Word For The Day, Thursday, March 29, 2012 - catechize
dictionaries ad nauseam | 29 March 2012 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

catechize \KAT-i-kahyz\, verb
1. To question closely.
2. To instruct orally by means of questions and answers, especially in Christian doctrine.
3. To question with reference to belief.

Example sentences:
He sent her off when the dial made it five o'clock every fourth Sunday—for we had service only once a month, the parson having a church at Brampton, where he lived, and another as well, which made it the more wicked of us to play truant—but whether she got there early or late, or got there at all, he'd never ask, let alone catechize her about the sermon.
-- Mary Webb, Precious Bane

Aunt Bessie tried to catechize her about Erik's disappearance, and it was Kennicott who silenced the woman…
-- Sinclair Lewis, Main Street

Etymology:
Catechize stems from the Greek word katēchízein meaning "to teach orally." It was first used in the sense of "to question" by Shakespeare in Othello.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I still think he should have stayed in his vehicle.

But, yes:

I’ve got certain information, all right? Certain things have come to light. And, you know, has it ever occurred to you, that, instead of, uh, you know, running around, uh, uh, blaming me, you know, given the nature of all this new shit, you know, I-I-I-I... this could be a-a-a-a lot more, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, complex, I mean, it’s not just, it might not be just such a simple... uh, you know?

Gloomy and 70 here, with drizzle off and on-

Florida is in the middle of
The latest media sensation-
An excuse to give Al Sharpton
A chance to catechize on vacation

In that state, high profile cases
Bring out birds of a feather-
Big Race baiters and agitators
Come to enjoy the lovely weather

And along came the Black Panthers
All racially biased and armed
As lawyers wait with bated breath
To see how many will be harmed

I loathe those cars.com commercials.

Yes, the Stooges movie looks stupid.

And maybe the worst: Michael Bay is remaking the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and making them aliens instead of mutants.

Have you noticed how many commercials for different companies use the same actors in the past months? The same woman is advertising fiber supplements who advertised insurance last month, the guy who advertised insurance is now a bride’s father on an investment commercial, and telling you how you should tell an MD to give you the same heart meds he takes on another commercial, and the same guy who advertises Cialis is advertising corn syrup, etc.

Are times really that hard in advertising? It is not like these spokespersons are believable when they are everywhere selling everything.

My favorite commercials are those that feature animals, though-at least they are original...

They’re all CGI. ;-)

I think that pcmatic.com lady got too uppity in the contract negotiations, so they replaced her with a younger “daughter” model.

Those PC Matic commercials make my teeth itch no matter who is in them-bady acted and dumb-both the women in them make the man look silly, too.

Do you think this is true among your lawyer associates?
I unfollow people in a NY minute when they say something that offends me, I don't care how interesting they were before that. What I get a kick out of is who Twitter suggests I might like to follow. They are wrong 99.99% of the time.
