Santorum’s May Myth
Dick Morris ^ | 4/4/2012 | Dick Morris

Posted on 04/05/2012 8:35:42 AM PDT by Signalman

Rick Santorum has now punted April and is saying that we need to wait until May for him to rack up significant totals of delegates. Fat chance.

After DC, Maryland, and Wisconsin, Romney has about 640 delegates. He will probably win New York (95 delegates), Del (17), Ct (28), and RI (19) raising his total to about 770. He’ll lose Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri but he’ll get his share raising his total to 800 delegates). He could, and probably will, win Pennsylvania giving him 870. (Santorum doesn’t have delegates in each part of his home state).

Then comes May, Rick’s favorite month. But Romney will probably win Maine (24), Indiana (46), and Oregon (28) giving him just shy of 1,000 delegates. He’ll probably lose Arkansas (36), and might lose Kentucky (45), Nebraska (35), North Carolina (45). He will however pick up some portion of their delegations in the proportional representation states. And he’ll likely lose the big May primary – Texas with 155 votes. But since Texas votes by Congressional District, he’ll win his share. Most likely, he will exit May with over 1,000 delegates and could approach 1,100.

Then, by June 6th, he will vault past the 1,144 he needs for the nomination by winning California, New Jersey, Utah, South Dakota, Washington State, Montana, and New Mexico.

Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul not only have no chance at winning a majority of the delegates, but they also have no chance of deadlocking the convention. The numbers don’t add up.

Let’s get real and get on with beating Obama.

No, it's not time for that. Best bet is for Romney to drop out now for the good of America. We don't want another used car salesman in charge. We already have one and he's no good. Another one won't help.

Dick knows very well that Romney is the one candidate who would have to run without the support and interest of the Republican party rank and file ~ just like Goldwater ~ and you can't win that way!

Romney is Obama’s Pale Twin Cousin. Even Soros is okay with a Romney administration which doesn’t bode well for liberty.

the toe queen needs to know that if mittens does not get the needed delegates by the last primary, it is a brokered convention....

....I am hoping for this.

Romney has won his races in liberal areas while telling conservatives that we’ll like him just fine when he’s the last man standing.

His arrogance matches that of his ideological brother, Obama.

” But since Texas votes by Congressional District, he’ll win his share. “

Reagan won all 100 districts against Ford in 1976.

You're right. But it sure looks like this is one of the few times where the toe sucker might be right.

I'll take a possibly trainable RINO with limited core values over an avowed America hating Marxist any day.

Amazing, 6 comments and not one is a response to what Morris is saying. All of them simply attack Morris and/or Mitt.

What? Has this place been over run by liberals? Attack the messenger and ignore the message? I thought that was how liberals behaved, not conservatives.

Only the 7th comment attempts to address the topic of the article. Yes, Signalman, Texas went for Reagan over Ford, but that was 35 years ago. Trust me, Texas is much more moderate than it was back then. Almost certainly Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and probably Houston will go Romney, so he will get his share of delegates. I don't believe Santorum can sweep Texas.

I think all the hostility in the above comments stems from fear that Dick Morris is spot on in his analysis and we are going to be stuck supporting Romney or learning just how bad an America-hating, Marxist/Stalinist, African American-muslim President can be.

Seems Newt doesn't agree with your prediction Dick.

Many people are simply mired in the first couple stages of grief. Denial and Anger will begin fading away and I'd predict most will have hit Acceptance by the May/June timeframe. No one here wanted Romney, but it is what it is. He won. Conservatives simply didn't put up a compelling candidate most of us could agree on. Some will hang on to increasingly implausible fantasies of Santorum winning, or brokered conventions, etc, but in the end the pain will pass and we will all mostly be on the same page again to work towards a Republican victory and Obama's defeat.

Personally, I don’t care if Romney gets the “magic” number. I think conservatives should REFUSE to accept his nomination and FORCE and OPEN convention. We should make it absolutely clear that Romney will NEVER be acceptable.

This just takes guts. A little revolution is healthy now and then.

So maybe the goal now can be to prevent Romney from getting the needed delegates. Santorum should drop off and endorse Gingrich and let Gingrich steal some of those states from Romney.

I won’t accept Romney until he hits the magic number. Until then, forget it.
