sign? And the ultimate embarassment: the “Farve-cam”. Yeah Broncos fans, enjoy your aging mid-life QB crisis and the embarassing soap opera that goes with it. You Bronco fans will soon find out what a real “circus” is.

Just listened to a caller on the radio, didn’t like Tebow at all, so “relieved” that Tebow is gone. People fall out, it seems, either really liking him, or really disliking him.

I agree.

The NFL is a passing league now,,,,not sure what the are gonna do with so many collge teams developing QB's of the style of Tebow.

I’ve been a Jets fan since, well since they were the Titans. I sat on the 48-yard line, seven rows off the field when they beat Oakland in the 1968 AFC Championship game. Joe Namath NEVER played a game at Shea Stadium that I wasn’t sitting in the stands for.

I think acquisition of Tim Tebow is an absolute PLUS-PLUS for the Jets. In fact, there are NO legitimate negatives to this deal.

I can go on a long diatribe right now about the merits of this trade, the statistics, the facts, the hyperbole, etc., but I shan’t. Instead, I just want to ask the following question to my fellow Jets fans:

It’s third-and-one with two minutes left in a close game. Which quarterback would you trust to get you that one yard, Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow?

“The receivers blowing 4 or 5 catchable balls a game still leaves him with a dozen incompletions a game and it would barely tick his percentage over 50%.”

You are very bad at math. Tim Tebow has played in 23 regular season games as a pro. In those 23 games, he has completed 167 passes out of 353 attempts (47.3%). That is an average of 8 incompletions per game.

Now, if you consider 4-5 catchable passes dropped per game, and assume even half (2-3 per game) would’ve been caught by better receivers, then that would have resulted in another 46-58 passes caught, resulting in a completion percentage of 60-63%.

I heard Steve Young’s view io this Sanchez/Tebow relationship and his with Joe Montana, this AM.
It made more sense to me than all the other chatter that I’ve heard.
His comments were, to paraphrase: Joe hated to have him around competing as back-up. They each wanted more snaps they pressured each other and Steve thinks his years behind Joe benefited him. He mention Joe, like Sanchez, was a laid back California Dude and didn’t want to work hard until they were pressing one another.
I believe he thinks that Ryan made this move to push Sanchez.

It is why Manning will be back in an MRI unit before December.

I disagree. Elway made it clear last season that he didn’t like Tebow, didn’t want him on the team, and was stuck with him. Elway is a vindictive, small minded man. His first years in the pros were SO BAD they should have laughed him out of the league. It is perfectly feasible to think that Elway, given the opportunity to dump on Tebow, would make sure the trade damaged him. I hope the broncos finish last forever. And I hope Elway is driven out of town on a rail!

“When on a 3 step drop you miss an open receiver by 5 yards that’s not the o-line or the receivers, that’s the QB. The minute he got drafted his college number meant nothing, he’s now a PROFESSIONAL football player and gets paid to put up numbers in the NFL. Again just like normal world professions, college don’t mean a thing once you’re a pro.”

Well, in his 2nd year as a pro, Tebow took over a 1-4 team, and took them to the 2nd round of the playoffs - that’s better than 24 other pro quarterbacks in the league were able to do last year...

Week 19 vs Pats 17 incompletions.
Week 18 vs Steelers 11
Week 17 16
16 again
Only 11 against the Pats in the regular season
19 against Chicago.

Adding 4 or 5 completions to those games really doesn’t help his completion percentage very well. Yeah there’s a few games where it would have a dramatic effect, week 13 vs Minn where he went 10 of 15, week 10 vs KC 2 of 8. But there are more games like week 8 vs Detroit where he went 18 of 39 where a “gift” of 4 or 5 still leaves him with a lousy performance. And it’s probable that in those games with few receptions the receivers didn’t drop 4 or 5.

That might be, but they AREN’T why Tebow has a 47.3 completion percentage.

He took them to an 8-8 record where they got to the playoffs because their division is horrible. Let’s keep it real here, if the Raiders or Chargers manage to win one more game no playoffs. Went to KC, a team so bad they’d already fired their coach, with a win and you’re in situation and completed 6 passes.

He’s a nice guy, but he is not a good QB. He might improve but the current stats say he’s a bad QB. He can’t read defenses, he can’t do timing passes, he can’t hit open receivers. And the fact that people gotta go waving around his college numbers shows something. Not many other discussions about players that have been in the NFL 2 years involve their college numbers.

Tebow not making money?

The real idiot is the new owner of the Jags!

With Tebow’s popularity in Florida and the Jags lousy record for years of never filling our stadium....they could have paid Tebow a $20 million dollar signing bonus and made that up the first year he played in ticket sales and merchandise!
Khan is supposed to be a brilliant busnessman..yeah, right.

"Finally, let’s not forget that Tebow has one of the highest overall IQ’s of all QB’s and has by far and away the greatest work ethic."

You could also make a strong argument that Tebow is the best overall athelete of any NFL QB.
