My friend Jonathan Capehart, an editorial board member and opinion writer for The Washington Post, laid bare the “grisly” facts we are just now coming to terms with in the killing of Trayvon Martin:
“An overzealous neighborhood watch captain in an SUV armed with a 9-mm handgun. A 17-year-old boy armed with an iced tea and a bag of Skittles. We know from [George] Zimmerman’s 911 call that he thought [Trayvon] Martin was “a real suspicious guy” who “looks like he’s up to no good or he’s on drugs or something.”
And now we have some insight into Trayvon’s mindset at the time.
“He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man,” said Trayvon’s girlfriend, who was talking with him on his cell phone during the start of the incident. In an exclusive ABC News report, she discussed the confrontation in answer to questions from the Martin family attorney. “I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run but he said he was not going to run.” Eventually he would run, said the girl, thinking that he’d managed to escape. But suddenly the strange man was back, cornering Martin.”
“Trayvon said, ‘What, are you following me for,’ and the man said, ‘What are you doing here.’ Next thing I hear is somebody pushing, and somebody pushed Trayvon because the head set just fell. I called him again and he didn’t answer the phone.”
That’s because Trayvon was dead of a single gunshot wound to his chest.”

As the father of two sons, my heart sank at learning of the circumstances surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin.

Better be careful on this. More attention to attacks on black males can lead to more attention to attack on whites.
Right now the media is at about 90% on white on black crimes, but only at 10% on black on white crimes.

They were the white teenage couple in Knoxville kidnapped, raped, tortured and killed by three blacks in 2007.
You didn’t see any demonstrations on their behalf. You certainly didn’t see a “hoodie” parade. This was a squelched story by the main stream media for fear of massive race riots.
Here’s what had happened to them, according to WIKI:
According to the testimony of the Knox County Acting Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan at the subsequent trial of Eric Boyd, Newsom was repeatedly sodomized with an object and then blindfolded, gagged, arms and feet bound and his head covered. Barefoot, he was either led or dragged outside the house to a set of nearby railroad tracks. He was shot in the back of the head, the neck, and the back, and his body then set on fire.
Channon’s death came only after hours of sexual torture, medical examiner Mileusnic-Polchan testified. Channon suffered horrific injuries to her vagina, anus and mouth. She was not only raped but savaged with “an object,” possibly a broken chair leg, the doctor testified. She was beaten in the head. Some type of chemical was poured down her throat, and her body, including her bleeding and battered genital area, likely scrubbed with the same solution - all while Channon was alive, the forensic expert said. She was then “hog-tied,” with curtains and strips of bedding, her face covered tightly with a small trash bag and her body stashed inside five large trash bags before being placed inside a large trash can and covered with sheets. Channon died slowly, suffocating, the medical examiner said.
The perps were granted new trials last December because of judicial misconduct.
Before we get sobby about Trayvon Martin, better review the Knoxville outrages.
I am waiting for the evidence that race was the determining factor here. Also, the fact the shooter is a minority makes this all the more bizarre.
This case is a tragedy and Zimmerman seems to bear some responsibility, but this is being turned into something it is not.
Now this is being turned into a cultural lynching of Zimmerman, and I predict we may see riots over this.
I guess we’re now supposed to see a war between hispanics and blacks? Many people don’t seem to see what this is being turned into and why.
Would black people care about this case if the victim was white? Don’t think so.

The real *facts* haven’t come out yet, from the Police Report and other investigators, according to what I’ve read. There is more to this than the initial, race-biased news reports.

And the people who encourage that attitude are worse.
It is odd that Michael Steele didn’t bother to mention that Zimmerman is hispanic, but did mention the race of the three WHITE boys in the Mississippi attack.
Also, how many black boys were killed by other black boys on the weekend that Martin was kiled by Zimmerman? Is Steele prepared to cry about the inherent racism of blacks thinking that the lives of other blacks are worth a pair of shoes or that their culture tells them to avenge a “diss” with “busting some caps”?
Is Steele just trying to get his “black cred” back after being at the helm of the RNC (which most BET viewers would see as a racist organization because the DNC told them so)?
They’ll play down the Hispanic aspects. He’s got a white sounding name, that’s enough.
This is their Rodney King Moment. Never mind if they instigate riots and dozens die, etc. Just like they never took the blame for that, they won’t here either. It was be everyone else’s fault.

That’s the real unanswered question here. If ol’ Trayvon, the undoubted pillar of society being what he was, was killed by some thugs in a drive-by, would his name even be in the papers beyond a mere mention of more random violence? I don’t think so.
The fact that a non-black, legally-armed guy did it is what makes this such a supposed outrage.
BET says since a Black has been elected they are worse off.

Doesn't matter what either race is...it really doesn't. Color them both black, or white, or hispanic...and then play the story.
What matter is one of them got shot in a fight. Like this doesn't happen in every city on a daily.
This is a diversion from the election and why Obama wighed in....He's the one fueling this race issue and wants to divide this country.....Obama and his supporters aren't looking for the truth or showing compassion, they are playing politics as hard as they can.
As one commentator said..."Imagine a white kid getting killed by a Hispanic guy, And Bush said, "My son would look like..." .......The liberal press would go ballistic.
Obama is playing the race card and fueling others like Farrachan and others to make it an issue along with the media who wants a race story....AGAIN!
Yup and to think we have been pay them reparations for close to 50 years and they still aint happy
