90-year-old assault victim Bob Strait released from hospital

The surviving victim from last weeks brutal home invasion and beating is out of the hospital.

90-year-old Bob Strait is home with family members.

He suffered serious injuries during the incident, but his wife Nancy died.

Family members say Bob Strait is recovering physically, but emotionally his wounds are deep and he says he never wants to go back to the home he and his wife shared for more than 40 years.

"When I was holding his hand you could tell he was shaking on the inside, he was scared and when we asked him yesterday if he was ready to go home, he thought he was going home," said Strait's daughter, Lanora.

The couple was ambushed and robbed last week in their north Tulsa home.

Police have one suspect in custody, 21 year old Tyrone Woodfork, he's facing 1st degree murder charges among others.

The result of the attack left Bob Strait with a broken jaw, internal bleeding and bb gun wounds. His wife Nancy didn't survive her injuries.

"After he found out she was gone, we brought her in to him, and turned her to where he couldn't see her bad side and he held her hand for quite awhile and all he could say was I loved that old woman, I loved that old woman for so long," said Lanora.

The couple had been married for more than 65 years and Lanora doesn't know if her dad will be able to survive much longer without his soul mate.

"Now that she's gone, I don't know, I don't expect much, I hope for it but I don't expect it," said Lanora.

At this point police are still investigating, they say there could be more suspects still on the loose.

Family members are hopeful they will be caught, so something like this doesn't happen to anyone else.

"No not like this, no one should take your parents away or anybody away from you and one thing I've learned you want to let the people that you love, know that you love them, because you don't know if you are going to see them again tomorrow," said Lanora.

The memorial service for Nancy strait will be Friday at 12:30 at Floral Haven. There will be a viewing Thursday at noon.

This is such a heartbreaking story that it made me cry. I cannot imagine what this poor man went through and now has to face. It is one thing to lose your spouse to disease but to lose one so viciously and violently... Prayers for this man.

An 85-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and battered to death by a home invader who also shot her 90-year-old husband in the face with a BB gun. Nancy and Bob Strait, who had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December, were discovered by their daughter at their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Both the pensioners were rushed to hospital where Mrs Strait, who was nearly blind, died from her injuries.

Mr Strait, who served in the 101st Airborne Division in World War II, suffered a broken jaw, broken ribs and severe bleeding. He is in a serious condition in hospital. Police have arrested 20-year-old Tyrone Dale David Woodfork in connection with the case.

The home invaders made off with their Dodge Neon, a television and $200. Woodfork was later found hiding in a nearby house after a witness spotted the stolen vehicle being driven down the road.

Bob Strait was born in 1922. I can see Mr. Strait growing up in depression, dust bowl era Oklahoma. Real poor by any of today’s standards, but living a happy life, I like to think, all the same.

I imagine him as a 21 year old in the 101st Airborne, sitting on a steel bench in a plane waiting to jump. The darkness, the anti-aircraft explosions, waiting to jump into something terrifying.

He’s fortunate and he survives. He marries Nancy, they raise six children. The couple work, they contribute to their church and neighborhood. They live a modest and I’m suspecting, a happy life.

These two people represent the absolute core of what made this country. They are the diametric opposite of both the killer and a large swath of the people now in apparent control of this country.

Bob is alive, but both lives effectively ended when this unfathomable evil savagery wanted their 12 year old car and a television.

I’m a northerner, but I’m certain this would never have happened during the Jim Crow south. This country seems headed to a very bad end.

It was reported that the couple were just getting over the flu and were very weak.
They were also unable to care for themselves any longer and were due to be sent to a nursing home the next day.

Can you just imagine how that sweet 85 year old lady must have suffered being beaten and raped?
She was probably gang raped repeatedly...but we’ll never hear that in the news.

Can you just imagine how the 90 year old husband must have suffered seeing his dear wife raped before his eyes?

I hope they catch all of the feral gang of animals who did this, imprison them and their fellow inmates torture and kill them.
