I've been catalogging the chicanery of the GOP-E for a while now. Take a look at this:

Notice how high the percentage of conservative states are proportional? Notice how low the percentage of progressive states are winner take all? Of course, there's overlap. But the trend is obvious.
This whole thing was friggin rigged from the beginning, by the big wigs and power brokers, in order to get their big government republican darling into the nomination.
Here's the count I took of the 50 states:

Winner Take All Red - 4
Winner Take All Blue - 5

But you are correct in your headline. Romney will be the nominee. All the hyperventilating notwithstanding, that was a foregone conclusion months ago. Like it or not, there was, and is, simply no other viable candidate in the field.

The Tea Party gave the Republicans control of the House of clowns--uh--Representatives. However the Republicans decided that the Tea Party was too conservative and too partisan and really just too too hicksville. Really just a bunch of yokels. So they threw the Tea party aside for more suave urbane establishment candidates. Now they will be able to whine for another four (or forty) about how they could do oh so much better than the Democrats. And all the while the nation disintegrates.

going by stats .... Obama has screwed up just about everything else since he became President, so there’s a good chance he’ll blow the election, too - independents are waking up now.

Don't forget the cheating in Iowa and other states. Iowa still has 8 different precincts who “lost” all their paperwork. Romney has his church people working the precincts. I'm sure they will miraculously be found when Romney needs them.

Romney is not a viable candidate. You think he’s the best one only because of the media coverage and the money he’s had for smear ads against all the others. He will lose.

I thought Perry was the guy for a while. He looked good for three reasons but I can only remember two right now.
It's up to Republican voters at the ballot box in November. Are they going to withhold their vote from the nominee because he's not the uniformly most perfect candidate, and let Obama cruise on in to a second term, or will they vote FOR the Republican nominee, and also give him a Republican House and Senate, with lots more conservatives, so they can get some good things done?

I was alluding to the generally held opinion that any one who has endorsed Romney is part of the GOP Elites. I am having a hard time believing the alleged GOP-E’s got together in a smoke filled room and picked Romney. Some of the people in that list are newly elected, can hardly be called elites.
I pretty much hold that opinion.
Romney = Max Headroom.
I’ve held that opinion since at least 2007.
Unfortunately, independents will break for Obama once they get a good look at Romney. His military record parallels Clinton’s, his personality Al Gore’s, his hairstyle and flip-flopping John Kerry, and his policies as governor of Massachusetts inspired Obama.
Also, Romney is as unknown quantity, whereas at least you know what you’re getting with Obama. So it’s the old “better the devil you know, that the one you don’t.”
Hopefully Santorum can take PA, Texas and merge with Newt in order to force a brokered convention.
The problem with Romney is not that he’s far from the perfect candidate, but rather that as a candidate he’s not far from Obama.
Santorum has sometimes polled better against Obama. Romney? Get ready to lose unless we have $5-$6 gas. But even if he wins we lose.
When Newt & Perry both failed to get on the VA primary ballot it was clear there "were" dirty tricks coming from the GOPE.
I despise Mitt. But will vote for him is he wins the primary. If the race runs until the Convention, then don't count on Mitt. I have already told (not warned) the GOPE that if they force Mitt on us, this will be my last election as a GOP voter. Obozo must go, but GOPE must too.

He’s not in the ballpark. He is a pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun liberal. There is NO difference between him and obama. Why should conservatives allow the GOP to “use” us against to get they candidate, we don’t want, so they can get the candidate “they” want. I won’t play their game again. Romney lied, cheated, stole and destroyed good people and bought every vote he got. He can join acorn and buy from them.
The GOPE used me for far to long to get what they wanted, my vote. Telling me what they were going to do and then not doing any of it. Screw the GOP I will vote for the house and senate and not the presidency if it is Romney. If he is the candidate I see no difference in the two. You can tell me all you want that any repub is better than O’Dumby but we need action not more talk from the GOP. I have had it with being drug around to get worthless repubs elected. I use to vote solidly repub but not anymore. I am really really really looking third party. I am POed. I have to post this before I say something to get banned.

Please, try giving us a few reasons to vote for Willard. A perfect candidate is impossible, but just pick a major issue.
The only reason Romney would ever be in the White House would be because conservatives succumbed to the GOPe's urging to vote out of panic, desperation, and fear -- the territory of losers and victims.
The only way to help ourselves is to have the courage to defend the Republican party from liberalism, and the ONLY way to do that is to reject Romney and face down four more years of Obama; I hope enough people would vote third party (and NOT sit it out!!!) so that Obama squeaked by on only the tiniest plurality. A president in office where the majority of voters are on record as voting against him, is a weakened president. Clinton got only 42 percent of the vote, which emboldened the Republican Revolution. If Obama was re-elected with a plurality win of, say, 40 percent of the vote, Republicans and America would be better off than if Romney got in to surrender the Republican party wholesale to liberalism.
It is CERTAIN that Obama would be even more despised, embattled, and weak than he is now for the simple reason that most Americans think he's a crappy president. Chicken Littles squawk that we couldn't survive it, but theirs is the call of panic, desperation, and fear -- the mindset of victims and losers.
If liberalism is rejected in the GOP even if it means Obama, conservatism would grow stronger and we'd at least have a fighting chance against the real enemy, liberalism.
If, God forbid, Romney got in, there'd be no gamble: it would be 100 percent CERTAIN that liberalism would grow more powerful in both parties and a 100 percent chance that Republicans would become disarmed in fighting it.

True! “GOP Electorate” does not equal “Conservative Voter”. Unfortunately, the point of view of most Freepers and/or the Tea-Party base is (apparently) a small minority of the overall GOP electorate. Doubly unfortunate is that it appears the majority of the GOP electorate will readily vote for whoever the GOP-e/MSM tells them to vote for.
Open question to anyone who has any ideas: I highly doubt this election will turn out in in any satisfying way for the conservative base so, looking ahead to future election seasons, how do we turn the GOP electorate around in our favor? I haven’t a clue, but it must be done...

Yes. I am of the opinion that Obama has been the worst President in our lifetimes, worse than Carter, LBJ and Nixon combined. Obama’s mentor was Saul Alinsky, and it shows.

Having suffered four years of Obama’s extremist partisan hatred for all things conservative, his appointment of leftists to courts, his regulatory overreach, his attacks on family values (such as now attacking the DOMA law his DOJ should uphold), his over-spending, to the tune of $45 TRILLION in his 10 year budget, and adding $6 trillion to our debt with no end in sight to trillion dollar deficits, his anti-energy policies, his pro-abortion policies, and his terrible record on jobs, with the worst jobs record and worst economic record of a president in a long time, one thing is clear:
Even a sack of rotten potatoes would make a better president than Obama, and any Republican would be much better than that.
example: The Obama administration has cut off Texas’ women’s health program funding because the prolife Republicans in Texas had the audacity to defund planned parenthood out of it. This would not happen if Gingrich or Romney were President. Hundreds of differences like that.
If I understand what you're getting at and your numbers and my math are right, something like 86% of the red states are proportional and something like 76% of the blue states are proportional.
I guess that's statistically significant, but whether it makes a difference in real world terms is harder to say. Given better candidates such a difference might make a difference, but given who we have, we get what we get.
