An astonished cat lover has been reunited with her beloved missing moggy - 16 years after it first disappeared.
Pet cat Poldi walked out of the family home in Munich, Germany, in 1996 and was never seen again.
Poldi's family desperately tried to find the missing cat but to no avail and after months of looking they believed they would never see him again.
But an incredible 16 years later Poldi was found 20 miles away living in a forest.
The hikers who discovered the poorly puss took him to a local animal welfare centre where he and and his owner were identified by a tattoo on his ear.
The Munich Tierschutzverein Animal Rescue Centre spokesman Eveline Kosenbach said Poldi is now back with his relieved owner Monika Moser.
She said: 'The cat was not feeling well - and obviously wanted to be found. He is now enjoying being looked after...

Geez. 16 years out in the forest and still survived and looks good. Those Germans really know how to build a cat.

You should see the tattoo a crackpot vet put one of my Ibizans while she was being spayed.
I expected the usual, small discrete AKC ID number and she came out with what looked like the preamble to the Constitution on her inner thigh.
I almost hit the floor.
He said he wanted to make it visible.
Well, it is...from the *moon*.

Wow, he looks so much like one of my babies, except that my girl is several years younger.
It’s lucky he was found, but sad that it took 16 years. He probably won’t be around much longer. The oldest cat I had lived to 19.

But at least he is home and can spend what time he has left in the loving embrace of the people that had him in the begining. :)=^..^=

Good thing he gets to spend his last days in comfort with those who love him. Here’s hoping he lives in good health to be 27.

Just like a cat...get tired of living on your own so you finally show up to be taken care of.
I know good and well that if my cats had opposable thumbs, they'd break out and be gone!

Not mine, he’d wake me up in the morning rattling around the kitchen flipping open every can of cat food he could get his paws on.
To: beaversmom
Heartwarming story, but I find it hard to believe that cat spent 16 years in the forest as a feral animal....and is still looking that good and is still here to purr about it.

Never expect gratitude from a Cat.
True, but when you get it, that makes it all the more rewarding. I left my kitty for two weeks to get married and go on a honeymoon; when I went to my mother's to pick up him up, he jumped into my arms (18 pounder) and started licking my face. He would also come out to greet me every day in good weather when he heard the valve ticking on my slant-six Dodge Dart down the street, sometimes jumping into the open window after I parked. A marvelous cat.

Mine are "the grass is greener on the other side" type of pets.
I dare say, they'd be back when all they could find to eat would be scaley lizards with no tails. They like the finer things in life!

A friend of mine told me a story just like that. Their beloved cat wandered off and was gone for months and months (not 16 years though!)
They figured he was gone for good.
One night they hear scratching on the door, there’s the cat!
He went right over to where his food dish used to be and just gave them a look like: what’s up with this no food dish?

I think he was someone else’s cat for those sixteen years and then got lost or went off sick when the people found him.
To: Rides_A_Red_Horse
Most likely this guy lived with humans somewhere and only recently went to the woods ... didn’t work out like he expected, so he found some humans and got the heck ‘out of the bushes’. Al Sharptoon been to Germany lately?
