Geraldo Rivera’s son: I’m ‘ashamed’ of my father’s remarks about Trayvon Martin and his hoodie

Rivera created a firestorm earlier this week when he argued the hoodie the unarmed teen chose to wear when he was killed in Florida was as much to blame for his death as the man that shot him

Even Geraldo Rivera's son is disappointed in his father's controversial remarks about Trayvon Martin.

"My own son just wrote to say he's ashamed of my position," the Fox News contributor tweeted on Friday.

Rivera created a firestorm earlier this week when he argued the hoodie the unarmed teen chose to wear when he was killed in Florida was as much to blame for his death as the man that shot him.

Despite his own family's harsh criticism, Rivera refused to budge on his position, adding on Twitter "Still I feel parents must do whatever they can to keep their kids safe."

Rivera elaborated on his 32-year-old son's shame to Politico.

"Gabriel broke my heart…He just told me for the first time in his life he's ashamed," he told the political website, adding his son told him he had "gone viral for all the wrong reasons."

Rivera said he wrote Gabriel back and tried to explain his position that "every hoodie should come with a warning like cigarettes, 'caution wearing this could get you killed.'"

Martin, 17, was shot and killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla. He was returning home from a trip to a convenience store when neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman started following the teen, telling police dispatchers that he looked suspicious.

After I posted that, several individuals posted stuff about how big and bad Trayvon had become since the wimpy photo was taken; and how he broke whatzizface’s nose, how theree was only one spent cartridge, still in the chamber of the semi-auto pistol,etc....all new things that NOBODY even HINTED at this past week when everyone has been hyper-ventilating over the case.

So I don’t know how much of it is true, if any. All I know is what I see in that photo, and I see a weepy-looking little pantywaist. There was another photo purporting to show the monster Trayvon has grown up to become. But after seeing some of the Photoshop jobs on FR over the years, I wouldn’t believe any of it. My Mama didn’t name me Thomas for nothing!

There a couple of Facebooks Trayvon Martins: one from Georgia, one from Chicago.

One that does appear to be recent and genuine was released by the local TV station after the incident. Definately the same kid, just older, and still skinny.

Anyone that suggests that people wearing “Hoodies” should be “questioned by the police” or they freak out at the sight of one are the same people that will turn you in to the Gestapo for something THEY deem ‘innapropiate’.

I wear one nearly every day from fall to spring. Very comfortable and they keep my hands and head warm. Plus, the front pocket is a great place to carry tools, etc. when I’m doing chores.

I do have to admit something and I might as well fess up here on FReeRepublic. Here goes. My grandaughters bought me one for Christmas a few years ago and after putting it on I broke into my neighbors house and stole all their new presents and slashed their tires. I couldn’t help myself! I went totally out of control! Thankfully, my family wrestled me to the ground and ripped the dreaded Hoodie from my body before I killed someone!

No offense but you’re a bit of an idiot. You do not know anything about me or my life and have not read any of my remarks about hoodies in context. I will assume that you are someone who either lives in rural or suburban America and knows absolutely nothing about life in urban jungles. I’d love to walk you through a rough neighborhood in NYC at midnight to see your “paranoid” reaction to men in hoodies.

So I take it, you’re turning me down for a midnight walk in a rough neighborhood? Some people actually live in those neighborhoods - I did for a period of my life and came to understand style of dress and attitude among decent working-class people and thugs. It’s not a lesson I want to unlearn because a hick like you thinks I’m “paranoid”!

You seem more than familiar with the midnight street life in the big city.

The only people I’ve seen walking the streets at that hour are as follows:

#1: Prostitutes
#2: Pimps
#3: Drug dealers
#4: Drug addicts

Need I ask?

I wouldn’t live in some slimy urban jungle and I wouldn’t walk around one at night. I live somewhere that I feel safe day and night. If you choose to live amongst the animals, that’s your choice. I prefer low crime areas.

I think you may be underestimating the Power and the Fear of the Hoodie.

If you see someone walking down the street wearing a hoodie, it could some kid walking home, it could be some gangbanger on his way to blast away at a suburban home or it could be a grandfather out for a walk.

It is up to our highly trusted neighborhood watch Captains and enforcement officials to determine the motives of the wearer of the Hoodie.

Geraldo is first of all, Hispanic. And the shooter, in this instance, Jorge Zimmerman, also LOOKS Hispanic.

There is no such thing as a person who "looks Hispanic." It's just a media and leftist stereotype. Nor is there any such thing as "people of color," since all humans, except albinos, have melanin in their skin to some extent or another; the proper term (reading into the mind of the ignorant who use it) is "non-whites" or "non-Caucasians." (That's more than mere semantics, because changing the vocabulary can change the society, as tyrants like Hitler and Lenin and Stalin and countless others knew.)

Hispanics (defined as people whose native or ancestral language is Spanish, but sometimes extended to people whose native or ancestral language is Portuguese) can be white, black, American Indian, or even Oriental looking, or any possible combination of these. The populations of Spanish-speaking countries are generally very diverse racially, and yes, there is racial tension among the various groups in those countries.

For the record, both Geraldo Rivera and George Zimmerman are half-Hispanic and half-white European in ancestry.

Even though Rivera is often obnoxious, he specifically stated Friday on his radio show that from a strict legal perspective, the only possible verdict in the Zimmerman case was NOT GUILTY.

For the record, both Geraldo Rivera and George Zimmerman are half-Hispanic and half-white European in ancestry.

Zimmerman's mother was born in Peru and her great grandfather was Black African.

Zimmerman's father had German ancestry on his father's side, but his mother was the daughter of Mariono Brull, a lawyer and poet from Cuba, and Adelaida Baralt Zacharie, who's father was Luis Alejandro Baralt y Peoli, born in Santiago, Cuba. The paternal grandparents of Luis were from Barcelona, Spain and Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Heraldo is first of all, Hispanic.

Geraldo is about as Hispanic as your Aunt Tilly. He was born to a Jewish mother and and a Puerto Rican dad. "Jerry Rivers" "discovered his roots" when he switched from Keft Wing Law to News Reporter It worked, he got hired, he was a disaster, but married the boss' daughter. His freshman Spanish is execrable, especially with that obnoxo NYC Queens Accent.

He is an attorney, and attended the NY State Merchant Marine Academy, where he did learn to sail, which is the only good thing I can think to say about him. He is an interesting guy who cynically worked the Left ... and now wants to run as a Republican, because no one on his side takes him seriously.

The thing with the hoodie is plain stupid. Instead of sympathizing with the gang-banging morons, some one like Obama or Holder really ought to level with the young Negro bastards who are causing so much trouble. They're victims OK, victims of an idiotic commercial culture. Tattoos, weird, expensive clothes, made up ghetto names, tribal criminality, it all makes them legends in their own minds, stars in their own movie, in the meantime they can neither read nor write, or be understood by anyone outside their group.

Encouraged by the likes of Obama, too many of them die at the hands of other Negro morons. Unfortunately when they act outside of their own milieu, they will also suffer at the hands of people outside of their bogus culture. The score is going to be tough guy ghetto wannabes '0,' Armed America one hell of a lot more.

A pity. And unnecessary.

......Hispanics (defined as people whose native or ancestral language is Spanish ....

Close but no Affirmative Action cigar for you, mi hearty bucko. Spaniards, Argentines, Chileans may ... or may not ... be defined as "Hispanics" for certain governmental purposes, unless brown enough to pass a bureaucrat's subjective standards. It is actually suggested that the "Hispanic" standard they adopt is the "color of a brown paper bag!" I kid you not. I got a pal from Peru who is from a Japanese family. Dear o Dear, is he "Hispanic?"

Ah, but there's more. According to the rules of your government, any Puerto Rican, whether they be whiter than Mrs. Tiger Woods, or blacker than Louis Armstrong shall be automatically deemed an "Hispanic." Ditto Mexicans, Central Americans, etc.etc.

Someone ought to explain this bureaucratic phenomenon to Rubio, or that fool Gomez up in Massholia. You see fellows, both of you are suspiciously white for the bureaucratic "Hispanic" label.

Now George Zimmerman, he's an Hispanic, but he's got that inconvenient last name. Get out the paper bag.

If the King of Spain were applying for a Sec 8 apartment, food stamps, or welfare, or your job, he very well might not be counted as "Hispanic." Penelope Cruz with a deep suntan .....well, maybe. Depends.

Geraldo...just shut up you twit.

The only thing "responsible," for Trayvon's death was his beating of Zimmerman. That was a choice he made.

Zimmerman shot him because he was being beaten to within an inch of his life and knew if Martin got the gun he would kill him. As he said, "I was out of time."

Trayvon decided to turn around in the night and hunt down Zimmerman. He then sucker punched him, breaking his nose, and then when Zimmerman went down, he climbed on top and began beating him mercilessly.

Zimmerman ultimately defended himself and Trayvon died.

Sad...even tragic...but not unwarranted, and not based on his "hoodie," being bad, or Zimmerman being bad. The only one who did anything "bad," in this confrontation was Trayvon Martin.

And the jury was smart enough to see it clearly and not be swayed by a punch of hypotheticals (which themselves only introduced more doubt) and emotion from the prosecutor...because that was all the prosecutor had.

ZIMMERMAN IS NOT GUILTY
